Great clean environment, quality food and reasonably priced. Not a thing to complain about including the fast friendly service.

Went there last week with my boy friend at around 9:30pm and they still sat us and served us with them closing at 10pm. I ordered the special which was buffalo chicken on top of a fettucini alfredo and since I don't like spicy I asked them to put some BBQ sauce on the side instead. It was freeaking delicious! They went a little crazy with the amount of alfredo sauce but wow it was good! We also got the side salads and calamari and they were also superb!!!! I highly recommend this place! We make our annual trek to the mountains for deer season. This trip would not be complete without a beef on wick sandwich and REAL German Potatoe salad. The beef is unreal and the roll with salt and caraway seeds makes it perfect. Might make the 3 hour trip next month just to have a sandwich. read more

The Beef n Barrel consistently serves good food. The portions are generous and I look forward to their desserts. The cream puff is huge and should be shared. Beef on Weck is a regional specialty and this place has it down perfectly. Sliced beef, French dips, steaks, burgers...beef is where it's at! There is plenty of seating, but on Fridays & Saturdays, it gets packed so plan accordingly. There are few restaurants you can count on for a good (really good) meal and good service. I know many people who have had positive experiences unfortunately mine wasn't. My office placed a To Go order for lunch which we picked up. It was ready on time and we picked it up on time as we are only 3 minutes away. Most of the orders were warm which is to be expected with a carry out order but my cheeseburger wrap and fries were completely cold. Not one part of my order was warm. It was inedible. Unfortunately our lunch hour is only a half hour so there wasn't time to return or call and complain before back to work. read more

One of my absolute FAVORITE places to go in the WORLD, but definitely my favorite in Olean! My father is from Olean and I used to visit my grandmother there. Gratefully, my uncle is STILL there and knows the owners well. The beef on weck is my family's weakness! We ALL head over there when we are in town. The last time I went I brought a DOZEN sandwiches home as well! I just couldn't help myself and there were a lot of people that weren't with me that requested them as well! If it wasn't a 7 hour drive, I'd go there all the time! Wegman's makes this sandwich - which isn't even in the same class. If you are in Olean, I highly recommend it. read more

This is a great place if you love Beef. The layout inside is very cool with multiple beef stations. I had a strip steak that was cooked perfectly, and came with a choice of potatoes, salad & dinner roll. I sat @ the bar and the bartender was great, answered all questions and made good small talk with everybody sitting there as well. My only knock on this experience was the lack of veggies as a side choice. The potatoes I ordered were great, however I try to stay away from them in my diet and would have like a green veggie choice. Good times. read more

I usually order off the specials menu, but the roast beef dinner on the regular menu is my standby. I always enjoy it and always have leftovers. Don't miss the potato skins. We ate here and our beef was served cold, the ribs were so chewy that my daughter couldn't eat them. The ranch dressing for our salads was a thick white flavorless paste. Our waitress didn't take our salad plates away before serving our meals and never returned for drink refills. Just plain terrible all the way around. read more

Was there for lunch recently. First of all they have the best mozzarella sticks I've had in the area. The outside crunches and has a nice flavor while the cheese is perfectly melted. The marinara sauce is top notch. The cheeseburger was fine. The bun was great, soft and buttery, but the burger was sort of bland and over cooked, and too small for the bun. The onions were very strong and overpowered the burger, I couldn't eat them. I had to set them aside at the end of the table. They need to buy sweet onions for the burgers. The burger was nothing to bet excited about. The french fries were stale and almost cold. Blah. The mud pie was fantastic. Get it. Wait staff is very friendly. read more

Not being local, this seemed like someplace ya just have to try if you're in Olean. It was totally okay but nothing particular stands out to write home about, although this could just be because of personal tastes. Had a special of the day and a beef on wick. The meat was very good but the breads and overall flavor were just okay. Pretty enough place as far as ambiance. Felt a little on the pricier side for what we got though and service was pretty straightforward and matter of fact. Reading the reviews maybe I just expected more. read more

The best place to eat in Olean within a 100 mile radius!!!!!! Beef on Weck is piled high with beef sliced right in front of you. Once you try the potato skins with their secret dressing they make right there and have a huge salad, you will almost be too stuffed when then sandwich or meal you ordered comes out! Prices are good and its a place where you can dress nice or walk in with blue jeans. We have taken the kids there numerous times and the staff members are great to them. The decor is really beautiful too, country-ish but cozy at the same time! Even the bathrooms are pretty, my daughter said so! I dream of beef now thanks to them!!!! read more

The last time I ate at this restaurant was in 2006 and I haven't been back since. Allow me to explain why... My mother one night while we were there ordered the roast beef dinner with a baked sweet potato on the side. The menu said "thick sliced roast beef" and it looked like the carver took the left-over shavings from off the cutting board, put them on a plate and covered them with gravy. Then, the sweet potato that was brought out looked like it withered on the plate. It was disgusting! I calmly asked to speak to the manager (who conveniently never told us his name) and informed him of the situation. He said he would bring out another potato or my mother could order something else. Well, they brought out two smaller potatoes and both of them looked worse than the first one. I kindly told the waitress those wouldn't work and when she asked my mother if she wanted to order something else, my mother said, "No." Part of this was because my mother had already eaten some of our appetizer (we all shared) and her side salad and was not hungry anymore (she'd planned on taking the rest of her dinner home). Another part was because she was so disgusted by what they tried to give her. When the waitress was walking back toward the kitchen, the manager was standing in the doorway and I clearly heard him say, "Now what's the matter with them?" My boyfriend and I ate our meals and when the check came, I noticed I was still charged for my mother's meal, which was untouched except for her side salad, which was brought out separately. I explained the situation to the cashier and very politely said that I was more than willing to pay for her salad and drink, but nothing else on her meal because she did not touch it. Her meal came to $10.95 before tax and tip. The cashier spoke to the manager and he came back to me and stated that my complaint was "invalid" and there was "nothing wrong" with the potatoes that were brought out to us. To avoid a scene, I paid the full price for the meal which came to $47.00 total and left the waitress a very generous $5 tip. I had no problem with her because she was very attentive and polite. I did, however, have a problem with the manager. He was rude and unaccommodating. I felt we could have received better service from him. Proceed with caution if you decide to dine here. read more

I don't know why people are only giving 4 stars and the comments are all positive except the decor. I thought the decor was a touch dated, but nothing horrible. The staff give an appearance of a very fancy restaurant where you'd expect the plates to be $20 and up. My service was top notch, friendly, timely, informative. I had the roast beef with gravy and my date had a steak salad. Both were probably the best we'd ever had anywhere. Roast beef was so tinder, I didn't know it could even be cooked like that. The salad was amazing too, with a very nice blend of lettuce varieties (mix of caesar and house). Prices are very reasonable, almost cheap. read more

Visiting Allegheny State Park in southwest New York state and decided to overnight in Olean. Driving down Union Street, happened to see storefront sign for Beef'n'Barrel, and decided to give it a try. Ten minute wait on a Friday night wasn't unreasonable, and service was attentive without being obtrusive. We ordered on 8 oz sirloin with sauteed mushrooms, and the prime rib special. Was told the prime rib ran 12 oz, but what was delivered was well over a pound, wonderfully lean and delicious. Out of towner, first time dining here. On the positive side, the ambience and decor were pleasant, and staff was prompt and friendly. The menu had some really good looking high carb options. The mixed drinks looked interesting and the breads are all made onsite. I ordered a New York Strip steak hoping that this place having the name BEEF in its name would mean my steak would be great. Not so much. It wasn't bad and it was cooked properly, it just really wasn't any better than a sirloin I could've paid a lot less for at Applebee's. If I am getting a steak at almost $20 for 8oz, I expect it to be better than a cheaper cut from a chain restaurant. Let me start by saying that i have been to Beef & Barrel everytime i am in town, but my final time was tonight. Tonight when I went there I could not get seated. They where not full, but we were ignored. Stood at the front door for 5 min and no one would acknowlege i was standing there. I have been there and ate the beef & wick and they are good, but that will be my last time. Also, i was in there to set up a buy of beef on wick for an activity i was having for 40 people. The beef is delicious. I love the beef on weck! The server was a little curt and not very friendly.

Easily the worst steak experience I've ever had. My wife ordered a filet M/R, first steak came out seared well but very dry looking, cut into the steak and NO JUICE/BLOOD meat was grey, very dry was cooked past Well done. Sent first steak back and the second one came out 16 minutes later, same sear and dry look. Cut into steak and it was raw, not rare as that would require blood and juice to flow out, but raw. I have never witnessed a rare steak not bleed, I pushed it with my thumb, nothing came out no blood no juice, NOTHING! These steaks had been sitting grill top for some time to get that dry. I had open face roast beef with gravy.....it was marginal at best, have had equal or better at a greasy diner for half the cost. We both ordered Orange creamsicles as our drink, tasted like they literally melted one off the stick into our glass with no alcohol at all.
