Had AJ's Subs, Pizza & Grill delivered to my hotel in Olean. I ordered 3 plain pizzas and a small chef salad, all for just over $50. The pizzas? Honestly great. Hot, cheesy, classic--and for the price? Can't beat it. But that "chef salad"? Oh. My. God. What I received looked like something you'd win as a consolation prize at a school raffle. I paid $8 for a plastic container of lettuce, one slice of tomato, a green pepper ring, and like... three croutons trying to hold it all together. No meat. No cheese. No egg. Not even a shred of effort. I've seen more toppings on a flight snack. This wasn't a salad made by a chef--it was a salad that called in sick. It looked like it was assembled by someone who whispered, "Good enough," and walked away. AJ's--your food is good. Your pizza? A hit. Your prices? More than fair. But that salad? That salad needs to be exorcised from the menu. For $8, I expected at least a garnish of dignity. That container of sadness was delivered to my hotel and somehow still found a way to disrespect me. The service is good but the food is overcooked and portions are small for the price. The sugar in the pizza sauce is the only thing I taste. Much better pizza elsewhere. read more

What happened to the beloved steak subs from AJ's?!? I hadn't been into Olean for a few years and wanted to treat my companions to something unique to the area. What a disappointment... The rolls were way too big for the sandwich, and stale to start - even after sitting wrapped up, they never softened up. The meat had zero flavor - what ever became of grilling the shrooms and onions with the steak? Same goes for the sub oil - seemed to be only oil and vinegar. I could have gotten this at Subway for half the cost. If I ever get up here again we will stick with The Beef and Barrel. read more

While visiting Olean, I asked some of the locals for a recommendation for a good sub sandwich shop. All of them recommended AJ, and they hit it spot on. They have an extensive menu, but what I wanted wasn't on it. I asked if they could make a sausage parm sub, and they said sure! It came out hot, and a crispy fresh roll, and with a nice portion of potato chips on the side. I'm sure I will be back to this wonderful local restaurant sometime in the very near future. When the concept of fine dining is considered, what comes to mind is luxury. Extensive wine lists, servers dressed in button up shirts, and folded cloth napkins at every seat. To me though, it's something entirely different. It's just what it sounds like: dining that is fine. It's a spot where you can sit down, take a load off, and enjoy a warm plate of food with a cold beverage. It can be anywhere really. Tonight, however, it was AJ's Subs of Olean, NY. Simply put, this place was incredible. There was no one element that gave it this status, but instead, the combination of delicious food, stellar service, and its comforting and simplistic feel. We searched for a little bit to find food around here, and nearly moved on to the next area down. In retrospect though, I'm so glad we didn't. The burger was warm and rich, the fries were crispy and filling, and the staff was welcoming and personable. Whether you've spent the day on the road, just gotten off a long shift at work, or perhaps are just looking for something new, then AJ's is the right spot. We stopped in and were taken with their extensive menu! I decided on the pizza sub, lots of provolone, pepperoni, mushrooms and a sauce that was excellent. My wife had one the six steak sub combos. Great steak, cheese, lettuce, banana peppers, both dressings, a side order of deep fried mushrooms with blue cheese. Great meal. Very friendly and helpful staff, all observing Covid standards. Just was in the area staying at a nearby hotel and went here for a sub sandwich. The staff was friendly and nice towards me being out of state. The sub was made fresh and correctly for me since I am very picky eater. While waiting for my sub, I was impressed with the way the staff interacted and made everything fresh. There was alot of delivery and pick up orders. I was also impressed with the menu options to the public. I would recommend this place to anyone that is in the area. It is NOT a subway. Just when you thought there was no place to have a good lunch while visiting St. Bonaventure university!! Then you try A & J's. Try the sweet potato fries, chicken sandwich or tuna melt. They love to use cheese!!! Enjoy anytime. A little pricey but quality food. read more

Burgers are awesome! Fries are mediocre. If they amped up the fries, it would be a great combo because the hamburgers are juicy and the buns crisp, and we get provolone cheese and it's no problem. They deliver very quickly! read more

Had hoped for a better product than previous owners in the sub department. I will qualify this as we did not try anything else. Ordered 2 steak subs and one grilled chicken. Results were "very disappointing "to say the least. The steak subs had a MAXIMUM" of 2oz of meat as did the grilled chicken. The rolls need to be totally "replaced" as they were totally dry ( aridly dry) and crumbly. I really wish the new owners good luck but please visit a few other sub shops in the surrounding areas, ie Jamestown, East Aurora,Eville and establish a baseline for a quality product read more

Absolutely awful food, horrible meatball sub and what they called a quesadilla which after 1 bite was one of the worst things I have ever eaten. Although I have lived in the area 20+ years, the subs at A & J's are a RARE (but delicious) treat. Over the years the prices have become outrageous! I can purchase a sub from Wegman's grocery (yes! We called to place an order and apparently we didn't order fast enough because the woman on the phone (Stephanie) yelled at me that I needed to hurry up and make up my mind because she was busy. I arrived in Olean as the sun set on a Sunday, and much to my dismay, there were not many food places near the downtown business district, and even less that were open. A&J's was open, so I decided to try to order a couple of slices of pizza for a quick dinner. Unfortunately, they don't serve pizza by the slice, so I ordered a bambino, which is a small personal pizza. The pizza was OK, and certainly pricy considering the smallish size of the pizza. Ordered Meditranean steak sub, was very little steak, more onions and peppers than anything. Chicken tender wrap that I requested tomatoes on did not have them, it was more cheese than anything and that is all you tasted. Very disappointing and VERY expensive for the quality of food. read more

Walked in to sad customer service. No eye contact and then had to cancle my order because after 10 minutes the cook decides to put a burger on the grill. 6 senior's are the only people in here and 4 people are working with no other orders in the window. I came alone and a burger with fries was over $11.00. Guess that is one place that will never cook me a Sysco Foods ground burger. read more
