When the concept of fine dining is considered, what comes to mind is luxury. Extensive wine lists, servers dressed in button up shirts, and folded cloth napkins at every seat. To me though, it's something entirely different. It's just what it sounds like: dining that is fine. It's a spot where you can sit down, take a load off, and enjoy a warm plate of food with a cold beverage. It can be anywhere really. Tonight, however, it was AJ's Subs of Olean, NY. Simply put, this place was incredible. There was no one element that gave it this status, but instead, the combination of delicious food, stellar service, and its comforting and simplistic feel. We searched for a little bit to find food around here, and nearly moved on to the next area down. In retrospect though, I'm so glad we didn't. The burger was warm and rich, the fries were crispy and filling, and the staff was welcoming and personable. Whether you've spent the day on the road, just gotten off a long shift at work, or perhaps are just looking for something new, then AJ's is the right spot. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. read more

Had AJ's Subs, Pizza & Grill delivered to my hotel in Olean. I ordered 3 plain pizzas and a small chef salad, all for just over $50. The pizzas? Honestly great. Hot, cheesy, classic--and for the price? Can't beat it. But that "chef salad"? Oh. My. God. What I received looked like something you'd win as a consolation prize at a school raffle. I paid $8 for a plastic container of lettuce, one slice of tomato, a green pepper ring, and like... three croutons trying to hold it all together. No meat. No cheese. No egg. Not even a shred of effort. I've seen more toppings on a flight snack. This wasn't a salad made by a chef--it was a salad that called in sick. It looked like it was assembled by someone who whispered, "Good enough," and walked away. AJ's--your food is good. Your pizza? A hit. Your prices? More than fair. But that salad? That salad needs to be exorcised from the menu. For $8, I expected at least a garnish of dignity. That container of sadness was delivered to my hotel and somehow still found a way to disrespect me. Rest in peace to my $8--you were tossed, not dressed. read more

AJ's Subs, Pizza And Grill - I Paid $8 for a Garnish - Pizza Near Me - Olean, New York

The service is good but the food is overcooked and portions are small for the price. The sugar in the pizza sauce is the only thing I taste. Much better pizza elsewhere. read more

AJS is one of the most professional ran businesses I've ever been in. And very clean and the food is amazingly delicious.

Turkey subs used to be one of the best around. Prices went up but it seems like the quality went down. Still good don't get me wrong but not like they used to be. read more

Amazing subs! Good pizza, when you order extra cheese and pepperoni you actually get it! Nice thick creamy ranch. Amazing ham and cheese calzone. Really fast friendly delivery and staff, Derek was great. read more

This place has definitely fallen victim to shrinkflation. Sad. Ordered a large fish fry and received the guppy version. Disappointing to say the least. Guess I'll have to find a new place. read more

What happened to the beloved steak subs from AJ's?!? I hadn't been into Olean for a few years and wanted to treat my companions to something unique to the area. What a disappointment... The rolls were way too big for the sandwich, and stale to start - even after sitting wrapped up, they never softened up. The meat had zero flavor - what ever became of grilling the shrooms and onions with the steak? Same goes for the sub oil - seemed to be only oil and vinegar. I could have gotten this at Subway for half the cost. If I ever get up here again we will stick with The Beef and Barrel. read more

Had a great recent experience here while on business. Order a chicken parm sub with all the fixings. They also have pizza, calzones and root beer floats! I've got to come back to grab a milkshake next time. read more

While visiting Olean, I asked some of the locals for a recommendation for a good sub sandwich shop. All of them recommended AJ, and they hit it spot on. They have an extensive menu, but what I wanted wasn't on it. I asked if they could make a sausage parm sub, and they said sure! It came out hot, and a crispy fresh roll, and with a nice portion of potato chips on the side. I'm sure I will be back to this wonderful local restaurant sometime in the very near future. Based on my one experience, I highly recommend this place. read more

The food is amazing!! My family's go-to dinner choice for subs and pizza!! I have never had problems with them and they have ice-cream!! Talk about a bonus! They also have delicious desserts. read more

This place was really good! Everyone was very nice and helpful. I will definitely be coming back to have another sub :) read more

We stopped in and were taken with their extensive menu! I decided on the pizza sub, lots of provolone, pepperoni, mushrooms and a sauce that was excellent. My wife had one the six steak sub combos. Great steak, cheese, lettuce, banana peppers, both dressings, a side order of deep fried mushrooms with blue cheese. Great meal. Very friendly and helpful staff, all observing Covid standards. A definite return trip will be planned. read more

.......worst ever ...roll was hard as a rock....like crackers.....never...never again waste of $$$$$$$$$$ read more

Just when you thought there was no place to have a good lunch while visiting St. Bonaventure university!! Then you try A & J's. Try the sweet potato fries, chicken sandwich or tuna melt. They love to use cheese!!! Enjoy anytime. A little pricey but quality food. read more

Just was in the area staying at a nearby hotel and went here for a sub sandwich. The staff was friendly and nice towards me being out of state. The sub was made fresh and correctly for me since I am very picky eater. While waiting for my sub, I was impressed with the way the staff interacted and made everything fresh. There was alot of delivery and pick up orders. I was also impressed with the menu options to the public. I would recommend this place to anyone that is in the area. It is NOT a subway. I applaud the staff and management to this establisment. WELL DONE!! read more

I love this place. Deluxe BLT is my favorite. They have quite a large menu to pick from. I'm hungry right now. Closed on Monday, darn it.

Burgers are awesome! Fries are mediocre. If they amped up the fries, it would be a great combo because the hamburgers are juicy and the buns crisp, and we get provolone cheese and it's no problem. They deliver very quickly! read more

Had hoped for a better product than previous owners in the sub department. I will qualify this as we did not try anything else. Ordered 2 steak subs and one grilled chicken. Results were "very disappointing "to say the least. The steak subs had a MAXIMUM" of 2oz of meat as did the grilled chicken. The rolls need to be totally "replaced" as they were totally dry ( aridly dry) and crumbly. I really wish the new owners good luck but please visit a few other sub shops in the surrounding areas, ie Jamestown, East Aurora,Eville and establish a baseline for a quality product read more

Love to eat at this nice local place. Really good sandwiches and amazing brownies. Folks are always nice there. They get pretty busy around lunch time and can run a little slow because of it. It it's usually a reasonable wait. read more

Although I have lived in the area 20+ years, the subs at A & J's are a RARE (but delicious) treat. Over the years the prices have become outrageous! I can purchase a sub from Wegman's grocery (yes! Wegman's) on the way home from work at a fraction of the price and it is every bit as delicious. (fresh baked rolls also) Don't get me wrong......the subs are yummy, but PRICEY! read more

Absolutely awful food, horrible meatball sub and what they called a quesadilla which after 1 bite was one of the worst things I have ever eaten. Who ever came up with that dish has never eaten at a real restaurant. Junk and at 4 am when I was vomiting up AJ's meatball sub I wasn't shocked. read more

Best subs in Olean, hands down. And great service from the staff there. Haven't tried the pizza there because I like the subs too much to get anything else. A good problem to have. read more

The food is great. However, the customer service is GARBAGE. We called to place an order and apparently we didn't order fast enough because the woman on the phone (Stephanie) yelled at me that I needed to hurry up and make up my mind because she was busy. I drove down there right away and there were 3 of them at the counter standing around with no customers. We had called as soon as they opened. I called back to speak to a manager twice. Both times was told I would be called back. No word yet. This was 2 weeks ago. read more

Passed through here for a quick lunch. I only spent about 8 dollars for lunch which isn't so bad. Very friendly staff, clean place, and they have coloring menus for kids or bored adults. If I ever pass through Olean, NY, again, I will be sure to come back. read more

I arrived in Olean as the sun set on a Sunday, and much to my dismay, there were not many food places near the downtown business district, and even less that were open. A&J's was open, so I decided to try to order a couple of slices of pizza for a quick dinner. Unfortunately, they don't serve pizza by the slice, so I ordered a bambino, which is a small personal pizza. The pizza was OK, and certainly pricy considering the smallish size of the pizza. They also have subs, which I would try if I lived in the area, but alas, I do not, so my review is based squarely on the pizza I had. read more

Hav had subs at AJs. Best in town. Had meat lovers pizza today. GREAT. Lots of many meats just enough cheese and sauce is spicy tastey not just a blaa sauce. Would give 5star if fresh dough crust. But it is tender chewy and very good crust read more

Having graduated from Bona's in 1994, the place for wings was the now-gone S&G. A&J's is a VERY worthy successor. Crispy on the outside, plump and juicy inside. Absolutely perfect and delicious! read more

Their subs are delicious but they never make the subs like I ask them too. They are pricey and the subs are worth it once in awhile, but there are definitely better subs for a cheaper price in town. read more

Ordered Meditranean steak sub, was very little steak, more onions and peppers than anything. Chicken tender wrap that I requested tomatoes on did not have them, it was more cheese than anything and that is all you tasted. Very disappointing and VERY expensive for the quality of food. read more

Great cheese subs and pitas. Two of the few good menu items for vegetarians anywhere in Olean.

A&J got me through college. Great food, great service. Each time I am back in town I make sure to save room for A&J!

Some food is good but never ever order a fish fry there. It was terrible and their large was smaller then others small. Over cooked old oil. Avoid. read more

Over priced and forgettable. I've never been there before so I decided to go for lunch. I ordered a half BLT sub, a small order of fries and a can of soda which came to around $15.00. Not to mention the sub only had two strips of bacon. Depressing read more

Used to be good years ago. So passing through I figured what the heck, live the past. Ordered a tuna sub. Overpriced. However if you yearn for fish flavored mayonnaise, you can't go wrong! read more

Never ate there but my firm did work for this company and extended credit terms, they loved the work and vanished when time came to pay. This puts them solidly in the GBF file. (great big flakes) Might make a good meatball, but don't extend credit terms to them at all costs! read more

Walked in to sad customer service. No eye contact and then had to cancle my order because after 10 minutes the cook decides to put a burger on the grill. 6 senior's are the only people in here and 4 people are working with no other orders in the window. I came alone and a burger with fries was over $11.00. Guess that is one place that will never cook me a Sysco Foods ground burger. read more
