PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE GIVING THIS BUSINESS YOUR MONEY!…read more This business was incredibly unprofessional, and the way they treated someone who was grieving the loss of her father and simply wanted to do something nice for herself is deeply disturbing. She hired them to remodel her home and trusted them to handle what should have been a straightforward renovation. Instead, within a short period of time, the paint in her bathroom began chipping, the sink cracked, and other things stopped working properly. Even more concerning was how they handled her requests during the project. She asked for completely standard things--a particular faucet, an appropriate sink size, and a grab bar for the shower. They would not accommodate any of her requests. She was actually told they couldn't get her a grab bar for her shower. A grab bar. Home Depot has an entire selection of them. How can a company that specializes in home design and remodeling claim they can't accommodate such basic requests?? Then there is the pricing. Items that can be purchased for a fraction of the cost were marked up dramatically--for example, a showerhead costing around $100 being charged at $750. There is nothing wrong with a business making a profit, but customers deserve transparency and reasonable value for what they're paying. And then things got even worse. The company owner's personal belongings were dumped into the client's dumpster, leaving the client unable to use it for her own renovation waste. But perhaps the most disturbing part of the entire experience was how she was treated when she finally confronted them about it. She was told: "It was easy to take advantage of you." Read that again. "It was easy to take advantage of you." This says everything you need to know about how this company views its customers. People trust contractors and designers with their homes, their money, and sometimes in their most vulnerable moments. They deserve honesty, professionalism, respect, and quality workmanship--not to be treated as an opportunity to make an excessive profit because someone is trusting or going through a difficult time. Please know exactly who you're trusting with your home and your hard-earned money! No one should be made to feel like they were an easy target. People deserve better than this!

They were very easy to work with, communicated well and gave tremendous help and support through every phase of the project. I had no idea what my "style" was, but they were able to figure it out. We got several bids and ultimately went with North Shore Kitchen & Bath because (1) their bid was competitive with everyone else who bid, (2) we had them recommended by neighbors, (3) we loved the convenience of the turn-key (start-to-finish) service with a full showroom and (4) the fact that we picked all materials out before signing a full contract meant we were able to have a much more accurate idea of the actual final cost going into the remodel. They met with us several times and we fine-tuned the contract and our product choices so that all our questions and decisions were down in writing. They began the work on the day specified and we were given a 6-8 week timeline; the job was finished in 6 weeks, 3 days. We had a few change orders along the way due to some unexpected structural issues and some minor additions we made along the way but the change order costs were all signed off on by us before the work and all reasonable give the additional scope of work. Throughout the entire process, Rick, Tom and the whole team were honest and transparent. Not only was their work impeccable, but they addressed all my concerns as they cropped up and they kept the rest of my house as clean as possible (which was impressive considering they were renovating and repairing water damage on all three levels of our home). The whole team was also extremely friendly, and were very gracious to my two kids who asked them a million questions about the process and also gave attention to my people-loving dog. I also want to give a special shout-out to our designer, Beth. She was very good at understanding what we were going for in our design, was able to merge my husband's and my differing viewpoints on items and also helped steer us towards options that we didn't consider in the beginning, but were of course, ultimately the correct choice. We would recommend Rick, Tom and the whole North Shore Kitchen & Bath team in a heartbeat. We have another 1960s original bathroom to redo in the future and as soon as we have the funds saved up, we know who to call!

North Shore Kitchen & Bath completed my kitchen project recently. It was not a complete kitchen…read moreremodel - I had my walls/cabinets painted, replaced the countertop/sink, and added a backsplash. I am mostly happy with the overall result of the project, and the cost was more affordable than other businesses with whom I discussed the project. However, I will say the process to get to the final result could have been much smoother. NSKB's communication was lacking. From the beginning of the process when I was working with the designer to pick out finishes, I would have to reach out myself whenever I wanted an update because I would go weeks (sometimes over a month) without getting any information. When I did reach out, I usually had to follow up multiple times before I finally got an email back. I was told a start date for my project, and then when I reached out with a question later the designer mentioned a different date. The change had not been run by me or communicated to me. Had I not reached out myself, I wouldn't have known until they showed up that morning to start. The painters had to come back multiple times for touch ups after finishing the initial job. They got paint on my under-cabinet lighting and hardware because they didn't tape around or remove them; they just painted around things. Paint was spilled on my floors and the NSKB team was able to clean it up a majority of the way, but there is a permanent spot that is darker than the rest of my floor. The team also lost two pieces from hinges and were not able to hang the last cabinet door. It took NSKB almost 2 months to come back and find a solution after I followed up with them multiple times. Overall, the project that was supposed to be completed in early December ended up taking until the end of January.

I am leaving this review to caution anyone from working with JB Custom. I got a quote and was…read moreassured by the person who came out to my house that they would be respectful of my budget and would come up with a quote based on what services I needed prioritized. We agreed on a plan and budget, which included ripping up carpet and laying down LVP flooring, along with drywall repair, paint and installing fans in the bathrooms and repairing any drywall that was damaged as a result of that installation. Before the project started, I asked if the baseboards would need to be removed and was told no. During the process of ripping up the carpet, they did in fact have to remove the baseboards, which was not discussed with me, and I was told they would do their best to keep that extra expense "at cost" and "as close to our original quote as possible." Also, hardwood floors were discovered. I had a conversation with them about what it would mean to refinish the hardwood floors instead of laying LVP and I was told it would save me money. They sent me a "change order" for this, which was roughly $1000 less than my final balance due, so it seemed I was saving $1000. It was an ADDITIONAL 5k. This was not clarified for me until after that part of the project was finished. The entire scope of my project was not complete, because I had to ask them to stop working on the house due to already exceeding my budget, repeated delays, confusion about whether they were hiring an electrician for part of the project, and unfinished work. While I was waiting for clarification on the additional 5K charge, the owner reached out to me to have a conversation about the project - he left a voicemail which I returned. He never tried to call me again. After several conversations with JB, I was told they would refund the cost of the baseboard (their mistake) but they did not offer to make any other adjustments to my total due for work that was completed. I can only come to the conclusion that I was deliberately misled. I agreed to hire them because I wanted to get all of my projects completed at once to save time. I am left with unfinished work that exceeded my budget by a few thousand dollars, and at square one with my bathroom fans and and other finishing work that needs to be done.

Our previous contractor did not seal the…read morefloors properly and the top coat peeled off, dirty would get inside the parts that were flaking off, and it caused heavy staining. The epoxy on the cove base also started chipping off. After meeting with about 8 different contractors, we found Miles to be the most knowledgable and careful about our floors. One contractor said he and his one employee could do all 10 of our rooms in one week. Miles on the other hand said he would only be able to do 2 rooms in one week. We really liked this approach because we would rather have the floors done correctly than hastily done. Miles recommended a mortar cove rather than using speed cove. It is more difficult to apply but more robust. He was the only contractor who recommended the mortar cove and it gives the floor a nice seamless look. Four of the epoxy companies we met with wouldn't even give us a quote because they were afraid they wouldn't be able to offer a watertight seal and because the square footage was too small. As a float spa, we hose down the floor all day long. Dornbrook's estimate was very reasonable, we got another estimate from a contractor that was twice as much. Abi handles all the emails for Dornbrook and she replies within minutes sometimes even on weekends when we have last minute questions. We also liked that Miles told us about a client where there was a small blemish on the floor and the client asked them to fix it but they had to redo the entire floor to fix the one blemish. Not a lot of contractors would admit to something like that with a prospective client but in the epoxy industry, there are a lot of things that can happen- such as too much moisture/outgassing in the concrete. Miles and his staff were on the job site every day. The previous company I used had hired some college kids to help with the floors. I hope my mistakes will save you the headache of going with the wrong contractor. I've already scheduled for May to have them do the rest of my rooms. I would recommend securing your slot early because they can be booked up several months in advance. If you would like to take a look at our floors, our spa is open to the public. Feel free to call Float Oasis in Brookfield to schedule a time 262-317-9100. The pictures below show the before pics with the top coat peeling and staining. Then the work in progress as they grind the floor and do the mortar cove, and finally the finished product.
