My experience with this company has been like most of these reviews. I tried to break my lease as soon as possible, because something wasn't/isn't right with these people. I wouldn't be surprised if they suddenly changed their name just to continue the scam. Either these people lack a moral compass or they are only out to help a certain "type" of client. I would definitely not recommend this place unless you'd like random infestations, and leakages as were listed before, oh and a total lack of accountability on behalf of their entire staff. No sorrys were even granted. Total lack of class. And these things happened in a 2 month time period. I wouldn't give them any stars. Any money. read more

I moved into my apartment at 6021 N Winthrop.in Nov. 2011 and I liked the apartment spacing. The security and quietness in my building is comforting. The building manager and staff is efficient and respectful to me and keep the building in excellent condition. .Becovic has upgraded the building several times since I have been here. The addition of the full exercise gym in the building is a great resource for those of us who make excuses for going to the gym ,I really enjoy living here and very comfortable to say I live here. Been in my apartment for 2 years and renewed for a third. I like how the company invests in the quality of my building by adding a workout room, and may be adding a bike room, as well. I like how they select tenants that are responsible and respectful of others. I also like how responsive they are to my questions and needs. I also feel good about the cost of rent for the quality apartment that I have been occupying. read more

UPDATE TO DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY So this is an update on Becovic Management. I rented this apartment in June of 2013. Since then, this apartment has flooded a total of 4 times. I was assured that the issue was fixed the last three times. The fourth time I just about had enough. I spoke to Kevin, the manager, expressed my dissatisfaction and the health concerns regarding the floods via email which he states he did not receive. The apartment flooded a total of four times and we are still in January 2014. What do you think is going to happen when we have another snow storm or when the rainy season starts. At this point I wanted out of the lease. Can you believe that he wanted to rent the apartment to someone with all these issues. This is flooding we are talking about. The structural integrity somehow is compromised. The flooding happens in the living room and also there is water leakage in the bathroom. Then he wanted to hold me to the lease. This is an ethical concern. He started screaming. So obviously profits trumps my health. We agree on a move out date, February 15, 2014 since I already paid half the rent. Then he tells me to have the carpet steam cleaned. Ok. His company is going to do it, but why steam clean the carpet if the flooding issue is not resolved. Also, there is a horrible odor coming out of the carpet. I expressed that my credit should not be damaged as a result of all these issues. He could not promise that. Big concerns with the ethics of this company. read more

High prices, low quality buildings, fees EVERYWHERE. The staff will be rude to you and talk to you like you're an idiot. Your unit need repairs? Good luck trying to get a maintenance call in. The repair guy I had was nice enough, but the person taking repair requests could rarely be bothered to pass my information along. Save your money and avoid these people. read more

For the winter, I needed a garage space and was glad to find a single private garage on Kenmore across from my short term rental. Problems immediately began regarding non-residents and residents blocking the garage. that the management company would not correct. The latest incident occurred last night. Call the night manager, he just told me to have the car towed and rudely hung up. Calling back the manager, the call went to voice mail so I was unable to get the towing code. There are two problems. First, problem is the tenants that cause the problem. The second is the management company that has taken, 'treating the poor, poorly,' from a business model into an art form. read more

I'd like to preface my review with a question: How do the folks at Becovic Management Group manage to sleep soundly at night? My experience with BMG at 6012 N Kenmore is something out of a nightmare. Work orders were abysmal at best. During my entire lease, the bathroom light fixture had issues that I grew to deal with, my fridge was on the fritz and I lost hundreds of dollars of groceries until they finally replaced it instead of 'fixing' it. My AC unit was an absolute joke (which i can understand is a common issue), but I was told several times that it was 'fixed'. Finally after close to a month, I was deemed important enough to get a replacement AC unit, albeit a filthy run down unit that worked slightly better. No insulation or security of AC unit was ever installed, it was simply placed in the hole in the wall, inviting all kinds of insects into my unit 24/7. Building & Premises. For starters the hallways reek of urine. After about 4 months of asking them about it, I realized I need to accept my buzzer or intercom will never properly work. Fine. In the summer, thousands upon thousands of gnats gathered in the main hallways and stairwells to the point that you better keep your mouth shut and eyes squinted while moving throughout the building. This also was brought to their attention, and guess what... never resolved. Heat. Well... you'd be wise to own A LOT of blankets. Moving on... Laundry. Too often I'd come home from an exhausting day & find the washers are broken. This is understandable and not directly BMG's fault, but when months go by and the machines are still eating quarters after being aware of the issue... come on. Of course I was never reimbursed for my money lost, even if it was under $10 total. Don't hurt yourself, BMG, I'll just go to the local Laundromat. BEDBUGS. Having saved ALL correspondence via email, attempts WERE made to resolve my infestation problem. Unfortunately these attempts did not help even when closely following directions to allow the extermination process to succeed. After 2 failed extermination attempts, I had contacted my local Alderman's office for assistance. I was informed that not only should proper procedure take place (spraying ALL surrounding units, as well as problem unit), but if my issue isn't resolved within 14 days of notifying BMG formally, I can legally issue a 30-day notice of lease termination to BMG. I brought this information about proper extermination procedure to BMG's attention, and I was informed that since nobody else in the building had reported bugs to them, they WILL NOT spray the surrounding units. This information straight from the Alderman's office, was IGNORED, and I continued to show up to work with bites all over my arms and face, affecting my job to the point where if one was ever spotted in the store, I was informed I'd be let go. I followed the proper procedure, sending detailed notices and letters to BMG via USPS Certified Mail with signature confirmation, more attempts were made to remedy my situation (STILL not proper procedure) with no resolution. Once the deadline of my notice arrived, I still had a very obvious infestation, and sent the letter of termination notice to BMG, again with certified signature confirmation. It was after this that BMG had finally sprayed the entire building. I lost 90% of my possessions and was left with an empty wallet, unable to afford to move anywhere else in the city and was forced to move back home with my family. Guess what... BMG still has the audacity to charge me for the remainder of my lease AFTER termination, and has since referred me to a collection agency. Looks like we'll let an attorney take a look at all the evidence.... In general, my interaction with the staff of BMG was very rarely handled in a professional manner. Too often, I'd be on the receiving end of a snarky attitude and I'd be made to feel like an inconvenience to them. I'd get 'professional' correspondence from them via email (minus the embarrassingly horrendous errors in spelling and grammar), but never face-to-face or over the phone. I understand things break down, but sending incompetent maintenance guys down to 'fix' and prolong the repair process is a joke. Notice property manager Kevin's reply to reviewer Nikki's post below. "Any problems in regards to bugs or the general facilities we take seriously and have gone to great lengths to improve the overall quality of living in all our buildings. Treating our residents with respect and fair ethics are absolutely vital to what we do." In no way shape or form has BMG exercised this way of doing business to me. I have no motive to provide anything other than facts in this review. Becovic will put on the facade of professionalism and empathy, then bend you over and expect you to take it. As a tenant, you're nothing more than a number to them. If you rent from them save all correspondence and exercise your rights as tenants. read more

UPDATE 4/25/2016: I'm sorry to say that I, and many of my neighbors, are still unhappy with Becovic's management style. While we realize that it takes time to bring a building up to speed, and some changes have been made, some of the worst issues still remain. In my opinion, there are safety issues that should have been attended to long before anything else. 1) The back stairs are a safety hazard. They're crumbling and the steel that surrounds them sticks out, tripping people even as we try to be cautious. 2) The issue with nails in a board on the back gate to the alley (mentioned in my first post!) still exists. 2) Another issue mentioned in my original post has not changed-- Even though we got VERY little snow this year, it still was not shoveled properly, leaving ice covering the sidewalk surrounding the building, as well as around the dumpsters and the back gate to the alley. 3) The front gate buzzer was out of service for around 6 months, if not longer. That means tenants had to go outside to open the gate for visitors and deliveries. It's finally repaired, but we received no notice of this and the phone number for the gate has changed. 4) Management is not responsive to important issues, making headaches for tenants as we have to keep contacting them until we finally receive some kind of reasonable response. Or, more often, just a response! Not a reasonable one at all! The GOOD things are, the fire extinguishers are currently up-to-date and the building now has a dumpster for recycling. (Unfortunately, the building needs at LEAST one more dumpster for trash, as they are always overflowing. There are three businesses in this building who use those dumpsters, too! And the convenience store is constantly placing trash in the recycling dumpster.) When everything is said and done, the worst issues some of us have to deal with involve management, not the building itself. A good management company is very important when renting a space, so renters beware. ----- ORIGINAL POST: At Becovic's property on N. Malden, the fire extinguishers are out of date, the sidewalks weren't cleared after 20 inches of snow until two days later, and there is ice covering the back sidewalk to the alley (and to the dumpsters) right now. That same narrow byway is full of construction tools and bricks making the walk even more dangerous. The back door does not lock and random people enter through the broken gate door, especially at night. Currently, it's snow and ice causing back gate issues, but often, the gate is not closed completely and can be pushed open with no key. That gate is also boarded up and there are nails sticking through the board so someone can cut themselves. In addition, this building either needs more dumpsters for trash or more frequent trash pickup because there is a convenience store and a restaurant in this building, and they fill those bins up very quickly. Thanks for the "fitness equipment", Becovic. I don't need a treadmill in my apartment building; I need to be safe in and around my home. read more

Becovic is a large management company and they operate as such. I've had to be extremely persistent with requests about repairs or other things in the building in order for them to be attended to. Particularly, frustrations with the elevator going in and out of service and repairs inside my individual unit. They raised my rent $60 after the first year and I've spoken to others in my building living in the same units on the same floor as me who are paying less. The apartment is nice, conveniently located with amenities but the rent is becoming unaffordable. The constant construction is a nuisance and they do a sloppy job at covering dust and supplies strewn across the hallways. They also neglect to inform me when said construction was set to commence and to what level of disturbance I'd be experiencing. The employees of the buildings linger around the buildings daily but when asked questions or for help with these issues, they simply tell me to "call the office." In certain cases I've been extremely upset, paying $150 for an unenclosed parking space, to come home and unable to park because an employee has decided to take my spot. Like I said, nice building, I love my apartment and chose to renew because of it, as well as because the cost of moving in the short term would be more than the additional $60 each month, but I'm spending an inordinate amount on rent and cannot pay any more in the future. I feel they're scamming us by offering different prices to every resident, cheaper for those who've been here longer. read more

I had an excellent experience with Becovic Management. I went in for a showing for a small 1 bed and my agent (Elise) was extremely attentive and wanting to show me more Becovic properties that she thought would better suit my needs. She ended up showing me four more apartments; all of which were beautiful and clean. She offered to put in requests for upgrades (something that had never been offered to me during a showing at other places) to enhance the apartment. I trusted Elise and ended up signing to a place that I hadn't even seen just because I knew that Becovic was a legitimate company with beautiful apartments. I'm very, very satisfied with this company and know that I've rented an amazing unit for a very reasonable price! read more

Management is incompetent and non-responsive. I would advise anyone to look elsewhere than deal with Becovic. Within the past 6 months of my lease, I had a broken toilet with stagnant water for 2 days that Becovic failed to fix (mind you the city states by law that a landlord fix plumbing/sewage no later than one day). Unless you start threatening them with city by laws you aren't going to get anywhere. read more

Kevin has been very helpful in resolving any problem I have encountered. Although I thought the staff hadn't been willing to help me out with the problems I had to deal with they handled any I have brought up to them. Squeaky wheel gets the oil, just be persistent with them and they will get it done. They have came a long way and continue to update the building weekly. Now we just have to figure out what they are going to do with these old sliding doors. The new front entrance is beautiful and I am now able to buzz people up. I'm excited to see how they continue to update the building these upcoming months. Il be sure to keep everyone up to date.... read more

I have been a renter with Becovic since march 2013. Previously at 4520 N Clarendon, and now at 4707 N Albany. I had originally moved from St. Louis, MO with about a week to find a place because of a new job. I had a tight budget, a dog, among other needs and Becovic managed to get me into an apartment while planning everything from another state away. Jenny - here really helped me in many ways. The staff here have been immensely helpful and responsive to my needs. I trasferred to a different location within Becovic near the end of my lease because the customer service is so great. They have made my apartment experience very positive and I will continue to recommend them to others looking for an apartment. read more

7616 N Marshfield/The Marshfield property -Becovic Management-AVOID AT ALL COST ANYTHING AFFILIATED WITH THIS MANAGEMENT COMPANY....I have been horribly tolerating the last 11 months at this location AND I can tell you we are not the only ones but several people who moved in at same time or a bit after us all have complained about how horrible it is to live here (I don't think they have people who stay here longer than one lease term except probably the people who can't get an apartment anywhere else because I have seen several new tenants/people leave throughout my lease here.) I think this place has several section 8 units and those residents are the ones who are disrespectful, horribly loud late at night or even during the day fighting amongst themselves, and make it awful for other residents. Oh also don't be fooled how it says on the lease that they don't allow aggressive breeds here, since I have lived here I have seen at least 4 different ones and have had occasions where they have lunged at me and owners have had to hold them back (I wish one would bite me so I could sue the hell out of the owner and of this management company for avoiding my complaints about those breeds being in the building AND THEM IGNORING ME.) I have complained about all issues beyond the times I can count to the office and I can tell you guys that they start by making it sound like they care but they actually just IGNORE you fully on all issues since they continue to persist....I honestly feel like I deserve a refund for having lived here. It has been absolute hell and discomfort and we are not the only residents to agree on this. Don't be fooled by how they dress it up its all just a sham! All I can say is AVOID AT ALL COST THIS LOCATION AND THIS COMPANY AND THEIR OTHER PROPERTIES!!! read more

Once again the maintenance division of Becovic Management did a stellar job with 2 work orders for our apartment. The management is very attentive and helpful. Anytime I have submitted a request it has been handled either same day or shortly after. I moved into the Clarendon location several months ago, it's my first time renting from Becovic and I have had a few issues. I love the neighborhood but the apartment is overpriced and the building is not well cared for. I wanted to share a few of my issues about the building a the management company: A few of my maintenance requests were not dealt with and then they were marked as "completed" on the Becovic maintenance portal. I called maintenance multiple times and stopped by the office to try and have these issues dealt with only to be told that I have to submit them through the Becovic portal (which obviously didn't work the first time..) The ceiling over the side entrance to the building is sagging down and it drips dirty water on you when you walk in and there are always tons of flies around that area, I think they live in the moldy ceiling They advertised a bike room when I moved in and the first day I asked for access they told me it was $10 and that the room was all filled up (you would think they would have mentioned that earlier...) The days before I moved in I called two times to make sure everything was in order and I was told it was. The day I moved in they did not have a fab key to the building for me and I was told I could use the call box and I could press 1 and they would buzz me up. I used that call box the entire move in day and then for the next 3 days and never, not once did anyone answer that call or buzz me in. The machines in the laundry room do not work but no out of order signs are used so you end up putting detergent and coins into a machine only to find out it doesn't actually dry or it won't start the wash cycle They hold your packages in the office which makes it hard to pick them up when your work schedule is outside of their office hours, it took me almost a week to get the last one The elevators are slow and often dirty for several days at a time The outside of the building is a bit of a mess, there are tiles that have fallen off and been left on the ground around the building for months When you call the office the phone always goes to voicemail unless you press 1 for sales which is kind of crummy read more

I had to quickly find a place to move to in 2014 and I found this place. It was definitely very promising and the amenities sounded great. However, they did raise the rent significantly when they took over as management of the apartment that I stayed at. I really like the place and although the location is in a bad neighborhood, there is a tiny fitness room, an in-unit washer, hardwood floors, and a pretty nice kitchen & bathroom. I really do like the apartment but I feel like the management is a bit lacking. I'm not in the directory downstairs albeit being here for two years so I can't buzz people in, it's hard to get management to do maintenance, and the apartment itself falls apart easily--the hardwood floors are super squeaky, the bathroom itself is very loose, and etc. The elevator is a piece of work too, it definitely sounds like there's something wrong with it. I decided to re-lease for another year because the apartment itself is a really nice place though, albeit the many cracks. read more

I've renewed my lease this year with Becovic. I really like where live and how the property is maintained. It started off a little rough with my electronic key locking me out multiple times but they quickly resolved that issue for me and I haven't had any problems since. My refrigerator recently stopped working and less than 12 hours later I had a new one installed while I was at work! They have always been responsive of my maintenance requests. The only reason why I gave a 4 star is because the laundry machines seems to malfunction pretty often, otherwise I enjoy my stay here. read more

We just renewed our lease here because of how spacious the apartments are plus the residents here are quiet compared to our old place. The price of the apartments are not over priced. I've renewed my lease for the second time with Becovic. I really like the property I live in. The building is well maintained and recently modernized. I renew because my apartment is great, has three balconies that provide fantastic views of the Lake, and whenever I need anything taken care of, the management and maintenance teams ascertain that matters are handled promptly. A particular thanks to Lisa who often steers me toward answers to questions that arise. I also am glad to have a location not just park-adjacent but also within short walking distance to several bus lines and the red line. Each time I've renewed, I haven't considered moving elsewhere as an option. Thanks, Becovic team, for everything! read more

I definitely would not recommend this apartment management company. I've sent numerous emails to the property manager, Kevin Snider at Becovic, which have all gone ignored. They recently purchased my building from my previous landlords and it is clear that this company is only interested in making the highest profit. We have all received notice that they plan to convert our 1 bedroom units into 2 bedrooms by getting rid of the dining area and increase rent 50% (according to a news article). My apartment has a tiny living room without a dining room. Why would anyone want to rent the same unit for more money and less living space is beyond me. I was willing to give this new management group a chance, however they consistently ignore emails and calls from their tenants and it is clear that they do not care about their tenants and only seek profit. What a pity my Edgewater neighborhood is filled with so many Becovic-owned buildings. I am counting down the days to moving elsewhere soon. read more

Becovic never ceases to amaze me and came through not only for me but for all of the tenants in the building and possibly even helped other people in the neighborhood without even knowing it. We all know that things out of the control of building management happen, especially when living in the city. Instead of turning a blind eye to the issue, the onsite property manager took immediate action, solved what was occurring in our building and more than likely also saved other tenants across the neighborhood much time, money and frustration without even knowing it. The man is amazing and there are not enough thank you's to cover what he did for us and he is now officially our building superhero! :) How fast he took action, showing that the security and care of our tenants is their number one objective still leaves me in awe. So once again, I highly highly recommend Becovic to friends and family and also want to give the property manager and the team an extremely HUGE Thank You for what they did for us!! In addition, the new construction looks amazing! Hats off to Becovic again! :) read more
