Also, make sure that you have some time around your appointment time as she is working by herself and was running a little late for my appointment but I didn't have anything scheduled afterwards so I was fine with that. She did have a nice selection of glasses but some of them were a tad bit dated. She is also very very very friendly. I mean seriously like a friendly grandma that will take zero crap from you. Lol she tried to talk me out of the glasses that I chose and I wished that I had listened to her. Lol They are too heavy and that is exactly what she said but I was stubborn and wanted what I wanted! I used to go here with my family for years. Dr. Stocking was great and we never had an issue. That was not the case with my last visit. I had a medical issue with my eyes and she charged me for a visit out of pocket. When I asked why she didn't use my insurance she simply said "it's not worth my time. I only go through insurance if it's thousands of dollars". I used to be a medical professional myself for years and have never heard such a sentence uttered by any doctor. She then proceeded to go on a rant about the medical insurance industry and how things in Utah are. Well, we are in California so I couldn't care less how they do things in Utah. I asked for a receipt so I could ask my insurance for reimbursement and her attitude was just plain awful. If you're not happy, just retire already. I don't think I've ever had a worse FIRST and SECOND interaction with a total stranger/business owner than I just had two hours ago with Dr Beau. I walked over with 2 coworkers, one of whom was looking to purchase frames through our work insurance. You never know when you'll find some new glasses you'll like, so it seemed like a good excuse to join. We've all been wearing glasses basically our entires lives, so we understand the etiquette when it comes to these shops. However, within the first minute, I made the mistake of thinking a drawer underneath a display table might have additional stock inside. I pulled it open about an inch before realizing it was just general storage and closed it. Dr Beau burst out of an exam room and, in her most discourteous tone, exclaimed, "Do NOT open my drawers!" I was caught off guard and apologized, saying that I thought there maybe were more options in the drawers like at other shops. Instead of accepting that mistake, "OBVIOUSLY NOT!" was her condescending response. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but I BARELY peeked into the drawer and then apologized, so I'm not sure why she thought that was an appropriate interaction to have with 3 clearly potential customers. She went back into the exam room to deal with a patient. Two of us walked down the hall to join our shopping friend and check out the smaller side rooms. There isn't a sign, notice, or door saying not to accidentally look into the third room (literally 5 feet away), thinking it might also be a display room, but- without a change in attitude- she rushed back out to yell like, "What are you doing? I told you the glasses are only in these 2 rooms" at the other friend. Even though Dr Beau never said that to either of us, he apologized and said he didn't know there weren't glasses in there. "OBVIOUSLY there are no glasses over there!" Cool... a second nasty interaction within a few minutes. Obviously he should've known not to look in that next room, since he'd been to her shop a total of NEVER times before. I wasn't sure how to process this experience- both in our 30's but being treated like loose children, and again, both POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS who weren't turned off immediately after her first condescending display of superiority- although this second time was in front of her only other customer, a woman getting her eyes checked. That felt great! I said aloud that her attitude wasn't warranted and that I didn't like the atmosphere, so I was going to wait outside. Our female coworker then changed her mind, stopped trying on glasses, and we all walked out together. I've never felt inclined to write a Yelp review before, but this left such an unpleasant taste that I couldn't avoid it. Even though she takes our work's insurance and we're only 3 blocks away, I will never consider this place again. We were all potential customers, not kids running amuck in her store. She is probably the best eye doctor I have ever had. I went to her for years until I moved away. The thing you should know is she kind of old school so she takes her time really evaluating your eyes. Even my current doctor doesn't do all the tests she used to do. So don't expect to be in and out of there like Mc Eye place. The office is small, and lets just say, could use an extreme makeover. So if you are going for glamor, its not that kind of place. But if you really care about your eyes like I do, she was the best. She has been doing this for a long time, knows what she is doing. Frame selection is a little limited but she can get anything you want from hard to find contacts to special frames. Usually has to order them, so not instant gratification but I would rather wait and get things done the right way instead of in and out from some stranger in the mall. read more

I was a patient with Doctor Stocking for about 20 years. The only reason I stopped going was because I moved out of town. Even then, the 2 year after I moved, I made a trip back and had my eye checked by her. She's that great. Always received a top notch eye exam. Complete care, takes her time, does a fantastic job. She also knew that I liked unique frames, so was always letting me try one ever last one in her shop, and would even order if necessary. Wish I still lived in the area. I haven't had my eyes tested in over 8 years. Just couldn't trust any one else but Dr. Stocking. Broke my glasses and am now forced to go somewhere else. Dr. Stocking is hands-down the best optometrist I've ever had the privilege of having. She's been my eye specialist for over 8 years and it's been exceptional service every time. We recently moved to Texas but while we were in California she was the only doctor we saw. She is so sweet and accomodating. Her staff has always been the most welcoming and I'm sure this is due to Dr. Stocking focus on excellence. My prescriptions have always been for glasses and contacts and I've never had a problem getting exactly what I needed from Dr. Stocking. My glasses have always been up to my standards (which are pretty high) lol. In fact, there have been times once my glasses have arrived that Dr. Stocking saw things I didn't see and made sure to make corrections (even though I was satisfied). She has great attention to detail and goes over and beyond the call of duty for her customers. I"ve received calls from Dr. Stocking directly to check how my glasses and contacts where fitting especially if we switched brands. I always received appointment reminders (which is great because I'm really busy and sometimes forget). Whenever I've had questions Dr. Stocking has always been available. She is also very helpful and patient while answering questions and explaining choices. I feel that she takes her time and expresses a real caring attitude which I appreciate. Any trouble with lenses (1) was the fault of the maker and not Dr. Stocking. I needed a new pair of glasses. I hadn't had my prescription checked in a while, so I went to Dr. Stocking. The first prescription I got from her felt off, so I called her office to inquire. Give it a couple days, they said. Ok. I did. They continued to feel off. I called back. Now they suggested that I take a couple days off from my glasses. In other words, not to wear them, to give my eyes a rest. That seemed to contradict all the logic I'd picked up in my years of wearing glasses. So I went back for another visit. She altered the prescription slightly. I got new glasses. They felt weird, too. So I said screw it, and went to Lenscrafters. The doctor at Lenscrafters LAUGHED at my original prescription, saying that it was completely wrong. I got my new glasses, with my new prescription, at Lenscrafters that day. She is nightmare.I only went to Dr. Stocking because of the proximity to my neighborhood. My first experience with Dr. Stocking was just ok - although I felt like their office is stuck in time- and there are numerous phone calls back and forth confirming appointments etc-- a time waster---I had new glasses and needed a new prescription--- I still feel like the prescription she gave me is off but I primarily wear my contact lenses and just my glasses at home in the evenings-- so I didn't have her change them. I made an appointment this week because I need a new contact lens prescription-- Her office called me two times in a day with confusion about it--- I had to repeat that it would be my first contact lens test with that office and that was all I needed. I then received another call the next day with the same questions. The day of my appointment, Dr. Stocking was immediately hostile to me-- she was condescending, rude and quite frankly I have no idea what her issue was--- She seemed very angry and annoyed that I only wanted a contact lens prescription test and basically talked AT me in a highly abrupt manner- and told me I had walked in with a chip on MY shoulder-- She was arguing with me-- for what reason I have no idea---All I wanted was my eye test- I was perfectly happy and calm when I initially walked into her office-- she told me I would be happier somewhere else and I said I thought the whole experience was crazy. And I walked out. I think you can find a better Doctor. I am returning to Dr. Jeff Northcut in Silver Lake---I highly recommend him and should have never left his office just because of proximity. read more
