The item that I had stopped here for was one they did have, but the website makes it look better than it is and in person it was pretty terrible and cheap looking and 25 bucks for it so I wasn't going to pay that. Admittedly, though, they do have tons of costumes, makeup, and so on for you to create a fantastic alter ego. Employee was semi helpful, but she seem to be the only one so wasn't able to help much. (It was the day before Halloween.) Their website says they have parking in the back at the Montrose store. I'm not sure where in the back because I went to the back and there was a parking spot beside the one that I was in and then a UPS truck backed into the only exit, which is truly only large enough for a single vehicle (he was inches from the curb on both sides). So I had to wait while the UPS truck picked up a bunch of packages because the entire way was blocked. Luckily, that only took about two minutes, but I still wouldn't park there because who knows how long it might take the next time. There's parking in the front on the street.

You may not want to park in the back; though this is probably rare it could make things difficult.

Emergency costume delivery gave me a chuckle.

Beatnix has never been good and never will be - if they even last. Their selection is over-priced and crappy. Service is terrible and management/ownership is rude, disrespectful, and blatantly racist. This has been the case for years... how this store has lasted this long is beyond me. Trust me on this: spend your money elsewhere. Last time we went to visit, they were so aggressive with their bag check that we turned around and walked right out. Being in an interracial gay marriage, now we know why. This place is awful... a totally alt-right minded establishment. And they have the nerve to be located in Boystown of all places!?! Beatnix, you're not welcome in this city - especially not in the most diverse and minority driven neighborhood in the Midwest. Not surprised to hear of the recent racist incident(s) that have occurred here involving the confederate flag and people of color. Seems like this one star review was wayyyyyy overdue! Hopefully the recent negative attention will have this dump out of business before they can exploit the gay community before Pride. read more

Curious if Beatnix has anything to say for themselves, particularly its owner, after threatening one of Chicago's performers who happens to be a queer person of color. I'd also like to hear what Beatnix and Keith have to say about everything else in the attached photo (HERE: https://ibb.co/TBxb0vj) We will not tolerate this behavior any longer. Please advise on how you plan on moving forward, because as of right now the actions of the owner have turned Beatnix into a dangerous, toxic presence to our community. What you may have been able to get away with in the past, will not be tolerated anymore. We do not tolerate intolerance, hate, transphobia, or racism in our community, period. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, A 12 year customer and 9 year resident of Boystown Picture, again: https://ibb.co/TBxb0vj read more

Once upon a time, this used to be a pretty great spot to find unique and unusual clothing that represent otherness. In recent years, it's turned into a pit of disgusting bigotry against people within its own community. In order to continue to use the N word in this space, and to be this careless and heartless towards minority members of the LGBT+ community, the owner and some employees have to be a special kind of messed up. I wouldn't step foot in here again if my life depended on it. Avoid at all costs if you're looking for inclusivity. TeeTurtle is way better, and I'm sure there are other brick-and-mortar stores that don't spout racist slurs. read more

It was disgusting to read today that you all sell pieces showing the confederate flag. That flag/symbol is a sign of racism and hate, and even of terrorism and treason. I was just down in rural North Carolina and seeing a confederate flag down there is horrible but a little more expected. Seeing one in a store that is supposed to be accepting and welcoming in Chicago is just plain wrong. I no longer will spend money at this location as long as they continue to support racist, closed minded, terrorist. Please do the same and do not shop at this location whose owner supports hate and racism. read more
