Fantasy Costumes is a Fantastic place that I have been going to for all of my Halloween needs, party needs, and it is a one of a kind place !! I have been going here every year at Halloween, and again for all my special party needs, my good friend bought her wigs here , when she had a health scare, and they were so beautiful. I love this place, everyone there is so knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, if you've never been there, you MUST go check this place out, it is a staple in the Portage Park neighborhood right on Milwaukee Ave for at least 45 years, that's how long I've been going there!! And now I live over an hour away, but it is worth taking the ride, there is No place as cool as this place is! Check it out for Halloween and for all your party needs! I could not love this Northwest side gem more! A small business that knows their business, their merchandise and truly aims to leave you a happy customer - such a rarity these days. I've been shopping there for my kid's Halloween costumes for years and see the same employees there as I did 12 years ago. That's always a good sign. read more

I have gone to Fantasy Costume many times over the years, but this particular time was by far the best experience. I agreed to dress as Elsa for a child's birthday party and the day of the party (hours before!) my dress went missing. I called Fantasy costume and they, of course, had a beautiful Elsa dress that I could rent for the party! I was so relieved, I don't know what I would have done if they weren't there! read more

I've been coming to Fantasy for nearly 20 years and everytime I go I find yet another surprise. I am a make up artsit (hence some of my photos) and I love the fact that if I need to have Latex masks or Latex to create my own, its all here. Its really nice to know that you can get it all in once stop, but NEVER think you will be in and out the month of Halloween, are you kidding me? The line during this time can stretch well over a block and you will just wait your turn or get turned away, that simple. The array of wigs and make up is beyind what most could comprehend, but the nice thing about Fantasy is that you can also rent outfits anytime of the year. In the mood to be Marie Antoinette? Honestly, this place is overwhelmingly ready to serve clients looking to rent a great costume! They are well-known for being a Chicago legend in this regard. There is so much here that is available for purchase and for rent. Even if you're not in the market for a costume, it's a fun place to visit and get some ideas for the next costume event you attend! I was impressed that they had a few options for me in the way of a My Fair Lady dress. Way to go, Fantasy Costumes! read more

Gone here a few times- they have a huge selection/ everything is priced as you would find at a party city but definitely more to choose from. All the employees are super helpful and were able to help me find wigs based on what I was looking for. read more

While trying on a jacket, it came apart--and instead of treating us with respect or understanding, the general manager accused us of intentionally damaging it. We were then forced to watch a video of ourselves trying it on and were told we were responsible for the damage, even though it happened during a normal fitting. We understand the store may deal with difficult crowds in Boystown, but we came as paying customers who've supported this place in the past and even recommended it for its unique and fun items. To be rudely accused, made to feel like criminals, and then told we were banned was beyond disrespectful. The staff member who helped us try on jackets was clearly annoyed to even assist us and was vaping in the store--creating an unwelcoming atmosphere from the start. Management handled the situation terribly and made us feel completely unwelcome. Very disappointing experience all around. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the owner directly, as the current GM clearly does not understand how to treat paying customers.

This place is a danger to the community, particularly anyone without white skin and the transgendered community. STAY. AWAY.

Most of it isn't exactly my style, but my teen loved the store and I enjoyed buying things she disapproved of me wearing. The prices are great, the selection huge, and it's very organized. Many times, thrift shops have a yard sale vibe to them, but Ragstock feels like a regular retail store. There's a mix of vintage and new merch. Make sure you check out both floors as there's different categories of clothing between them both. For example, all of the vintage flannels are downstairs, along with sweaters and jackets. Definitely a thrift store worth checking out.

You will find plenty different costumes, make up to finish off whatever look you're going for, eyelashes etc. I really enjoyed checking out their displays, they have some super cool and creepy ones. It's worth coming in just for the displays alone. They are located right across Stan's Donuts and only street parking is available. In this area that can be a bit of a challenge.

The item that I had stopped here for was one they did have, but the website makes it look better than it is and in person it was pretty terrible and cheap looking and 25 bucks for it so I wasn't going to pay that. Admittedly, though, they do have tons of costumes, makeup, and so on for you to create a fantastic alter ego. Employee was semi helpful, but she seem to be the only one so wasn't able to help much. (It was the day before Halloween.) Their website says they have parking in the back at the Montrose store. I'm not sure where in the back because I went to the back and there was a parking spot beside the one that I was in and then a UPS truck backed into the only exit, which is truly only large enough for a single vehicle (he was inches from the curb on both sides). So I had to wait while the UPS truck picked up a bunch of packages because the entire way was blocked. Luckily, that only took about two minutes, but I still wouldn't park there because who knows how long it might take the next time. There's parking in the front on the street.

You may not want to park in the back; though this is probably rare it could make things difficult.

Emergency costume delivery gave me a chuckle.

I have been going to this store for at least two years now. I initially bought an Indiana Jones costume for a staggering 80 dollars. My money was well spent as it SURVIVED Warrior Dash (a 3 mile obstacle course with fire and mud!) Since then, I have been a loyal customer. I have discovered through many events (participating in plays, costume parties, other obstacle runs,even a few nerdy anime conventions!) that the costumes are as good as you invest in. The few times that I have "slapped costumes" together from the establishment, I have had to deal with the consequences. The staff is very friendly and accommodating to all of my needs. Sometimes I feel that I am nothing but a bother asking for help, and then after 20 minutes of help, to only put the items back. Despite this, the staff never gave me attitude! I do love that the staff each have different specialties (some with masks, make up, whole costumes, and even custom costumes!) I love this store. Plain and simple. I suggest this place to all of my friends, not only for Halloween! My friend that is a film major uses this place for all of his cosmetics and fake blood! My other friend uses a bit of money for a well done custom wig. Last remarks, I do understand why this shop has existed so long. The owner (who hangs around a lot and participates in very, very friendly dialogue with every patron) has survived at the location due to him acquiring more products, and branching out. They have mascots, among their costumes, but also recently just added an "adults" section that many grown ups frequent; either for the "sexy" version of a character, or even some Role Play fun! I shouldn't leave this review on such an "adult" topic...but you know how Freud roles... wakka wakka... ...Go to this store. read more

This store is just fabulous. I mean the selection is just out of this world. Thousands of items. I was just overwhelmed but the staff really is helpful and knowledgeable. Don't waste your time at other stores, these guys have it all! Prices are pretty darn cheap as well. The owner George was there every time I visited and he really does care about his customers. I know this store has been around 40 plus years but that really doesn't have an effect on the owner. He treats everyone with respect and I really like that. I haven't found any store in the Chicagoland area that has so many costumes, masks, outfits, Halloween stuff etc. This is where I am buying my Halloween items and with 24x7 access I doubt if any other store can beat it. Thanks again for great service and treating your customers like gold. I have a humble request however, please open a shop in the Suburbs so we don't have to travel that far although I don't mind....for now as there's nothing like your store in the burbs yet :) read more

Top Shelf service with the Largest selection of Costumes in the Country. My family has been going to Fantasy Costumes for over 40 years and it just keeps getting better. One year we had a Al Capone Party and we all dressed up like gansters -- Very Cool. This years family reunion will be a 70's party and we already talked to George about stocking the costumes we need in June. I am going as Under Cover Brother. Where is my Pic for my Fro! Of course I'm too short too be Jimmy Walker, but I know my costume will be Dynomite because Fantasy Costumes is getting it for me. My kids can't wait for Halloween - its like their own little Halloween Fashion Show everytime we make the trip. This place is huge and the selection is ridiculous. Went in recently looking for some St. Patrick's day stuff and spent an hour in here looking at everything. They have costumes you can rent too that normally are probably hundreds of dollars. They had a ton of Easter bunny costumes laid out with tags on them that had been rented. Like multiple colors of rabbit costumes. I always wondered where people get those things and I guess this is the place. I think the only downside to this place is that it's too big. So you kind of need help working your way through the store. But they had plenty of people working when I was in there to help guide me to the right place. I imagine around Halloween this place is a cluster, but I'll come back then cause I'm always the guy dressing up as whatever is left at Walgreens...which is depressing and never goes as planned. My friend Dave told me about Fantasy Costumes and I must admit he was right. Fantasy Costumes does have the Best & Largest selection of Costumes that i have ever seen. The staff is awesome to work with and they had everything I needed for my 70's Party next month. I even found an Easter Bunny Costume that I bought for our Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday (very cool). Plus I got this kick ass Leperchaun Hat which will look Fantastic on me in the St. Patricks Day Parade. I like this place so much that I think my staff should dress up in costume every day. This past year, I made my Halloween costume at home (I was a mummy). But I still needed the materials, so I swung by my local costume store, Fantasy Costumes. Although I tend to be the type to buy something and leave, I actually struck up a great conversation with Chuck. Not only did he answer all of my questions, but I felt like he actually cared about building a relationship outside of the one-off transaction. And this is completely ignoring the block-long selection they have in the store. If there was ever anything obscure (or mainstream) that I'd be looking for, I'd bet there'd be a 95% chance they'd have it. While I don't live in the area anymore, I'll still head over to Fantasy Costumes at Six Corners for all of my costume needs. read more

This is the most amazing place, I felt like a kid in a candy store, the selection of kids costumes was the best I have ever seen and since Halloween is my favorite holiday I just can't make up my mind on which ( witch ) costume i like the best for me and my kids. The staff was great in giving me ideas for make up so we would not need to wear any masks. I have been to other costume stores but by far this is the best one around for selection, service, and price. Just a note: order your Halloween costumes early because they are going fast. Fantasy Costumes is THE BEST costume store I've ever been to! I mean who else stocks 3 to 5 million dollars worth of Costumes and Party Supplies ??? They have costumes to buy or rent, or even pieces of costumes (I.e. Wigs, glasses, masks, etc.) that you can piece together with what you already have or the staff will put together a costume just for you. Anytime either myself or one of my friends need to BuyCostumes oe something Party City related, we go to Fantasy Costumes. The place is a city block long, open year round, with plenty of street parking or they have a lot around the corner during Halloween. I was in the city a few weeks ago to check out a film festival at the Portage Theater. I was early and the people I was meeting up with were running late, so I stopped into this gem of a costume store beforehand just to look around. A metric ton of goodies and the people behind the counter were helpful even though I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking for. I ended up being in the store for 45 minutes, but it felt like 5. Looked through their book of rentals, which they apparently do, and there was a lot of amazing costumes. Walked out with spray hair coloring and a plastic sewer rat. Where else could you say that? Fantasy Costumes is a crazy fun shop! I went in a couple of weeks ago with my girlfriend looking for a costume for an 80's party I was going to. I decided to go with an 80's hair metal rocker and they had absolutely everything I needed for an awesome costume that ended up being a real hit. My girlfriend was also able to put together a valley girl costume with the help of the courteous, knowledgeable and creative staff. We ended up wandering around for a while after we had everything and it's amazing how much they really have. I can't thank the staff enough for helping us out on this one. 5 Stars, hands down. I went to Fantasy after hearing a lot about it from a couple of friends who do the zombie pub crawls frequently. I really didn't go in with the intention of buying anything specific, but just walking around this place is an adventure! They have so much stuff, it's unbelievable. The staff really knew what they were talking about and knew where everything was, even though the store is like a block long and packed with inventory. I ended up walking out happy and with a sexy Wolverine costume. Nerdy AND sexy lol Ultimately I will recommend this store to anyone and everyone I know. Awesome experience. I been through many costumes stores but this the first one that I went to that truly stands out. First of all the people here are very passionate about their jobs here, its clear to anyone that visits this place that the employees truly love their jobs. The second thing is the variety of good quality costumes that are available here is amazing. Other places offer costumes, but often time they are of poor quality and made in China. I was happy with the purchase for Halloween of last year and will come here again for other special ocassions. read more

This place is filled with a lot of neat costumes, however my visit was for a wig that due to a family members illness. The wig selection must be in the hundreds. Zee an employee, was very knowledgeable, knew what she was doing and very easy to deal with. After a few trials, the proper fit was found and tailored. Another employee Cathy rang up the order and provided information regarding insurance coverage for our purchase. Biggest selection I've ever seen. I came in because I'm not crazy about Halloween, but alas, I needed a costume. Not big on pre-planning, so I just started to walk around to see if inspiration would hit. They have so much stuff, regardless if you want to buy a pre-pack or assemble your own costume, they've got you covered. I bought a wolverine costume from this place for a x men costume party a year ago. This place is great. They have so many costumes for you to choose from. It was hard for me to choose just one so I went ahead and also bought a HALO 3 DLX COSTUME. Huge fan of Halo as well and could not resist passing up on that costume. I'm very disappointed with my experience. I spent a lot of time and money, only to get home and find a hole in my costume and a piece missing. It was such horrible quality for the price. When you spend $100 on a costume/accessories you should get more than a piece of crap. If you do check out this store be prepared for large crowds, long lines, and shitty quality costumes. I bought a cute little rain slicker for my daughter and I almost can't wait until spring so she can wear it. In the back, she even has a dollhouse which I think isn't for sale, but is for kids to play with. Maybe I'm wrong about that, though! There's lots of toys and tchotchkes here too. I bought some little bath bombs that look like donuts because I think my kiddo will be amazed when they start to fizz. I also picked up some crayons and a couple other things. There's no parking lot but you may find parking along Montrose or Ashland. The entrance is a little funny; it opens at street level but there's a steep ramp down to the store, which is below grade. I assume that like many shops at this level it had steps to get down and as a children's store, a ramp definitely would be in order to accommodate strollers. But it is indeed a bit steep so be mindful of that.

I just purchased a baptism outfit for my son from this store after it being highly recommended by a…read morefriend. We went in 2 weeks ago on a Saturday and found one that we absolutely loved. It was cream color with blue trim. Ivette (I believe she's the owner?) said she wasn't sure we'd be able to get it in time as it's coming from England but she'd verify with the manufacturer on Monday and let me know before taking payment. She showed us several other options in a catalogue and we didn't like any of them. Monday she lets me know that the outfit should come on time - as a backup plan, I said I'd be happy to take the floor model from her store and have some alterations done as it was a little big for him. Earlier this week she called to let me know the outfit came in, so we went to pick it up today and to my dismay, it was not the right outfit. It was the same outfit in solid cream with no blue trim - we discussed how much I liked the blue trim at length, and she even texted me a picture of the outfit with the blue to confirm that was the correct one (screen shot of text below). When she brought out the solid cream outfit my mom and I both said that's not the one we ordered. She got extremely defensive and argumentative, blaming me!! Saying that was the outfit I ordered and basically it's not her problem. I understand mistakes happen and I would have respected her if she admitted something got lost in translation - instead she continued to blame me and tell me it's not her fault I didn't look at the wording on the invoice. Which by the way, said "ivory". The outfit is ivory but with blue trim. She claimed that she sent the picture of the outfit via text to show me the one from the store that I've already seen - that's a lie; she sent it with the invoice to confirm that was the right one. And Apparently I'm supposed to know that she baited and switched my order and also know how the manufacturer words their colors on invoices. It's obvious to me that she just wanted to charge me $400 for an outfit that's sold for $200 online. She continued to say that i was being disrespectful when all she was doing was LYING about what I really ordered. I could tell she knew she made a mistake the minute we walked in the door. We ended up taking the floor model which will require significant alterations on my dime. She didn't offer up any kind of a discount for taking the outfit that's been hanging in her store for so long, but she slammed $20 on the counter as a refund for the shipping for the WRONG OUTFIT (fun fact, the shipping was $27 hut what's $7 at this point?). This place is an absolute joke and Ivette is a complete liar and scammer and overpriced. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND this place.

They pointed out a couple areas where they have "girl" baby clothes (I mean, clothing doesn't have a gender but we exist in the world where people like to do that). Most of their clothes are for children older than mine but they did have a few things. It's definitely expensive, though, so I don't know that I'd buy a lot here. I did buy some very cute barrettes for my baby (I've found it hard to find some that don't have pieces attached to them, and I don't want pieces that might pull off) and I'll probably purchase more at some point. I also will check out their holiday stuff and may look at the coats they have as well, as the weather cools down. I'll certainly keep an eye on their Instagram, too.
