Decent selection and decent prices! I went on 1/31 and everything was 50% off. Some of the garments had rips/tears and some had stains and were priced too high considering the damages. Fitting room situation is a little strange but otherwise I'd recommend Monarch! read more

Great thrift shop with a worthy mission - homelessness. Wide selection of items and reasonable prices, even better on their special discount days - usually Wednesday and Friday. I always enjoy poking around neighborhood thrift stores. "Monarch Thrift Shop" is located in the Avondale neighborhood. Since it's on Milwaukee Ave. where many local businesses reside, it gets good foot traffic. It's also contributed by its proximity to the Logan Sqaure neighborhood. Items appeared to be professionally organized. Clothing was separated by sizes and styles. Prices were pretty alright, considering some were from reputable brands and could be quite expensive if purchased new. When I went in, there were $1 female and $3 male t-shirt sales going on. In addition, fitting rooms were available for shoppers' convenience. I was looking for a matching chair for the sunroom cafe as part of my home improvement project. Although I did not find anything suitable for the purpose, I checked out the plates, cups, kitchenware, table cloths, any other miscellaneous items within the category. As a homeowner, I would love to save money on things that could be pricy at a big bucks store. In other words, if I could reuse something that still had its worth, buying the second hand stuff sounded like a brilliant idea to me! With that being said, I will probably pop in if I'm in the area on a Saturday, as they close on Sundays. read more

I went this afternoon to the opening of their new space, basically across the street from their old space. More room and stuff to browse and/or buy! The staff is friendly and some of them are volunteers. All proceeds benefit 'vulnerable populations'. You have to wear a mask while inside. They have stuff you can buy online as well. I have never left this store without a new treasure! A majority of the store is filled with racks and racks of clothes but I think most categories are represented: books, kitchenware/home, books, wall decor and smaller furniture. In the past, we found an absolutely perfect Lane leather sofa for $250 and today we found an old military chest, a large picture, mid century magazine holder and a wooden kids chair all for the grand total of $40!?! It's not the largest store but definitely not a closet or labyrinth of narrow aisles like some stores. I could see it being hit-or-miss if you frequently stop but I've never left empty handed. The staff is always very friendly and let you know about any special sales but otherwise let you wander. This is just a great store that supports the community! read more

This spankin' new nonprofit thrift store in the Logan Square/Avondale neighborhood is a wonderful addition to Chicago's resale scene. Open since October 10, the store's packed with great merchandise at very attractive prices. For the treasure hunter, there are some very cool items, including a Waterford crystal Christmas tree topper. For fashionistas, the selection of women's, men's, and children's clothing is excellent and nicely displayed. I'm a furniture aficianado, and I really like some of the casegoods I saw. I didn't buy anything today, but I'll be back. For those of us looking to save a few bucks, suggest putting Monarch on your list of places to shop! read more

Awesome and super cute shop with a tonne of stuff at outrageously low prices. The decor is great as well-- it has an exposed brick interior(reminds me of some swanky coffee and tea places ive been to), everything is well laid out and the manager even has a scented oil air refresher going on. OHMYGOSH I just really love this shop. The set up is excellent and I really appreciate that while it's a thrift store, there is a true strive to keep the store in a boutique-esque layout. For example, today I popped in and someone was walking around cleaning and shining all of the furniture so it looked brand new. Its those little details that are really special for customers, especially those of us that thrift. I've been in twice and both times I have poked around the clothing section and can't really find anything that screams at me, but there are lots of basics and shoes in sizes smaller than a 10. It is also notable to say that lots of the clothes are brands that one could buy at Kohl's or Old Navy or Forever 21, which is okay but I'm always a bit iffy buying fast fashion brands in any setting. Anywho, that's just a thought. ALTHOUGH TODAY when I popped in I came in for a chair that I was eyeing last time, and since the chair had been there for a few months she offered me a bit of a discount and I nabbed it!! I now love my lovely loveseat and I urge people to go check out the rest of the furniture, it is awesome! Also, free coconut water!! read more

I've lived just around the corner from the Monarch Thrift Shop for quite a while, but hadn't noticed it until last weekend when I was searching for old furniture. They have a fantastic selection of resale wares in great condition: furniture, clothing, dishware and other homewares. In my experience, it's rare to find a thrift shop that's this well curated. More importantly, the service was phenomenal -- I was looking for used furniture to refinish and reupholster, and the manager was so helpful in making sure I knew everything they had in store. I found exactly what I was looking for thanks to her! And to top it all off, it's a non-profit, supporting programs dedicated to addiction recovery, reintegration, HIV/AIDS and other populations in need. Oh and they take credit and debit cards, which is another plus. Monarch is great either for shopping for consignment or for taking used stuff. My wife and I are using Marie Kondo's KonMari method of cleaning out all the things in our house that "don't spark joy" and we brought them to Monarch. The employees quickly and cheerfully unloaded our van. They can quickly write up a receipt for tax-deductions also. Everything about this store helps to remove barriers to employment for our Chicago neighbors. Also, I appreciate how open and beautiful the layout is - makes it easy to find what you need. read more

I've been a customer (and donator) of Monarch for over 5 years, when they opened up in September 2016. This is my go-to spot for pretty much everything! The store is a beautiful space that the staff work really hard at keeping clean, organized, and well laid-out. The items are of very good or excellent quality and fairly priced! I've bought everything there-from greeting cards (Papyrus that retail for $6/ card were just .13 cents today due to being 1/2 off), plus size clothing (Levi's jeans), Bontrager cycling clothes, to scarves and rugs and furniture! The staff AND the volunteers are the best-so friendly and helpful (and when Maggie the store pup...it's even better). The mission is one that I can REALLY get behind and it makes me feel good to contribute to such important causes (homelessness and reduction in recidivism). I can't say enough good things about Monarch-run, don't walk and see for yourself. (But make an appointment because they are responsible and doing their part to stop the spread of Covid!). read more

I just moved to Chicago and I'm a huge thrifter! I've only been able to find thrift stores that just sell clothes, which is cool, but I love thrifting furniture and other chachki items. And if you're like me, then Monarch is the place for you! Not only did they have everything and anything, the staff was so nice and friendly, which made the atmosphere so refreshing! Recently bought a bookcase with sign stating it was Ikea. Little beat up but I just moved and was desperate Paid $35. It was delivered by a neighbor and we found the back was cardboard.
