I went to Monarch Thrift Shop on a day when the whole store was 50% off and had a great time digging around for hidden gems. The store is large, but still well-organized and decently clean. There are three fitting rooms available which is always appreciated at a thrift store. The store has a nice selection of items, including clothing for the whole family, pet supplies, and homewares. I ended up leaving with a Ted Baker dress, some collectable pins, and a beautiful crystal bowl. Everything was fairly priced and the employees were all very friendly. I'll be back here for sure! read more

Great space! I found a few cute new tops without having to dig a bunch like other thrift stores. Monarch was organized well and the prices seemed reasonable. Lots of good brands (I was finding lots of Gap, which I loved!) and a good selection of home goods and trinkets too! The woman working was also very nice. read more

Decent selection and decent prices! I went on 1/31 and everything was 50% off. Some of the garments had rips/tears and some had stains and were priced too high considering the damages. Fitting room situation is a little strange but otherwise I'd recommend Monarch! read more

Great space. Organized well, great variety of selection and reasonable pricing. Staff is welcoming and helpful.

It's cute. But the prices are sometimes crazy. I'm not just talking about the high end designer stuff either. Like $3 for a paper bag. No thanks. Selection is okay. The employees were kind. I did find a nice purse and something for my kitchen. read more

Selection not of interest. Overpriced for thrift store. It was well organized but it was more like a garage sale. Not much vintage.

Favorite thrift shop! Great selection and it seems like they launder everything because it doesn't have the trademark thrift store smell. The people working here are so so nice too! They have fitting rooms and housewares/shoes as well. On fridays clothes are 50% off, and on Wednesdays there's a store wide discount!! read more

Monarch Thrift Shop - Inside - Thrift Stores Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This shop is literally right around the corner from where I live. Never thought to stop until I was walking home from a hair appointment just at the corner. I must say, was pleasantly surprised at the racks of great items. Clothing, accessories, home items as well. Bought myself The coolest hat! Will def pop in again. read more

Great thrift shop with a worthy mission - homelessness. Wide selection of items and reasonable prices, even better on their special discount days - usually Wednesday and Friday. Many name brands on clothes from banana republic to J.Crew and gap. Owner is friendly and extremely helpful. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I always enjoy poking around neighborhood thrift stores. "Monarch Thrift Shop" is located in the Avondale neighborhood. Since it's on Milwaukee Ave. where many local businesses reside, it gets good foot traffic. It's also contributed by its proximity to the Logan Sqaure neighborhood. Items appeared to be professionally organized. Clothing was separated by sizes and styles. Prices were pretty alright, considering some were from reputable brands and could be quite expensive if purchased new. When I went in, there were $1 female and $3 male t-shirt sales going on. In addition, fitting rooms were available for shoppers' convenience. I was looking for a matching chair for the sunroom cafe as part of my home improvement project. Although I did not find anything suitable for the purpose, I checked out the plates, cups, kitchenware, table cloths, any other miscellaneous items within the category. As a homeowner, I would love to save money on things that could be pricy at a big bucks store. In other words, if I could reuse something that still had its worth, buying the second hand stuff sounded like a brilliant idea to me! With that being said, I will probably pop in if I'm in the area on a Saturday, as they close on Sundays. read more

I went this afternoon to the opening of their new space, basically across the street from their old space. More room and stuff to browse and/or buy! The staff is friendly and some of them are volunteers. All proceeds benefit 'vulnerable populations'. You have to wear a mask while inside. They have stuff you can buy online as well. Several restaurants are nearby for before or after shopping. read more

It was a decent store. I was able to find $40 worth of skirts... 3 with tags on them. Although the pricing needs to be clearer as to how it's marked. The store was in decent order and the cashier was super friendly read more

I have never left this store without a new treasure! A majority of the store is filled with racks and racks of clothes but I think most categories are represented: books, kitchenware/home, books, wall decor and smaller furniture. In the past, we found an absolutely perfect Lane leather sofa for $250 and today we found an old military chest, a large picture, mid century magazine holder and a wooden kids chair all for the grand total of $40!?! It's not the largest store but definitely not a closet or labyrinth of narrow aisles like some stores. I could see it being hit-or-miss if you frequently stop but I've never left empty handed. The staff is always very friendly and let you know about any special sales but otherwise let you wander. This is just a great store that supports the community! read more

So I've been there only once the workers there are really nice and friendly. They have good stuff if you take time but it's an okay place to go if your by. You can maybe find something you like! read more

This spankin' new nonprofit thrift store in the Logan Square/Avondale neighborhood is a wonderful addition to Chicago's resale scene. Open since October 10, the store's packed with great merchandise at very attractive prices. For the treasure hunter, there are some very cool items, including a Waterford crystal Christmas tree topper. For fashionistas, the selection of women's, men's, and children's clothing is excellent and nicely displayed. I'm a furniture aficianado, and I really like some of the casegoods I saw. I didn't buy anything today, but I'll be back. For those of us looking to save a few bucks, suggest putting Monarch on your list of places to shop! read more

Really liked this place. Clean, organized, and the racks weren't so stuffed you couldn't get through them. The items were high quality-I found what looked like a brand new coat for $25. And proceeds are for charity! Can't beat that. read more

Purchased a fleece jacket from Monarch Thrift Shop's online shop. The jacket arrived quickly and was in great condition. I used a previously purchased gift card for part of the cost of the jacket and that worked well. The store also supports a great cause! read more

Awesome and super cute shop with a tonne of stuff at outrageously low prices. The decor is great as well-- it has an exposed brick interior(reminds me of some swanky coffee and tea places ive been to), everything is well laid out and the manager even has a scented oil air refresher going on. Definitely going back, the next time I'm in chicago and I need to find great quality, in expensive things. The money made also goes to a good cause read more

OHMYGOSH I just really love this shop. The set up is excellent and I really appreciate that while it's a thrift store, there is a true strive to keep the store in a boutique-esque layout. For example, today I popped in and someone was walking around cleaning and shining all of the furniture so it looked brand new. Its those little details that are really special for customers, especially those of us that thrift. I've been in twice and both times I have poked around the clothing section and can't really find anything that screams at me, but there are lots of basics and shoes in sizes smaller than a 10. It is also notable to say that lots of the clothes are brands that one could buy at Kohl's or Old Navy or Forever 21, which is okay but I'm always a bit iffy buying fast fashion brands in any setting. Anywho, that's just a thought. ALTHOUGH TODAY when I popped in I came in for a chair that I was eyeing last time, and since the chair had been there for a few months she offered me a bit of a discount and I nabbed it!! I now love my lovely loveseat and I urge people to go check out the rest of the furniture, it is awesome! Also, free coconut water!! read more

I've lived just around the corner from the Monarch Thrift Shop for quite a while, but hadn't noticed it until last weekend when I was searching for old furniture. They have a fantastic selection of resale wares in great condition: furniture, clothing, dishware and other homewares. In my experience, it's rare to find a thrift shop that's this well curated. More importantly, the service was phenomenal -- I was looking for used furniture to refinish and reupholster, and the manager was so helpful in making sure I knew everything they had in store. I found exactly what I was looking for thanks to her! And to top it all off, it's a non-profit, supporting programs dedicated to addiction recovery, reintegration, HIV/AIDS and other populations in need. Oh and they take credit and debit cards, which is another plus. I don't normally write reviews, but I had such a positive experience here I wanted to make sure you know it's well worth the visit if you're in the neighborhood! read more

Monarch is great either for shopping for consignment or for taking used stuff. My wife and I are using Marie Kondo's KonMari method of cleaning out all the things in our house that "don't spark joy" and we brought them to Monarch. The employees quickly and cheerfully unloaded our van. They can quickly write up a receipt for tax-deductions also. Everything about this store helps to remove barriers to employment for our Chicago neighbors. Also, I appreciate how open and beautiful the layout is - makes it easy to find what you need. read more

Popped into Monarch on my way home from work. Total cuteness: women's and men's clothing, dishes, furniture, and a nice selection of very reasonably priced Christmas decorations. Monarch's got a gorgeous Weiman French Provincial chest that I'm lusting for! Really nice people working here and all profits support a wonderful organization, Emmaus Ministries. "Monarch, I'm glad to meet you." read more

This is such a hidden gem. The shop is run by friendly people and you really can't beat the prices - very reasonable. They always have a good selection of housewares and clothing. Definitely make it a point to go there every month. read more

I've been a customer (and donator) of Monarch for over 5 years, when they opened up in September 2016. This is my go-to spot for pretty much everything! The store is a beautiful space that the staff work really hard at keeping clean, organized, and well laid-out. The items are of very good or excellent quality and fairly priced! I've bought everything there-from greeting cards (Papyrus that retail for $6/ card were just .13 cents today due to being 1/2 off), plus size clothing (Levi's jeans), Bontrager cycling clothes, to scarves and rugs and furniture! The staff AND the volunteers are the best-so friendly and helpful (and when Maggie the store pup...it's even better). The mission is one that I can REALLY get behind and it makes me feel good to contribute to such important causes (homelessness and reduction in recidivism). I can't say enough good things about Monarch-run, don't walk and see for yourself. (But make an appointment because they are responsible and doing their part to stop the spread of Covid!). read more

I just stopped by here and picked up a marble-topped cabinet/side table on clearance for $5, as well as a little black wall-mounted spotlight lamp (also $5!). I'll definitely be back! The store was clean and well-organized, prices were amazing and the volunteers working there were super friendly! read more

I just moved to Chicago and I'm a huge thrifter! I've only been able to find thrift stores that just sell clothes, which is cool, but I love thrifting furniture and other chachki items. And if you're like me, then Monarch is the place for you! Not only did they have everything and anything, the staff was so nice and friendly, which made the atmosphere so refreshing! Everything is reasonably priced and they also have deals and discounts on selected items. They take donations too! If you're looking to support a non-profit organization, finding unique treasures, and being surrounded by friendly people, this is the place to go! read more

I came here to buy a a dress or just see what they had. They didn't have a lot for plus size. I didn't end up buying any clothing. The jewelry choices were not fantastic. They had a few records. I think the only reason to come to this store is for the amazing dish sets they have. read more

Loved the things I found here! Service was great and would for sure go back! I found a really cool shirt and some great exercise apparel

Recently bought a bookcase with sign stating it was Ikea. Little beat up but I just moved and was desperate Paid $35. It was delivered by a neighbor and we found the back was cardboard. Found the same thing, same price in Walmart but new, of course. I'm all for giving to charity but not being robbed by them. I make sure to work my experience into every conversation I can Definitely Buyer Beware! read more

This place is amazing. If you're on a tight budget because of bills or because your saving up for a great trip, don't pay full price for new clothes, shoes, and accessories! Come to Monarch! They have kids clothing, adult clothing, and it's a non profit organization. I believe you can donate your oldies but goodies too. They have sales too! Who would have thought! The sale specials make shopping there even more fun and rewarding! read more

Felt like home as soon as I walked in, the staff was friendly and very helpful :) Definitely will be returning!

Every time I come in this store they make me feel so uncomfortable. They watch every move I make and make me feel that I'm going to steal. I like the store but do not appreciate that at all. My daughter has notice this when she is with me as well. read more

This thrift shop has been the loveliest store I've been too. The decoration and organization are appealing. It has a decent selection of everything for a fair price for the most part. The lack of one star is because the time I visited this shop, I wasn't welcomed & the whole time during my visit it felt a bit awkward since the employees/owners didn't talk to me at all although the store was pretty much empty. read more

Nice little thrift shop. Was clean and well organized.

NOT KID FRIENDLY. NOT FRIENDLY. There are far too many good thrift stores in Chicago to be treated poorly in this one. My son picked up a wooden block and a woman rushed over and said we would have to purchase it first and then a man came up behind us and just glared. Really? We can't even look at anything? Not friendly, not helpful, not kind. I'm not going to bother going back. read more

My visit to Monarch was a delight! The store is so beautifully decorated and laid out that it felt more like a consignment shop than a thrift shop. The clothes were high quality and in very good condition, and there was also a wide selection of house decor and furniture. While I was there, I found an awesome dress from a local designer that I can't wait to wear! The staff were so kind and personable. The folks who run Monarch really have a heart to serve and support the community of Chicago; your money spent there will definitely go to a good cause. read more

This place is basically next door to where I live, so I pop in frequently. They have a nice selection of a little bit of everything. Prices are very reasonable. I love that it gives back to the community in different ways and the salespeople are always very friendly.
