The staff here are as friendly to me as they are to any expert-level client, and that is awesome. So often the vibe in shops like this is aimed only at bike messenger-types, but that's not the case with Ride Away. The first time I wanted a banana seat for my kids 20" bike to give it the retro look of the 70s. The person at the counter didn't know what a banana seat was. So I checked my phone and the first thing that popped up was the YouTube of the song "Banana bike" which is hella cute. Still drawing blanks with her, so okay, no dice on the seat, time to move on as there are many bicycle shops in the area, no need to dwell on this one. (I went to a few more, without any luck, and finally ended up hitting the jackpot at Spin Cycle, which is the solo guy operating out of a container at Market 707, thank you!) The second time was a curbside when I wanted a helmet light after getting my bicycle mounted one stolen when I parked my bike for a 30 minute Chiro appointment. They were quick and efficient when I called them from outside on the phone and brought me what I needed. Easy. Paid for it at the doorway and was on my way with a sweet $55 USB light that can stay on my helmet and I can bring it with me when parking my bike. Thanks Urbane!

Another occasion I went to upgrade my handlebar, and the sales man was so condescending to explain the difference in sizes, and was so impatient. There were two young guys working in the shop. Both said hello and asked if I needed help. I explained what I had done and he gave me two options; buy an inner tube and replace myself, or leave it with them for an hour and they could replace it for me. I opted to leave it. In the end, it ended up taking longer than expected- but for $28 - it was worth it.

YA- NO Never bring…read moreyour bike here!! Especially if you're a woman. They are rude, misogynistic, greedy, and will return your bike in worse and unsafe condition. I went into Ya Bikes preemptively before dropping off my bike to see what the guys were like and if I could trust them with my bike. The first person I spoke to was really nice (wish i could shout him out) and gave me options for replacing my tube including coming back and having him replace it in an hour for $30. I was clear on the brand of bike and that it was a big heavy step through Dutch style. I never saw this man again unfortunately. I came back a few days later and dealt with the mechanic who's photo is all over the wall and upon me telling him my one tube was popped and the other possibly had a slow leak (I asked if they could check before replacing) tried mansplaining to me "have you tried putting air in them". He was rude, didn't listen, was short with me and told me it would take a day to fix the two flats. I didn't get a call back until the TWO days later. $100 later I picked up my bike. No one gave me any information on the fix or held the door open for my to walk the bike out. I was on my bike for less than a minute when I heard a horrible grinding noise and realized that they hadn't properly reattached my skirt guards. One fell off immediately and was instantly run over by the streetcar putting me in danger trying to save it and it got completely bent. The other continued to grind away as i made my way back to the shop. When I arrived to explain what happened I was interrupted again while the mechanic tried to mansplain my experience to me once more. I left again and had walked the 20 minutes home when I received a phone call that the bike is ready to be picked up again (it would have been nice to be given some timing or be told to wait) and that they will refund their labor because i was "clearly upset". The labor portion of a $100 invoice is not enough to cover a new skirt guard on a hand built British bike. When i returned again for the bike they wouldn't speak to me, didn't apologize, and when I drove away it is still making a horrible grinding and rattling noise that wasn't happening when I dropped it off. This is my closest bike shop and I will never bring my bike back here and will tell everyone I know to avoid this place. So utterly sad and disappointed about all of this.

They changed out my flat tire on the spot, where at another place they held my bike overnight! In the past they helped me install my bike lock mount for free (which I had struggled with on my own), and they also gave me a free tire fill-up! The store is clean and well laid out and they always give me all the facts about products instead of upselling me like other places.. I really can't say enough great things. I also love that they have women working there! It feels very comforting to enter a bike shop that's not a dude fest. I bought an adult bike from Cyclepath in 2019 and was hoping to get one for my daughter this year. I called and someone answered - I was intentionally being very pleasant because i was asking if they had stock for a 24 inch bike and I know stock questions are annoying sometimes! He told me in a deadpan voice "no stock." Thats fine. I went to ask if there was a size smaller and he then cut me off (I didn't even get to specify the size) and he said again in the same annoyed voice that there was no stock. I asked for clarification that they had no stock at all and he responded extremely annoyed and rudely that they had no stock (please tell me how I am supposed to have known this? I never received the Cyclepath stock bulletin, smh). To which I responded: "ohhhkay, you do not have to be so rude" - not raising my voice, but genuinely making the statement because I did nothing to deserve the tone. He then said: "Rude? How am I being rude?" and HUNG up on me. This is just totally unnecessary - I was hoping we could get bikes from the entire family from this store because I had a nice experience last summer, but obviously we will be taking our business elsewhere.

On the day we went to pick it up, we also decided to buy a bike for me. After trying several options, I finally chose one. All seemed good--until they brought out my husband's bike, which turned out to have completely different specs than what was originally offered. We began discussing alternatives with the salesperson, and my husband started trying other models. Suddenly, the salesperson walked off to the parking lot because a friend of his had arrived. They came inside, but instead of continuing to help us, the salesperson turned his full attention to his friends and completely ignored us, it wasn't just a moment, it was at least 15-20 min, So we left. Thankfully, we then went to a store in Whitby where the experience was completely different. We were warmly welcomed, given clear explanations of so many options, and ended up purchasing two bikes very quickly. That's how customer service should be.
