After asking me some great questions about my goals, he decided on just the perfect teacher for me, Haddon Pereria! Before meeting Miss Haddon for my first session, I was pleased to find a very clean, comfortable space with kind, enthusiastic staff members. Miss Haddon warmly greeted me, and took the time to really listen and analyze how best to address my vocal needs. She used various therapies and techniques to allow my vocal chords to cease staining and become more relaxed. At each session, Miss Haddon asked how my voice felt the week prior, and she always had a new skill to introduce me to. After only 3 sessions, I was able to start singing a song of my choice without pain! Miss Haddon has a passion not only for music, but for her clients overall well-being. Our teacher, Megs was great, but could have explained the process a bit better. She more showed us and had us follow by example, sometimes jumping in and taking over for us when things got out of hand, like our clay being totally off center and wobbling horribly on the electric wheel. We both made two ceramic pieces, but had to pay an additional $10 each to have those fired in the kiln. The $80 we paid covered the one piece we were allowed and the extra $10 was for the additional piece we made that we requested to be fired in the kiln. I didn't like how we couldn't come back and fix up our pieces, like sand it down and glaze it. I was really looking forward to glazing our pieces, but we could only look at a wall full of color choices and write ours down to have it painted by someone else and fired. Full-Circle said they would call us in about a month to come pick it up. It's been a month, and they did just email us to pick up our pieces, showing us a photo of both of ours. Unfortunately, we couldn't pick it up before Hanukkah, and my husband wanted to gift his mom a handmade ceramic piece, but it wasn't done in time. We really like how close the studios is to our home. We could have walked there but left the house late that morning, so we drove. We got lunch at the taco place next door afterwards. We had free street parking that day so it must have been a Sunday. We enjoyed our pottery class and would pay to be members, but it's too expensive, so a single class will do for now.

I've been taking the handbuilding pottery class (as opposed to the wheel throwing class which they also offer). The handbuilding classes are taught by an incredible artist named Rob Homsy who is a patient and fun instructor. There is an assortment of people in his classes - all ages and an array of skills. Some of us are total beginners and others could sell their pottery because it's so great. What I especially love about this class is that Rob doesn't do the thing where "this week we're making wind chimes" and that's what the entire class must do. He definitely teaches us all of the basics and suggests what we may want to build, but he also genuinely supports whoever wants to make a giant cup, or an elephant for a gift, or a planter, or whatever one really has their mind set on. I will never be a great potter but I'm having such fun in the classes and working with many nice people. Classes are on a monthly schedule but you can enroll at any point.
