I am an industry professional in audio, and I took the Beat Lab course in mixing and mastering to improve my Ableton skills, and glean any knowledge of modern techniques in music production. I thought overall, the class was good for the price, and the knowledge base was good, but there are a lot of great on-line courses that do the same thing and I recommend shopping around. I have two issues with the company. 1. There was not one consistent teacher throughout the course, which often meant we were retreading over old ground from the previous session. 2. Once the course was done, I had problems getting anyone to respond to emails I sent asking for more advice. Not one response with multiple emails, which means that their after-sales service is severely lacking. It felt like a take-the-money-and-run situation. read more

I learned a lot taking the course when I first started, but I realize that I'm never going to get the certificate and I'm never going to get feedback about the things I've submitted. I've tried out a few music programs, and even one that has very well known brand in the industry. BeatLab is by far my favorite because it was exactly the type of culture I was looking for: 1) The a-la-carte type structure was perfect. There is no requirement that you have to go through an entire year's worth of curriculum before you can actually take classes that you're most interested in. I unfortunately did not get to take any of the classes that would have most helped me in my previous program because they were scheduled at the end of the year. In order to get there, I would have had to have paid a SIGNIFICANT amount of money each month before I got any technical use out of that program. You don't have that issue at BeatLab. 2) The program managers + instructors are great. Jesse taught the sound design master course and he's a very engaging lecturer. You will definitely learn a lot from him whether you're a beginner or an intermediate in sound design. I had come in to the course with about half a year of involved sound design experience and it was still very useful. 3) Yeuda deserves his own bullet point. This man is a legend. An incredible help all the way. He also runs a hang-out session (virtual during quarantine) on most Sundays and this is a great time to: (a) get feedback on tracks; (b) ask questions about various techniques, plugins, etc (the man knows his stuff); (c) connect with other members in the BeatLab community 4) Liliana is the BeatLab Blog Editor and out of all my experiences with music schools so far, this is the first one that has actually made an explicit effort to let its alumni know they are there to help. The artist/music producer path is a difficult one and this kind of community effort goes a long way. TLDR: Great community. Amazing instructors. No strings attached a-la-carte courses. Constant engagement. Absolutely in budget relative to other overpriced programs. read more

I'm extremely happy to have taken courses at Beat Lab Academy. I've visited, and done courses at other schools in LA, but Beat Lab stands out not only for the quality of the teachers (led by Ableton Certified expert instructor Yeuda, the founder of the school, and Mark Parvizi, co-founder of Team Supreme), but also for the genuine care they show, for the student community that they have built. I'm not the greatest with words but here goes. BeatLab's really the best "school" I've been to. I put school in quotes because it doesn't even feel like it. Yes you learn a ton (Mastering Ableton, Mixing, Songwriting, Theory, Sound Design, etc) and just how to make good music in general. But it really feels like a family here. Everyone here has ambition & drive and it's constantly super inspiring. Every time i walk in here i instantly wanna pop open my laptop and get to work. And when I'm feeling down on my music or feeling demotivated in general, I know there's my homies here are BeatLab willing to help/collaborate/hear my frustrations. And I always try to be there for my friends when they're going through that slump too (which will inevitably happen from time to time). What I'm trying to say is it's really a special place here, the community here is just the best. And don't even get me started about the instructors here. I cannot say enough good things about Beat Lab Academy. I completed the certification program here and have been producing seriously for 1 year. This school is for anyone looking to substantially excel in music production whether you're a complete beginner or an Ableton master. This place is way more then a school, it is a musical lifeline seriously. Yueda is an Ableton wizard and knows the program inside and out. Larry is the bomb! He keeps you updated on basically EVERYTHING that is advantageous toward your career even after you become a graduate. That's what makes Beat Lab different from other programs in the area. If your looking to learn a lot about electronic music production & music in general in a short amount of time. Then Beat Lab Academy might be for you!! Yeuda is an amazing teacher & Beat Lab also hosts a slew of other amazingly talented & Artist/teachers that are constantly touring & breaking the boundaries of creating music with midi & hardware. I myself have been a DJ in the electronic scene since 2001 & felt it was time to take my own production more seriously. I met them through Instagram & after a short courtship, did a drop in class & signed up 2 weeks later! Best thing i did for myself in the past 3 years. Their knowledge of Ableton & the interworking of VST's is invaluable. I'm still learning things even after i graduated from their program. Where do I begin? The running joke among my friends is how long will it take me when I meet a new person to start talking about Beat Lab. So, apologies to my friends, but I talk about it a lot. I took the semester class (levels 1, 2, and 3) and couldn't be more pleased with with the experience. Yeuda, the teacher/co-founder is THE MAN. He knows everything about Ableton and has a way of explaining things that makes complex topics seem simple. Larry (the other co-founder) and Yeuda are always there to help. When I'm at home working on a project and get stuck, I can shoot Yeuda an email, call them up, or pop by get some help. Larry even met me there on a Saturday to let me do some vox recording. They really go above and beyond. Also, when you join Beat Lab you're not just another student, but part of the fam. The community is so supportive, inspiring, and FUN! Larry keeps folks in the loop about what's going on around town, and who has shows. People are always making some sick beats, sharing good grooves and tips, and looking to collab. Also, also, last thing I'll say is that it's great for all levels. I was totally new to Ableton and others had been doing it for five years, but we all learned a ton. I recently moved to LA a little less than a year ago.. I had been Doing for a while and was looking to transition to music production.. I knew that if I wanted to really become a good producer, I'd have to go to a school/program/academy that trained me to be better than the average Joe. After countless hours of research I decided to pick BeatLab. I have to say, it was one of the decisions I've made. I was introduced to like-minded individuals who had a common goal, from all different backgrounds. I took the 3 levels course of Ableton Live and I could say that these guys Rock. everybody from the office to the instructors. They are amazing. They truly care about your learning curve and they show you all the tricks and differents ways to approach the Music production. They always make all kind of workshop and they are always trying to improve the classes with the best in the music industry. I was not treated like family like everybody else that has written a review. Don't get me wrong the teachers have an fair understanding of the digital audio workspace they teach but it seemed to me in my two courses that they didn't really know much about the music industry. Truthfully all the instructors are not professional artists like you would get at a real school. I love Mikey Weiner and Larry though shout out to them but I really wasn't overly impressed with any of their credentials. Oh and also be prepared for Yeuda's thick Israeli accent. read more

Beat Lab Academy is a super well-rounded music production school that equips you with the necessary tools to not only learn the ins and outs of using Ableton, but also how to apply the program in a performance setting, and easily grasp onto music theory tricks and techniques that honestly, in the long run take your production skills to the next level. Really cool that they offer the option to take 3 levels one at a time or all together, and prices were super reasonable given the amount of things you learn throughout this experience. I highly recommend tho, taking all 3 levels as each has extremely helpful tools/materials that you will constantly use once you graduate. Yeuda - head of education and founder of Beat Lab is for sure the spirit of this academy. Hands down one of the brightest, most passionate, but also genuine professors you will encounter. I went to Beat Lab because I felt like I was spending all my time watching endless online tutorials instead of creating. The intensive program provided a space to ask questions whenever I came upon a road block with the software, or with production in general. Being surrounded by teachers who use Ableton professionally, as well as other students eager and willing to take their skills to the next level, gave me the push and confidence I needed to take my craft seriously. I have nothing but great things to say about Beat Lab Academy. I am now finishing up a 4 month, 3 level course and I must say I am very very happy with the outcome. Yeuda Ben-Atar (the founder and head instructor) is an Ableton Genius... no joke. The man knows everything and I mean everything. If you have any type of question about Ableton or music production he has an answer and usually he has multiple answers to your one question. He makes it fun and easy to learn. I went into Ableton, I did not know too much, I took an intro Ableton online class before enrolling into B.L. My first two weeks I learned more then I could ever imagine and I was making beats right off the bat. Today, I feel highly confident and my knowledge of Ableton is top notch, I basically learned another language and I owe it all to B.L. There are also guest instructors that teach throughout the course and they are ALL amazing as well. Also, B.L. gets the best artists to do workshops on the weekend, free to the public btw(just sign up to there newsletter online). The courses cover everything from music theory to mixing and mastering. In multiple classes the desks are arranged in a circle and then everyone gets to jam out in class jam, it is pretty awesome, no other school does anything like this. Whether you are a trained musician or not, everyone has a blast in the jam and learns. I could go on and on, but I highly recommend B.L. If you are unsure, they allow you to sit in a class for free and see for yourself. I found Beat Lab on Yelp and since then have enrolled and finished level 1. Beat Lab turned out to be everything I read it was in the reviews and more. I'm beyond happy with my investment and already see it paying off. Something I really like about their class schedule is that if you miss one of your classes or feel like you need a refresher you can take the class again that same week. So if you are signed up for Monday and Wednesday you can take the Thursday/Friday classes. You can also go into class early for a study hall time. I built relationships with my peers and now have some projects with them since I am mainly a vocalist. Level one goes over music theory. It is a lot of information in a short amount of time but you can access the classes online. Most of them are recorded!! Yeuda also does private tutoring with everyone in the class..... And I've even recorded there with some other students. They do workshops on the weekends. My favorite was the womens workshop with DOT from Team Supreme. I LOVE IT THERE!!!!!!!!!! I'm just finishing up all 3 courses at Beat Lab Academy. When I started I considered myself a novice musician with experience in guitar and some light keyboards.
