I am a non-professional but avid singer. At the time of this writing, I have been attending Piano Bar 101 for more than a year. I'm going to keep doing it because the class not only helps my singing become better, it is simply a very nice group of people with whom to share 90 minutes or so once a week. There are some classmates who are professional-level who are there to polish their craft, and there are others like me who love music and singing, but who aren't going to be giving performances anywhere - except maybe at home in the shower (great acoustics!) and/or at a Karaoke place. The teacher, Ann, is a highly accomplished singer, piano player, and accompanist (being a great piano player does not necessarily mean you can be a great accompanist - she is). She continues to amaze me because I want to sing a very wide variety of songs, several of which we do not have the music for, and/or she has not played before. No matter, she pulls up as little as a chord chart and off we go. Her husband, Geno, is also there to accompany with some background percussion. He is also a very good singer. All of the above is enough reason to attend and polish your own performances, but there are three serious bonuses : Both Ann and Geno just happen to also be very nice people to be around, and the fellow classmates are totally polite and supporting of whatever level of performance you do. The third bonus is that discussions of politics and religion are not part of the experience. The facility is a simple storefront place, 15 or so of us sit around a medium sized room with a piano on folding chairs and stools, it has a restroom, and has a nice sound setup with a microphone. We visit a bit as people show up, then to business. Ann directs us through some basic warmup exercises, do some ear training work, sing some group participation songs from the lyrics book they provide, and then each of us does a solo song at the microphone. The solo is optional, but you should take advantage of it in this safe and successful improvement atmosphere. Just try one of the many in their songbook, or if you already have one you want to start working on, bring sheet music to one you want to try. Or just ask Ann if she can already play what you hope for - she knows many ! I would recommend that you come join us sometime to see if we're the kind of people you want to share some time and your love of singing music with. read more

Mrs. Ann Christensen is an amazing lady! She is so generous, caring, very talented, very fun! And she shares the joy of music with others through coaching, performing, and renting her studio to others like me. I truly enjoy being in her music studio to play piano, sing, record something. I love playing drums so she has electronic drum set in the studio as well and I really appreciate the things she has there. I love the location as well. It's close from the freeway 5 and parking is very easy as well. She replies messages quickly and she has been so helpful and a huge blessing in my art journey. I recommend! I have been renting time on the beautiful Steinway at Christensen Music weekly for a little over a month now and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was looking for a place where I could practice on a real piano as I only have a virtual piano at home and for things like dynamics and tone there is just no substitute for practice on the real thing. Getting set up was extremely simple - Ann was friendly and walked me through everything the first day. Since then she has been very responsive whenever I have reached out. I have really enjoyed having a space to myself for practice. For anyone looking for a studio or practice space, I highly recommend giving Christensen Music a try. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Burbank. Very clean and neat studio, with good acoustics for rehearsals, good quality equipments and recording booth. I have been renting Christensen music for many years for teaching and recording. I love everything about it, the aria is calm and easy to get to, parking is easy. If you need to take a pause in your music endevours (pun intended) there is a little Cafe next door and a walk through the park is a only block away. The studio has a generous live room for recording/teaching and Ann-Louise is just the greatest. I have also very much enjoyed attending Ann-Louise's "Piano Bar"-class, and highly recommend it. Been renting at this studio for almost 2 years and I love it. Perfect place to get away from traffic and woodshed. Great prices, lighting, floors, mirror, piano, vocal booth, fridge, fast wifi. I practice for all kinds of auditions here from opera to funk to acting stuff and sometimes come to just be quiet and lay on the floor and be alone. It's an artistic sanctuary for sure! Ann Louise has been our 12 year old daughter's piano teacher for two years and she has been a miracle worker! She has made music the pleasure and source of joy it should be, rather than the humdrum routine so many teachers make it. As a result our daughter loves her piano lessons, looks forward to them and practices her pieces of her own volition rather than forced and coerced as so many other kids have to be. Ann Louise adapts the pieces to her students' level and always practices positive reinforcement which helps the child see music playing as a source of self esteem. She has also taught our daughter to sight read music with ease and logic which has made it a breeze. I've rented Ann's rehearsal studio several times for my full band rehearsals, and it has been a top-notch experience on every occasion. Ann sets everything up ahead of time, the quality of the gear is excellent (including a beautiful Steinway Grand piano and full drum set), you don't hear anyone else rehearsing next door (as it's a standalone studio), and she has an engineer on-call call in case you need any assistance. The whole experience was super comfortable and super relaxed (which is great b/c the amount of material I tend to pack into these rehearsals is stressful enough :-)). "Piano Bar 101" is a singing class for people who like to sing. Ann Louise is a great teacher with a positive attitude. She teaches you how to be comfortable singing in a group as well as a soloist. You learn about using a microphone, harmonizing, and vocalizing skills.
