Platter: Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, Baked Beans and Mac & Cheese
    Leena S.

I've driven by the Bearded One a countless number of times. We finally decided to stop and pick up a to go order. We ordered a platter, which consisted of Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, Baked Beans and Mac & Cheese. Everything was good, except the Mac & Cheese. There was practically no cheese and the pasta was drive. It's literally located on the side of Route 33 and the food is prepared and served out of a truck. There are some outdoor picnic tables, but everyone was taking their food to go. It may be a nice place to sit in warmer weather, but you are on the road side. Our order was prepared in about 15 minutes, with two people ahead of us.

Appears to be seasonal base camp for their food truck/ catering business. They have multiple mobile commercial smokers, picnic tables with permanent awnings, and parking in the back. Delicious pulled bbq chicken sandwiches and fries.

Finally tried the BBQ food truck I've been meaning to visit, and it was absolutely worth the wait! The brisket tacos were melt-in-your-mouth perfection, packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The loaded fries were a generous portion, piled high with meat, cheese, and salsa--a deliciously indulgent treat. The quality and care in every bite truly stand out. A bit too saucy for my liking and had I known I would have sat at ate at the seating area behind it. Still Highly recommend for any BBQ lover!

If your into smoked bbq meat this is the spot for you, the service is very quick, the hours are limited so you get lucky if they are open and you find a parking spot. My son had a cheeseburger and all I can say is wow it was like a double patty smash burger didn't need anything extra the flavor was perfection. The wings were good too they offer a bbq sauce on the side which I really enjoyed. TBH I thought the burger was better than the wings. I am not an outdoorsy person but if u don't mind a bench and some flies they have a cute little area for you to eat your lunch.

6 Smoked Wings with the best crunch

First off.... I went here alone. Probably a mistake because I am that girl who wants to try it all and doesn't mind sharing. Here's what I got: 6 house smoked wings 2 meat combo platter. I chose ribs and brisket for the meats and beans and Mac and cheese for the sides. Total $ 34.31 The smoked wings were very flavorful. A little salty and VERY crunchy. The smokiness didn't overwhelm the flavor of the wings. I would definitely try these again The ribs were so extremely fall off the bone tender. There isn't one negative thing I can say about them. As far as the brisket goes, I got some charred ends which I was hoping for as well and some hefty slices. Again, tender and mouthwatering. The beans... they were a little too soupy for my liking but that did not distract from them being packed full of flavor. There was some heat to them but nothing overwhelming along with, some bacon and meat throughout and some jalapeño. The Mac & cheese... this was probably the most unexpected surprise out of all of the meal. A little smoky, extreme cheese flavor and the Mac was a tiny bit chewy. Honestly??? Better than I could ever make from scratch and possibly the best I've ever had. Perfection at best. Everything here is made on premises from the coleslaw, mac & cheese, and beans to the meats. The staff was helpful in my decisions on what to get. There's also a place outback to sit down and eat, which is really clean and cute. There was no way I made a dent in any of the meal so, no cooking for me for a couple of days and I'm totally not complaining. As Arnold would say, "I'll be back!"

Great pork rips smoked perfectly- meaty with terrific flavor. Baked beans and Mac cheese were also great compliments for takeout dinner.

The side barbecue sauces on the side were amazing too, the spicy one (I believe was called Diablo sauce?) was maybe the best barbecue sauce I've ever had. We placed the order to - go from GrubHub & food was ready fast, packaged great & even travelled well. Food was still hot and fresh once we ate it. We look forward to becoming returning customers!

The portions for the meats were very big. My husband got ranch beans and sweet potato fries for his sides. While the sides were small for both of us, the sweet potato fries were for a family of 4... HUGE portion. He got at least 2 meals out of it. My sides were the Mac and Cheese which was very cheesy and delicious as well as the tomato cucumber salad. I love a good cucumber salad. Like I said before, those sides were very small. I wish I could have just had a plate of sides. The pickles they give you were also very delicious. I also don't like cornbread which came with our orders and theirs was actually sweet and moist. But like I said, as a person who really does not care for BBQ, a plate of sides would be amazing. We also got the 'Jalapeno Honey' wings which were a good size, but I didn't taste much jalapeno or honey for that matter. They were just kind of mild. My husband loved his meal but he does prefer Big Ed's BBQ in Matawan. Our whole meal was $80 which is quite a lot for no waiter service, just counter. The food was very quick and the service in general was okay. We probably would not be back, but it is worth it to check it out. They had a steady flow of customers throughout the time we were eating there.

Very much worth the wait, and they were so friendly. So delicious the entire wedding party and guests went back for seconds, and felt completely satisfied. The only gripe I have is that I'm not local to the east coast, so I'm limited to only possibly having when I'm visiting! Boo! Meat Line Up: -Pork ribs: literally falling off the bone and delicious! -Chicken: so moist and the chicken skin was crispy. -Homemade Sausage: absolutely divine and could tell it was made with love and care. -Two types of brisket: I've had my share of brisket, and I am not easily impressed. I am a fan of the fattier cut, and IT WAS SO DELICIOUS IT REQUIRES ALL CAPS! Very moist and can tell it was cooked with care. Sides: -Asiago, cheddar and peppercorn Mac and Cheese: This was by far the winner of the dinner for me! The cheese combination was scrumptious and required a second trip to the food table! -Red bliss potato salad: amazing! Can't go wrong with a potato salad and this one had a great slight tang to it. -Baked Beans: a classic and they have a good recipe! -Cornbread: so moist and amazing! -Homemade Pickled Onion: I personally have a onion intolerance, but a friend said they were absolutely amazing! Perfect vinegar flavor and complimented the food. Sauces: -Sweet BBQ sauce: delicious and perfect on the ribs and brisket. -Golden Mustard Sauce: try with the homemade sausage! -Vinegar Pepper Base: the perfect addition to the chicken. If you need catering and like BBQ, pick up the phone and schedule this company!!!

The dining area was bright, clean, and welcoming -- exactly the kind of atmosphere you hope for when sitting down for a good soul food meal. We came in hoping for Whiting, but they were serving Basa instead. The staff assured us that many customers actually prefer it, and after our first bite, we understood why -- it was absolutely delicious! My wife enjoyed the fish dinner while I went with the fish and grits, and both dishes were outstanding. The portions were generous, to say the least. The food was so good that I couldn't leave without ordering extra fish to take home. That says it all! If you're looking for great soul food with a warm atmosphere and hearty portions, Dootsie's Kitchen delivers. We'll definitely be back!

This brings me to Dootsie's Kitchen. My aunt frequents this spot and actually told my mom and I about it last year, but we just never got the chance to check it out. I happened to be in South Brunswick for work and would have to pass by this restaurant getting home if I took the back roads, so I used this as my opportunity to check them out. When I arrived into the restaurant, I was a little confused on how to order at first. However, a guy that I'm assuming is the owner and/or manager came out from the back and asked if I was picking up or placing an order. I told him I would like to place an order but needed a menu. He pointed me to the other side of the counter where the menu is posted. They also have a kiosk ordering system that allows you to place and pay for your order. I ended up ordering two fried whiting platters, one for myself and one for my mom. They make the food fresh after you order, so there was a bit of a wait. I was even asked if I would like my fish fried hard. I said yes, but not too hard. I got my food to go and ate at home. I enjoyed my food. The fish filets were small, but there were at least five pieces in my platter. I requested mac n cheese and cabbage for one platter and collard greens and yams for the other platter. Only problem I had is that I didn't receive cabbage and got collard greens instead. I still enjoyed the greens. My mom thought the greens were too spicy. Personally, I really enjoyed them. The mac n cheese was that real southern mac n cheese. It tasted pretty similar to my mom's mac n cheese. I asked my mom if she liked her food. She said it was "okay" but didn't leave anything behind, so I take that as a good sign. The owner/manager was nice. He kept me updated on the status of my order. When he was bagging up my food, he asked me if it was my first time there and I told him that it was. He asked how I heard about them and I told him. He really seems to care about his business and is very appreciative of those who come to support. The restaurant is not large, but they do have some seating areas if you'd like to dine in. While I was waiting for my food, there was a large group having lunch, approximately 10-12 people. They all seemed to enjoy their food and kept giving compliments as they were heading out. I'm glad I got the chance to check out Dootsie's Kitchen and support a local, black-owned business.
