From the Aldrich Plaza, you will find yourself slipping and sliding towards this ice cream shop…read morewith a lot to offer. Brand: 5/5 Shivers Ice Cream is a family-owned restaurant in operation for 30 years, according to the website. I do like the penguin mascot which perfectly represents the establishment. The slogan "Ice Cream, Cakes, and Fun!" manages to evoke a festive environment that Shivers promises. The shorter the syntax, the more evocative and straight-forward; as any English major would know. I do not know if the canvases of solid colors are meant to represent abstract art, but I can see how it does not conflict with the interior. It does not contrast strongly with the light-colored floor tiles or the walls, but it does not complement them either. The rows of ice cream containers with many flavors entices anyone who looks upon them from behind the glass counter. Website: 3/5 The design of the website looks to have an outdated theme. Also, while it does offer a view of the various cakes with unique designs, it does not have a section dedicated to flavors, despite claiming to offer 30 distinct flavors. Nonetheless, I appreciate the cool blue color that serves as the thematic color of Shivers Ice Cream. Ambiance: 5/5 As expected, the interior felt cold, but not too cold that I wanted to leave immediately. The pop music playing over the radio gave the Shivers Ice Cream establishment a pleasant yet upbeat vibe. While it is a small establishment, it did suit us enough, with its tables having the appropriate width and the chairs not having an uncomfortable feel. Service: 5/5 The staff provided decent service. There is a tip jar for college funds, and I appreciate the transparency of where the money goes. Wait Time: 5/5 Our orders came immediately. Food: 5/5 I ordered the small Snix milkshake. As you can expect, it blends milk, ice cream, and Snickers bits into a milkshake. I can definitely taste the chocolate, caramel, and peanuts that typically come with Snickers. The shake had a well-blended consistency of well-preserved ice cream, which melted easily with every sip. It achieves that creamy texture especially at the top. Worth The Money?: 4/5 While the website does offer a view of the products they have, I would like to see what flavors they can showcase on their website. For an ice cream shop with so much personality, I do not even know what their signature dish is. Perhaps it could be in the form of a new flavor, a milkshake, or an ice cream cookie. The penguin mascot reflects off the chilliness of the establishment and the menu items. I am sure that Coldrich the Penguin (as I would call him as a portmanteau of "cold" and "Aldrich [Plaza]") has a future with this establishment. I would say that I did not waste my time coming here. The price for a small milkshake would have been the same at Dairy Queen, but considering this is a local establishment, I will say that the price is ultimately worth it, though as a second choice (indeed, I would choose Shivers as a first choice if I ever come to Aldrich Plaza again if it is the only ice cream shop there). Rating: 5/5 Stars When it comes to choosing between 4 or 5 stars, I see too much potential in this ice cream shop to give it 4 stars. Recommend To... Anyone who already had something to eat for lunch or dinner in the other local eateries in Aldrich Plaza and want dessert. I also recommend Shivers Ice Cream for the summer for a birthday celebration.

Along the hectic Howell highway, you will find a wondrous respite filled with a child's sense of…read morewonder. Brand: 5/5 Ice Cream on 9 is a small, ice cream shop in Howell Township, and has been in operation for close to 20 years now. The name has a simple, homey charm. The brand works with this establishment, for the bright, vibrant colors bring joy to everyone along the highway. Inside, the interior completely outweighs the exterior with its bright colors, but also the bright flashing lights. Website: 3/5 While I do appreciate the vibrant colors that drizzle upon the website, I have to maintain honesty when it comes to the outdated theme, which can make the website easily susceptible to cyberattacks. Nonetheless, I do enjoy see the header image of the establishment's front view welcoming anyone into the website. Ambiance: 5/5 The bright flashing lights come mainly from the arcade section, which can be helpful if you wish to avoid bright lights. The opaque tiles complement the bright colors well. A line of freezers have options of cakes and ice cream dishes. Despite this, the establishment is quite warm, which definitely helped acclimate us since the cold rain intruded upon us upon entering. To say that the establishment has enough space is an understatement, for the large space contains many well-spaced tables. Service: 5/5 The owner clearly cares about the establishment, even when it has an empty dining area, for the lights and the menu items are always cared for. Wait Time: 5/5 No interruptions or issues arose during our wait. Food: 5/5 Every menu item has its own personality, even the classics, with 100+ options to choose from. I ordered the small Coffee-Toffee shake, which definitely had the uniquely combined flavor of roasted coffee and sweet toffee. The form held well-enough, since it initially had a hard form to begin with, it slowly started to melt as I mashed it around with my straw. This suggests to me that the well-cared-for ice cream does not accumulate icicles or freezer burn. Worth The Money?: 5/5 The website does encourage people to submit their new ice cream flavor ideas, which suggests that the menu items have a democratized element to them. I myself took the opportunity to suggest a Howell flavor, after the Howell Township. Its flavor is a combination of apple (after the apple seen in the Howell Township seal) and maple (after the red maple trees endemic to Howell Township). I love it when menu items are named after the locations they are served in, and I would be very curious as to how the Howell ice cream shake would taste like. In addition to my new flavor suggestion, I also suggest updating the website to make it more competitive within the ever-shifting algorithm. Concerning the Coffee-Toffee, I always noticed how the the two words rhymed, but never had an opportunity to taste it until today. I can say that if Ice Cream on 9 manages to accomplish this feat, then it can accomplish many unique flavors. The warm interior managed to melt the shake quickly enough for me to enjoy it, and the service definitely helps you with the rows of glass counters showing the many flavors. My Coffee-Toffee shake had the appropriate amount of preparation for the wait time. The ambiance was perfectly captured by the website images, with great establishing shots that prepare you for fun and festivity. The bright flashing lights and the arcade section truly enliven the brand. My philosophy with local eateries is that if they wish to appeal to multiple generations, then they should always maintain that child's sense of wonder, that adult's sense of pragmatism, and that elder's sense of wisdom. In the case of Ice Cream on 9, they managed to encapsulate that child-wonder with their ambiance and brand. The jovial disposition of the owner matches the ambiance perfectly, and the wait time never felt tedious. I would absolutely consider Ice Cream on 9 my first choice when looking for a unique flavor, and the price of the shake was definitely worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars If Ice Cream on 9 could stay in operation for close to 20 years, then I hope that its relevance will evolve with it. Recommend To... Anyone looking for a catering event of any kind, since the space will suffice you and there are plenty of flavors to choose from.

My daughter wanted to eat some bubblegum before going home and we sat down for 5 minutes. The owner rudely came to me and said "you shouldn't eat the tubs in store or all customers will do the same" and then walked away. I was floored. I should I have said "You should I hope that every customer ate tubs of ice cream and you'd make more money" Very rude and and now made our decision to go to Shivers in Howell or maybe Jersey Freeze. Like really, what was the point of saying that? UPDATE: I have been expressing dissatisfaction with a number of friends who had similar experience. Thus, this business now losing real sales and customers. FYI- I don't post bad reviews usually but this pissed me off.

I…read moregot the chance and I will say that the food perfectly represents the concept of friendship. Brand: 5/5 Nagoya is a Japanese restaurant located in Friendship Plaza in Howell Township. I do like the brush stroke of the logo, which shows well on the entrance sign and the leather-bound menu. Website: 3/5 I do like the first impressions that Nagoya's website gives you, with an image of the sushi and an option to select "Pick Up and Delivery," which leads you to their usage of the app MenuSifu. The gallery of images of the food do provide a glimpse into the establishment's cuisine. While a couple of the menu items had images, most of them did not. It should be noted that Nagoya has unusual time lapses in terms of when they are open or closed, which the Yelp description provides a better format for explaining it than the website does. Wait Time: 5/5 I experienced no delays or disruptions during the wait time. Ambiance: 5/5 This Japanese restaurant has the unique ambiance of having multicolored lights shown upon the glass walls, while the dimmed lights gave the interior a cool vibe. This includes the dark color of the tables and the seats, all of which felt comfortable. I can clearly see how this establishment would be used for celebrations. The well-spaced tables percolated throughout the large space. The music showcased Japanese Christmas songs throughout the establishment. Food: 4/5 I ordered the Alaskan Roll, which consists of salmon, cucumber, and avocado. The vegetables gave the special roll its sharp, distinct taste. Clearly, I can see how Alaska would have a major theme in the roll with the presence of salmon. The rice and the nori sheet did not stay, and the sushi rolls did fall apart, though I did think that the rice and the other ingredients had good texture. Service: 5/5 The staff managed to provide my order without any issues. Worth The Money?: 5/5 The Alaskan Roll perfectly represents the brand of Nagoya, as among its selection of unique sushi rolls. I personally suggest creating a more unique rolls, for I would be curious as to what they would taste like. Indeed, the website provides you with many other selections of Japanese cuisine. You can also expect to find your sushi roll well-tended despite the nori sheet and the wait time it took to make them. Throughout my meal, the ambiance greatly matched the experience. The service matched the food well, since the meal had the sushi roll, the wasabi, and the yellowtail available. Concerning the first impressions of Nagoya, I definitely did not expect the establishment to have the more upbeat ambiance compared to other Japanese restaurants I went to. I will say that it did give me a new experience, despite the website's presentation. As such, the ambiance never once tried my patience while awaiting my order. I can see how the staff managed to keep the establishment cared for. I will say that the Alaskan Roll and the experience overall managed to match the price and make it worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars With an establishment like Nagoya, I see plenty of hope for improvement and it will continue to represent Friendship Plaza pleasantly. I would definitely consider Nagoya my second choice when searching for Japanese restaurants in the Howell Township area. Recommend To... Anyone wandering around the large Friendship Plaza if they go to the Shoprite there if they are looking to try Japanese cuisine.
