Let's get the elephant out of the room first…read more Ambience: Non-existent. Interior looks bare. It has a few seating. This is not a spot for a romantic date. We got takeout and were very satisfied. Food: I've had Egyptian before in NYC and I liked this much more. Here's what we ordered: Dolmas (stuffed grapeleaves). They were served hot. Never had them hot and I was surprised by how much I liked them. The stuffing was soft inside with a hint of sourness. Completely different from the typical cold pickled versions we had. I usually have 2-3 pieces but this time we ate the whole pound of it. Stuffed Cornish hen. This order takes a while, so order ahead. At first, we were not impressed by the meat. Not bad, very moist and meat fell off the bone. But, then we ate it with the stuffed rice. Rich umami. All the flavor went into the rice. Very rich flavor and together it was delicious. I would add hot sauce to the mix. Chicken kabob. All breast meat. Decent portion. It was not dry and very well spiced. My in-laws loved it. I'm not a fan of white meat but recognize that it was done well. Stuffed eggplant. Indian eggplant. Also hot version. Firm exterior, soft interior. Cuts through really well to share. Definitely like it more than the cold appetizer i've had elsewhere. More on the milder side so other dishes tasted better. Biftek (fried breaded thin steak). Fried very well. Didn't get soggy in the container so the kitchen knew to let it cool and stay crispy. Nothing bad but also not special. Many different cuisine does the same thing. Needs a dip. I would order it again and I imagine kids with a tunnel vision palate would like it too because it's like chicken nugget and french fries to them. Meat shawarma. This was disappointing. It's not bad but boring compared to all the other dishes. It's pretty much meat over rice but since I come from the city, it doesn't stack up against the lamb/chicken over rice from halal carts. It was a little dry and came with tahini (hummus based). Pretty sure this version is more authentic but I'm biased to the lamb over rice covered in white sauce. If you never had Egyptian before, it's in between Mediterranean and Middle Eastern because it is both but at the same time different enough to be its own category. There's a Greek restaurant in the same plaza and I would say the fare is completely different although their dishes overlap in the menu. They are not comparable. Verdict: We ordered more food the very next day. Until we try other restaurants in the area, this is currently my favorite Egyptian restaurant.

The dining area was bright, clean, and welcoming -- exactly the kind of atmosphere you hope for when sitting down for a good soul food meal. We came in hoping for Whiting, but they were serving Basa instead. The staff assured us that many customers actually prefer it, and after our first bite, we understood why -- it was absolutely delicious! My wife enjoyed the fish dinner while I went with the fish and grits, and both dishes were outstanding. The portions were generous, to say the least. The food was so good that I couldn't leave without ordering extra fish to take home. That says it all! If you're looking for great soul food with a warm atmosphere and hearty portions, Dootsie's Kitchen delivers. We'll definitely be back!

This brings me to Dootsie's Kitchen. My aunt frequents this spot and actually told my mom and I about it last year, but we just never got the chance to check it out. I happened to be in South Brunswick for work and would have to pass by this restaurant getting home if I took the back roads, so I used this as my opportunity to check them out. When I arrived into the restaurant, I was a little confused on how to order at first. However, a guy that I'm assuming is the owner and/or manager came out from the back and asked if I was picking up or placing an order. I told him I would like to place an order but needed a menu. He pointed me to the other side of the counter where the menu is posted. They also have a kiosk ordering system that allows you to place and pay for your order. I ended up ordering two fried whiting platters, one for myself and one for my mom. They make the food fresh after you order, so there was a bit of a wait. I was even asked if I would like my fish fried hard. I said yes, but not too hard. I got my food to go and ate at home. I enjoyed my food. The fish filets were small, but there were at least five pieces in my platter. I requested mac n cheese and cabbage for one platter and collard greens and yams for the other platter. Only problem I had is that I didn't receive cabbage and got collard greens instead. I still enjoyed the greens. My mom thought the greens were too spicy. Personally, I really enjoyed them. The mac n cheese was that real southern mac n cheese. It tasted pretty similar to my mom's mac n cheese. I asked my mom if she liked her food. She said it was "okay" but didn't leave anything behind, so I take that as a good sign. The owner/manager was nice. He kept me updated on the status of my order. When he was bagging up my food, he asked me if it was my first time there and I told him that it was. He asked how I heard about them and I told him. He really seems to care about his business and is very appreciative of those who come to support. The restaurant is not large, but they do have some seating areas if you'd like to dine in. While I was waiting for my food, there was a large group having lunch, approximately 10-12 people. They all seemed to enjoy their food and kept giving compliments as they were heading out. I'm glad I got the chance to check out Dootsie's Kitchen and support a local, black-owned business.

The restaurant is not lacking for seating either. They have a big bar, a spacious outdoor patio, and plenty of seating in the dining room. I went with a group of 5 guys to watch the UFC PPV and we were easily accommodated. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. We ordered 20 wings, which were quite good. The chicken was tender and fresh, with plenty of sauce. The buffalo chicken dip had a custom flare that made for a tasty scoop with each chip. The nashville chicken sandwich, however, was underwhelming. The sauce was too heavily seasoned with chili powder and that's about all you could taste. Also, my sweet potatoes fries were soggy (to be fair, they're harder to get right than a classic fry). I think next time I'll stick to apps and drinks, but that works for a spots bar like Aroogas.

I can see this place being packed on game days as there are TV's everywhere even in the bathrooms which I thought was funny haha. Unfortunately, we couldn't sit on the patio since it was rainy when we came here. I got the chicken fajitas and them came out on a sizzling plate which was a nice touch. The chicken wasn't anything to write home about. It had a nice grill flavor but other than that not much depth. The cheese was just shredded cheese from a bag and it seemed like the salsa was from a jar. My husband got old bay wings which he loves. He said they had the perfect amount of old bay on them as many places usually skimp on the seasoning. I would come back again if we were meeting up with friends to watch a game but probably not just for dinner.

In the past, I had two separate bank cards compromised after using them for gas at Wawa, and both of my banks had to shut my cards down and issue replacements. That alone raised serious concerns. Recently, things have gotten worse with how they handle payments at the pump. Since they now require prepay, attendants take your card and walk away with it, which is already uncomfortable. During the winter, one employee took my card and didn't return it. When I asked for it, he claimed he already gave it back--but it was actually in his pocket. When I questioned why my card was in his pocket, all he could say was "sorry." Management said they would handle it, but clearly nothing has changed. Today was the final straw. I asked for $25 in gas, which I do almost every day. The attendant charged my card $30 instead. The pump stopped at $24.31, but my bank account shows a full $30 charge. When I questioned it, the attendant dismissed me and said I was "done." I had to go inside to speak with a manager, who told me I would have to wait and come back if the difference isn't refunded. This is unacceptable. Customers should not have to worry about: * Employees mishandling or pocketing their cards * Being overcharged without explanation * Being treated rudely when asking legitimate questions * Having to chase down their own money after being overcharged Between the card security issues and the lack of accountability from staff and management, I do not trust this location. I strongly advise others to be cautious when using their cards here. Wawa needs to seriously address how transactions are handled at the pump and properly train their employees before more customers are affected.
