It has been years since I've had Beard Papa's and my bf and I were having lunch across the street so after we did some shopping, we stopped by to grab a few since they had some really interesting flavors! Super quiet inside, no music, there was like one worker and really difficult to hear her with her mask on but I get it. We ordered a box of 6 different flavors (chocolate, Sakura matcha, original, Dubai, honey butter, Creme de Leche) and so far everything is delish!! The honey butter is probably my favorite so far. Parking is rough around here, lot is small so I recommend finding metered street parking. Prices are great and they last a while refrigerated! Good stuff and definitely need to come by more often. This is a small place that I had never heard about but my friends are big fans of their pastries. There are several tantalizing looking flavors as I love a good cream puff. I ordered the chocolate with the chocolate cream and the cookies and cream with vanilla cream. I enjoyed the chocolate one more because I love chocolate so much, but also, it wasn't too sweet. It really helps to savor the flavor more when you aren't cringing by a thick sugary flavor that almost stings your teeth and throat. The cookies and cream coating on the cookies and cream one was okay, but it could have used more Oreo crumbles/flavor. These are a bit messy to eat because the cream goes everywhere, but I do want to go back for all of their chocolate varieties.

Our last visit to Bear Papa was better compared to the time before that. The cream puffs tasted better and were not as stale, perhaps due to the time of day. There's a wide selection of cream puffs and a few desserts such as chocolate fondant cake and Japanese cheesecake. For the cream puffs, you start off by selecting your shell (original cream puff or eclair (which are cream puffs with glaze on top). Depending on the season, eclairs can include chocolate, green tea, strawberry, oreo cookie, churro, honey butter, s/mores, or ube :). You'll then choose a filling (choices of vanilla, green tea, and chocolate, seasonal Vietnamese coffee) which they inject into the shells upon order (you can choose a different filling for each shell). There are a few stool seating by the windows.
What We Ordered: -Original Shell $4.75 We've been wanting to try Beard Papa for awhile. However, we've never got around to it. We had some time to kill as we were waiting for our table to be called at Kura. I asked the staff member on what she recommends and she told me that the orginal shell with vanilla creme was a popular pick. I was offered powdered sugar on top and of course went with that option. We all shared the creme puff as we didn't want to spoil our appetite before lunch. We all liked it a lot! We would definitely come back to Beard Papa to try other Creme Puffs in the future.
This place doesn't disappoint! I went in to get just the basic vanilla cream puff, but ended up with the Dubai Chocolate Puff with chocolate custard inside when I saw the signs promoting it. Thank goodness I tried it as it was delicious! I can't recommend it enough. It was perfect! The staff was attentive and quick to get my order completed too even though they were quite busy. Inside was clean and extremely tidy too!
There's only 3 components for the original; cream, a shell, and powdered sugar... I feel bad for complaining about this but this is the 4th time I've ordered an original and it was missing either the powdered sugar or the cream. I don't understand why I'm paying full price for something and consistently receiving only 2/3rds of what I'm paying for. If I knew I was going to get an original with no powdered sugar I would NOT have purchased this.

Cream puffs aren't too high on my list of preferred desserts. But if I'm getting dinner in Sawtelle, I'll make a quick trip to Beard Papa's afterwards. This popular bakery is in the plaza with Nijiya, Kura, and Daiso. There's a small surface lot and an underground garage with additional spaces. One hour free with validation. First you choose your shell. Either a plain one with nothing on top, or an eclair with icing (chocolate, strawberry, green tea, Oreo, honey butter, s'more, churro). Then you choose a filling (chocolate, green tea, vanilla, ice cream). Occasionally they'll introduce special flavors and special collaborations. The choux pastry that holds everything together is light and slightly crisp. An ideal vessel to deliver the soft burst of velvety custard. Quality and consistency of the filling has gone down over the years but it's still a sweet treat. Besides their signature cream puffs, they also have mini puffs, mini eclairs, and other select desserts and beverages. You can also buy the custard separately if you just want a cup of that. They used to sell food and other pastries but the menu has been simplified over the years. Won't go out of my way for them, especially this location. But I'll gladly take one if offered!

Absolutely obsessed. The Dubai chocolate cream puff is unreal crisp, airy shell with a rich, silky chocolate cream that's perfectly balanced (not overly sweet). You can taste the quality in every bite. Fresh, indulgent, and totally worth the hype. If you're a chocolate lover, this one's a must. I'd go back just for this puff alone.
I came here with a friend on a weekday afternoon, and there were plenty of customers coming in and out of the shop. There were many interesting flavors I have not noticed before, such as Dulce de Leche and Strawberry Matcha, but I opted for the original with mint oreo filling. The original puff had a great crispy texture on the outside, while the mint oreo on the inside was not too sweet and complemented the shell well. read more
Popped into Beard Papa's after having a late lunch at Kura Nextdoor. We usually get a sweet treat there, but decided to try something different and I am glad we did! The concept of the restaurant written on the wall is really cute, and the bright yellow space is fun and inviting. We had already stuffed ourselves on sushi and didn't have much space left for the sweet treat, so we just got one to split (cookie batter won out) but I love that you can basically build your own puff combo. I also love that the filling was cold and just lightly sweet, while the topping on the outside of the puff was a touch sweeter. We thought it was the perfect balance and we both spontaneously landed on the word "refreshing" to describe it. We will definitely be popping back in after Kura next time. read more
Beard Papa's is my childhood. I really hope this location never closes down. For years, they consistently put out yummy cream puffs. Highly recommend the matcha flavored puffs! This location does not have indoor seating. You order at the counter and take it to go. Paid parking lot or residential parking. read more

Love the larger cream puff eclairs; especially when you do a pick up order: the vanilla filling is filled with a cooled filling; while the croissant on the outside remains at the most delicate texture. -not a fan of the mini eclair cream puffs. -Plenty of free parking read more

Over priced for cream puffs but it hits the stop. Place is clean, came here late night before closed and not all flavors were available but manage to get what I wanted. Service is fast but not worth tipping for overpriced cream puffs. read more

Beard Papa's makes the BEST cream puffs. It's so simple, yet soo good! After dinner on Sawtelle, I love coming to this cute little pastry shop for dessert. My favorite combo so far has been the honey butter shell stuffed with the classic vanilla custard. Service is quick, perfect for immediate satisfaction. The crisp shell and creamy filling disappear within seconds, heh. I've been wanting to try the green tea custard, but they always run out by the time I get there. Maybe I'll have better luck next time! read more
I was in the mood for something sweet, so I was thankful to have come across this dessert spot. I ended up choosing to get a Chocolate Éclair with Chocolate Filling and it was delectable. One of my favorite things is chocolate and the fact that this treat kept me awake and energized during my drive made it the perfect pastry on the way home. March 1st, 2025 @ 7:00pm I was meeting up with a friend here who lived about an hour away and just as he was about to arrive, the worker kicked us out because we were "taking the seat of paying customers". It was incredibly rude as we let the employee know that our friend was about to arrive and we would be happy to make a purchase now as it was dark outside and we didn't want to wait in the cold. The employee said No to us making a purchase because the other customers already paid first. We didn't know it was a new rule and that's not usually how it works at all. It was strange because there were enough seats for the other customers. I asked if the customer next to us wanted to take my seat and they declined. Ultimately we decided to go to Midoh Kitchen and Sweets which is a couple of doors down, we noticed there were no customers inside. Incredibly unfortunate. read more
First of all, I didn't know that a Cream Puff Store was an actual thing. (It is.) Secondly, I couldn't have imagined how good a cream puff could be. (It's insanely good.) We ordered a taste - a little one each - and, boy, was it good. Pick your shell. Pick your filling. Enjoy your Cream Puff. Probably doesn't matter which filling or shell you get as they're all made fresh on the premises - right before your eyes. Doughy, soft and flavor-packed. I swear I'm never using the turn-of-phrase "cream puff" as an insult again...it deserves way more respect thanks to Beard Papa's. read more

Pros: In a fun area, Little Japan * next to Kura revolving Sushi and Nigiya Market. *They have Churro flavored puffs CONS: not the friendliest employees. They always seem bored, not happy. *Crowded parking! I love the puffs with a passion but customer service could improve greatly! read more
I went to the the Sawtelle location of Beard Papa for a Yelp Community Event. The staff was friendly and cheerful which matched the bright yellow interior. They were also very helpful when it came to picking out which cream puffs I wanted to get. The cases were filled with stacks of cream puff shells and the puffs were filled to order. We got a churro shell with chocolate and a matcha regular shell. Can't wait to go back! read more

Came here for dessert after lunch. I got the mini eclair with vanilla filling. It's such a light and delicious dessert and I regretted not getting more than one. The inside is cleans and the service was super quick. I will be back to try additional ones. read more

Located in the heart of Sawtelle, Beard Papa's is a great spot for post lunch dessert! The eclairs are fresh and yummy! You get an pastry and a filling option. I got a cream filled chocolate eclair and a strawberry cream filled strawberry glazed eclair. Plain, powdered or green tea are other eclair options with additional filling choices such as chocolate. Clean, good service! read more
Choux a la crème! IYKYK. First time back since covid. I love the crème filled Choux Pastry. This is not your typical American crème puff. Beard Papa is a Japanese chain that specializes i Choux a la crème (French Crème Puff). They have many variations on the pastry and rthe type of Crème but my favorite was always the Paris Brest with the Vanilla Crème which is no longer on the menu. I settled for my second favorite "The Original" with some Iced Coffee made with Pour Over coffee. It was good just like I remember it. A simple, sweet, and tasty dessert. Putain! read more

We were upstairs eating Korean corn dogs and spotted this place on the ground floor! When we came in, there were only two people ahead of us. Can't sit in here. Probably a Covid protocol. No issue to us since we were walking around a bunch! We got an original cream puff with Vietnamese coffee cream inside and a matcha one with vanilla cream. Wow! Just a wonderfully tasty thing to eat! It's not overly sweet at all, which is perfect! These aren't large, but it's kind of a lot for one person imo. I don't eat sweets often, so I was glad to share with 3 others. They weren't overly expensive either. Definitely a nice treat! read more
The Cookies 'n Cream cream puff I had was good but very sweet; I liked how it was topped with melted Hershey's white chocolate and crumbled Oreo cookies. It pairs well with the plain cream filling, which was simple and not too sweet. What stood out to me was actually the service; it wasn't good. There were 8 customers who showed up and none of us were greeted/welcomed. Me and my friends were the first to appear at this particular time, and the guy cashier had his back turned to the door. He was putting something away or packaging an order. It took a few minutes for him to finish up what he was doing, not once did he say he'd be right with us. Even after he turned around to assist me, he did not greet or welcome any of the other customers who walked through the door. read more
Not much to say, but Beard Papa is a great little cream puff pastry restaurant in a small shopping Center in the Sawtelle area. They have an assortment of difference types and flavors of the cream puff themselves and you can select between a cream filling or ice cream. We ended up going with the plain puff and ice cream filling, which was a large portion and delicious. The puff was airy with a toasty exterior. The other puff options are a little out there, but the variety of selections would make for a great treat for events. They have deals if you order a dozen or larger quantity orders and they even have a loyalty stamp card program for frequent visitors. The parking is a little chaotic, but it's a ticketed lot with an attendant and there is underground parking. I believe there's a $10 spend minimum for the parking to be validated, which I imagine isn't that hard at any of the stores located in the center. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. The only observation was that a lot of the indoor dining area was not set up when we went around midday. I don't know if this is typical, but we took our good to go, so it wasn't a big deal. read more
Sooooo YUM!!! This is the best cream puff in the world! I love cream puffs and can be very picky! I love the filling, the flavor and texture. These are big pieces so enjoy! Ordered: Strawberry, Chocolate, Green Tea, Cookies and Cream, OG Small spot, but you can eat these anywhere you fancy! Such a great gift to bring for gatherings and parties! read more

When do they have the chocolate filling? I don't see it anymore whenever I pass by.
I think they only have the cookies and cream as kind of "chocolate" filling. When I was there, that only had vanilla, matcha and cookies and cream.
