Want good cream puffs? Want good flavored cream puffs? Want good flavored cream puffs that you'll get addicted to? Then come on down to Beard Papa's located inside the Pacific Square Marukai! They have flavors of regular cream, chocolate, AND strawberry! All of them are reallllly good! There's also the choice of the hard chocolate covered cream puff :) Don't hesitate on it now! read more

Who likes humongo objects overloaded with milky cream? Me! But not in the form of beard papa! ick! Too much cream. Never thought you'd hear me say it but enough is enough man! The only way I can eat one of these is to open it up and dip strawberries in the cream. Any other way is just disgusting. read more

Really good cream puffs, especially for a small location and kind of slow business. I was worried that the cream puffs wouldn't be fresh because it was relatively empty today but I WAS WRONG. The puff was extremely fluffy with just the right amount of crunch. It was filled right in front of me and wasn't soggy when I ate it 20 min later. It tastes exactly like any other Beard Papa's cream puff I've had before, which in the case of chain stores is a good thing. The worker used proper sanitation techniques, like washing hands, using plastic gloves, no cross contamination, etc. I was very impressed. read more

I'm still comparing BP's cream puffs from Shirokiya (Ala Moana Center Honolulu) to the ones I've been sampling here and again, these just do not compare. For some reason, the cream puff part here is softer and denser than the ones in Hawaii. I have no idea why. They were okay, just not fantastic. read more

Man, I thought I was the only one who knew. OK So there's a bunch of us. The chocolate cream puff is basically to die for. The chocolate is kinda like that coating on a Tasty Freeze, except triple the thickness. It's really heavenly. Be very careful. You can get addicted. This is bakery crack, man. So if you would have asked me, before yesterday, what I think of cream puffs, I would have absolutely no idea. It was basically a metaphor for people who are pushovers. Now, a whole new world has opened up. Well, not really. I need to close this world before I gain a world of pounds. But I've had a peek, and I'll never be the same. Therefore I bestow the highest honor of five stars, because Beard Papa has taught me something I didn't know about food. There it is. read more

Ahh, those little cream puff balls of sin, How can I resist?! Beard Papa continues to be a household name when it comes to delicious cream puffs, and this location is no exception. They have different flavor toppings every day, so make a mental note to go on the days your favorites are being served and hoard them like crazy! This location closes rather early.. Probably so that you'd run from the parking lot, burning some of those calories these puffs have placed in your belly! read more

I'm not big on sweets or desserts (I know, what's wrong with me?)... But these cream puffs! Wow... I got a single coffee-flavored one (I figured it wouldn't be as sweet). It was mocha-licious. I almost choked a couple times cuz I would breathe in the powdered sugar and it would scratch my throat... So be careful. Or maybe it's just cuz I'm a novice? I keep wanting to call this place "Papa Beard's" as opposed to "Beard Papa's". Anyway, I need to try the rest of the flavors since I hear so much about how great they are. But the coffee flavor was on blast ;) read more

Best cream puffs in my opinion, especially since this is all they make! I know there are other bakeries that offer cream puffs, which are also quite good, but I love that Beard Papa only specializes in cream puffs. Because of this they offer a variety of flavors from original, chocolate, strawberry, and green tea! My personal favorites are the original and green tea....SOOO GOOOD!!! I know they are a bit on the pricey end, but if you order in pairs of 6, you get a small discount. *Usually I purchase the puffs for events, parties or as gifts, so I always call ahead to order and the owner will have them prepared for you in advance to pick up! read more

I can never refuse cream puffs... The original is great on its own, but the eclair... Damn! I love the chocolate on top with vanilla/strawberry filling. The vanilla is the perfect sweetness and the strawberry filling tastes like the shakes I used to make myself as a kid with only strawberries, milk, sugar, and ice. read more

This review is strictly for this location only!! I've had Beard Papa at several of the other locations and they have all been great. I came to this specific location on a Monday afternoon, there was only one man working. He was in the back washing bowls or something. I stood at the front patiently waiting, thinking he saw me. However, after about 2-3 minutes I realized he probably didn't and called out a "hello?"....nothing. I said it a little louder....nothing. I said it louder and waved my hands around to get his attention. He finally noticed me (it had maybe been 10 minutes at this point). I got a dozen of original. I get home and not a single one tasted like it was fresh. The shell tasted incredibly stale. I don't think I would ever come back to this location again. read more

I scream like a woman when my boss brings this into work for everyone....I mean, I don't do that. Located inside the Marukai Japanese market, I once got there 2 minutes before the shop closed and bought off the last bag the manager of the shop was probably taking home to his sick child. Oh well, you never should have gotten sick, imaginary shop owner's child. Is it crack? Not even close, just cream puffs filled with wonderful cream custard. Although I do question the addictiveness of the white powder on top. You have a place in my heart, Beard Papa....or should I just call you Papa, you wonderful bearded man. read more

I remember looking for this particular location and not being able to find it because I didn't know it was located INSIDE the Marukai. Then over the weekend, we were across the street at Spoon House for dinner and decided to do some light grocery shopping. Lo and behold, there was the Beard Papa's!! Like finding money in your coat pocket!! I showed some restraint and only ordered one for myself. The boyfriend got one each of the regular and the eclair. I had mine that night then asked for one of his the next night. Ooops! They were so good, how could I eat just one!? I think what makes Beard Papa's puff stand out is the creamy goodness on the inside. It's just the right consistency of creaminess (not to thick, not to runny); it's not too sweet and I love the fresh taste of vanilla. Lucky for me, we went to have dinner in Gardena last night with the boyfriend's family so we were able to stop by again to get more. I have a cream puff waiting for me at home and I am dying to get my hands on it!! read more

Totally didn't realize this place was inside Marukai Pacific Market, but you know, it's still delicious. Unlike other Beard Papas that i've had, this one was really creamy and the puff wasn't as dry. the owner is also very friendly! i'm so glad i was able to go with a friend right before they were about to close it. STRAWBERRY IS SO YUMMY. the market also has a really cute little area where you can sit (inside where it's warm!). FYI, it's CASH ONLY. read more

WORST BEARD PAPA!!!!!!!!! Not sure how they operate this store though. The girl/lady works on weekends is the WORST server we ever seen. She took 30~40 minutes to take care of 1 person's order (who only ordered 1.5 dozen,,and we were next) and finally we got our 4 pcs orders. (2 original,, 2 eclair) Guess what,,, we got all different kinds of flavors in 4 orders. (chocolate, strawberry, etc, etc) WE WANTED ORIGINAL CREAM!!! and,,, the cream inside?? not even a Half FILLED!!!.. Wasted 45 minutes and money.. NEVER COME BACK HERE! read more

Beard Papa cream puffs have quite the following. Located in the Marukai Market, Beard Papa is a little station that sells cream puffs (and very big ones at that). They have assorted flavors including original (vanilla), chocolate, and green tea. I had the vanilla. It was good; lots of cream--it tasted like any other cream puff though. I liked it, but I wouldn't make a special trip to get one. read more

THINK ORGASM in your mouth and nose! the kind of best orgasm ever that leaves you paralyzed [or just your face with a smile but not in a bad way like botox] and weak.. every bite.. every wift.. ::droool:: this has changed my opinion of cream puffs, at first I was "ehh, cream puff.. whatever i want some pastry, i guess i'll eat a couple" not a big fan.. but THIS.. OOOOOH MYYYYY wow.. changed my life.. i am now in love with cream puffs.. haha just kidding.. still don't like them.. but I sure do LOVE THESE! they aren't any cream puff.. they are ORGASMIC! they will be worth every penny [i lose] and pound [i gain] read more

YUM! I didn't know what the big deal was until I tried them. The crispy pastry puff is the best part of Beard Papa's Cream Puffs. These pastries come filled with a light custard like filling, not like the whipped cream filling that you might have tried in other cream puffs. The chubster that I am, I had to try all three flavors available that day (vanilla, chocolate, and green tea). The winner was Vanilla! Chocolate was a little strong and Green Tea was too strong. Strawberry might be a good flavor if they'd ever include it into their rotation. read more

YUMMMMMMMMMM!!! LOL i had to add the exclamation points to emphasize that there cream puff are good. I like going here and enjoying their awesome desserts, as well as getting a chance to shop around the market while i'm here. This particular location is located inside of a market and the first time i went i was lost cause i saw the address but i wasn't sure if it was wrong since it doesn't say the name in the Plaza sign. Aside for that little problem the only thing i didnt like about this location was the fact that it doesn't take credit. I mean in this day and age who doesn't take credit its like they think i'm gonna buy a million cream puffs and cancel my credit card haha. I'm a fan though and i would go back, they have good desserts that are definetly worth a try alteast once. read more

I ate my first Beard Papa cream puff in Japan and was hooked. When they arrived in Gardena I was thrilled. These cream puffs taste great! I've given them to friends and family and all of them loved them. My office building manager just told me she sought out Beard Papa to give her relative that was visiting from Italy! These cream puffs are tops but I wonder how many calories in one? They offer custard and some times other flavors such as chocolate, strawberry, green tea. A bit pricey though. read more

Cream puffs. The thought of such delicious pastries with cool creamy custard falling out in every directions as I take a bite, well it can be a very heavenly experience. If you need need to gain a few pounds and want to enjoy it through every bite, then get your soon-to-be big butt over to Papa Beards! I had the vanilla and green tea, which was good I preferred the vanilla. These are some pretty good cream puffs, only second in the area to those at Chantilly in Lomita, but these are bigger and a less pricier. There wasn't a line, but they weren't warm as some yelpers described, I wish I knew when they came out hot out of the oven. Also, a yelper incorrectly said that they were prefilled....The guy put the cream in after I ordered them, right in front of me so that was not the case. read more

Missed the feeling of buying em at ala moana.....but they were still da kine!! Mmmmmmmmmm!!! They are popular for their cream puffs..but also get good eclairs. The cream puffs are good to us ...because...they are not sooooooo....sweet!!! Most bakeries make em with sweet like frosting...ack!! These are the best! I've tried the regular (vanilla), chocolate, strawberry, green tea, caramel, mocha... and my favorites so far are the Eclair (regular with a dark chocolate dip) and the pudding cups when they're available. Super tasty! read more

I love Beard Papa... The original flavor will always be my favorite. Tried the green tea filling, not as exciting, but is light. The outside breading is slightly crispy when fresh. And that original cream.... oh heaven! Perfect dessert after a meal at Shinsengumi a few stalls over. Cash only. read more

I heard a lot about this place before coming here and wasn't sure if it was actually gonna live up to the hype. So let me make this official: These are the best cream puffs I have ever tried and ever will try, by far. I'm not a huge fan of cream puffs but after trying one of Beard Papa's I was hooked. The shell is perfect and the filling is delicious. It's the point where I would give my left kidney for a lifetime supply of cream puffs. Okay, maybe not, but they're pretty damn good. read more

If you're not looking for it, you'll miss this Beard Papa location by a mile because it's located inside the Marukai Supermarket. The market itself sells your typical Asian fare and also houses a couple food stands in their small food court. We only go here for the cream puffs because they're amazingly yummy. They're huge, light, not too sweet and freshly baked every day. You simply cannot go wrong. The prices are decent too. I highly suggest going early because they sell out of certain flavors. Oh and buy two boxes because you will want more than one. Btw, it's cash only so make sure to have some handy! read more

The cream puffs are excellent and make for a nice treat when visiting family or friends. I recommend buying the 12-piece because everyone always seems to want more! read more

I just went here today after reading all the reviews since I was going to be in Gardena anyway. Things to know before going?: This is a small stand located INSIDE of Marukai, the stand is CASH ONLY, and the cream puffs are freaking awesome. Okay now, go ahead and grab your keys and go. Still reading for more info? This place is pretty awesome. It's located inside of the Marukai market, right when you walk in you just go to the left towards the small food court area. It's really small but hard to miss. Everything looks clean and the service was quick and courteous. Although, when we first got to the stand there was no one there so we left and came back later. I'm glad I did. I ordered the regular cream puff, it was flaky and filled to the brim with custard. I had to fight the urge to go back and order more. : ) read more

My favorite cream puffs! Yummy..whenever I get the urge for something sweet I head on over to Pacific Square. Very inexpensive and it hits the spot! I gave them 4 stars only because since I've been going there they only have the usual chocolate or vanilla flavored cream puffs. The first time I had Beard Papa was in SF and they had caramel as one of the choices...hopefully other flavors are soon to come. read more

I've made cream puffs before, so I know the work that goes into making them. These are by far the best puffs I've ever had. The pastry itself is light, crunchy and crumbly. Cream was a mix between flan and creme Brulee. Lines are quick. Going back soon. read more

I love cream puffs. I love Beard Papa's cream puffs. I remember being in London, and was surprised to see a branch there. Ahh, I just love cream puffs. It is so ooey gooey deliciously good. This is the closes Beard Papa where I live--Long Beach area. I used to go to the sawetelle one. Cream puffs, yogurtland, and macaroons. I wish I can mash them up together. My trophy for eating this is accumulated fat. Excess carbs are stored in the body as glycogen---it's you're trophy. read more

Yummy yummy yummy!!! Love these vanilla cream puffs. Eaten chilled is such a wonderful delight. Its filling are so full and creaming, its sooooooooo good! Can never have just one, its so addicting. Every time I get some, always taste so good, so rich and creamy. The perfect snack for a hot day. I've tried to freeze it a bit, just so it can be part cream puff ice cream... :o Its always delicious however you eat it. Mmmmm vanilla filled creamed cream puff....... GULP!! :D read more

OK, I know that Beard Papa doesn't need another review, but I love the regular cream puffs so much that I just had to give it some props. They are sooooo freakin' good. I've tried the eclair version (it is the regular version topped off with chocolate) and I thought that the chocolate detracted from the experience (This coming from a guy who loves chocolate!!!). I've heard several people complain about the cream puffs being messy to eat. I don't get it. I've never made a mess eating it. I guess that it is hard to make a mess when you are inhaling food instead of taking your time. 5 Stars for the regular cream puff!!! Noooooo, I've lost my five star-ginity. Well, I guess that makes sense, since those cream puffs have given me so much pleasure. :D read more

I love it when people focus on one thing, and do it right. It's the same quality I seek in a woman, I suppose. Not that their cream puffs are out of this world -- no -- but where can I find cream puffs that are warm both inside and outside. Most bakeries make these in the morning and they sit on the shelves for hours, if not a few days, often in the refrigerator. Not here. The dough are created, almost right off the oven, and cream is inserted as they are served. These things are expensive for what they are (you can buy a prepackaged cheap version in the grocery store for 1/4 of the price), but hey, it's not like you are going to have these every day. There are many kinds of filling -- again like women -- and I don't discriminate so I love them all. They are all wonderful in their own way. It's a great gift to bring to a party, if you can only hold off eating one in the car before you get there. read more

I said it once, I say it again: The cream puffs here are the best anywhere and I love them! I've never found another place that makes them as good. And if you have no intentions of sharing with anyone, keep this to yourself:) read more

It's pretty good, but not as good as Patisserie Chantilly or Cream Pan. Those are truly amazing Japanese bakeries.

If you like cream puffs, you have to go to a beard Papa store. The vanilla custard is so made with real vanilla; I could drink the filling. I kind of preferred the smaller creampuffs over the larger ones. And be careful when you take your first bite. Know where the filling hole is where they injected the filling. Recommend taking your first bite at that location otherwise you're in danger of losing all that good filling! read more
