This spot is located inside the DEL AMO FASHION CENTER on the 2nd floor near Din Tai Fung. I wanted to try their cheesecake but they only sell them as a whole cake. So i tried something else which was their ube cheese tart and this was delightful and creamy the ube was not overpowering either nice balance i actually enjoyed this one its a perfect size to snack on while you walk around. Next time i have a function I'll give their cheesecake a whirl I recommend
Such a fun and unique dessert experience! This Japanese dessert spot really stands out with its beautiful presentation and delicate flavors. Everything feels thoughtfully made, from the light and fluffy pastries to the perfectly balanced sweetness that Japanese desserts are known for. The textures are incredible--soft, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth. Whether it's mochi, matcha treats, or fluffy cakes, nothing feels overly heavy or sugary, which makes it easy to try a few different things. The shop itself has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, and the desserts almost look too pretty to eat. If you're looking for something a little different from the typical dessert shop, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
I live very far from Uncle Tetsu locations in SoCal so when I had the chance to be at Del Amo mall I made sure to buy it. My kids really loved the cookies and cream cheesecake. We also tried the seasonal mango basque cheesecake, it was very flavorful, you can def taste the mango flavor. The cheesecakes are a bit pricey but it's worth the splurge once in awhile!
This is the second time trying Uncle Tetsu. First time we had it was in Arcadia at the Santa Anita Mall. We thought it was just ok then and feel the same way today. It just isn't great to us. Yes it was light and fluffy, but it's just ok. We ordered the Burnt Basque Cheesecake and it was unimpressive especially for the $25 price tag. It's going to be very hard to give it a try again.

I loooove japanese style cheesecake. Its not everybody's cup of tea as people expect cheesecake to be creamy and rich. Japanese style "fluffy" cheesecake is more subtle airy, and I am here for it. I was at the mall with my family and spotted Uncle Tetsu. Since it was after lunch and I wanted something sweet, I decided to pick up a few things for myself and my family. After looking through the offerings, I decided on the basque cheesecake (my brother had been wanting to try this), the pandan cheesecake and some ube cookies. Service was quick and friendly and I got my order quickly. When we got home, I opened up the two cheesecake and decided to have a small piece of each. The basque cheesecake was dense, but also had a very soft center - so much so that I was afraid it wasn't fully cooked. After carefully inspecting it and researching online, I guess it was supposed to be that way. I deemed it safe to eat and continued with my treat. Overall, the basque cheesecake wasn't what I was expecting. Its flavors were fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again. The pandan cheesecake was light and fluffy with a good hint of pandan. My favorites were the ube cookies - I liked them a lot more than I expected to. They were soft and full of melt in your mouth ube. I will definitely get more of these the next time I'm in the area.
Was craving uncle tetsu and really enjoyed the cheesecake tart but decided to try all of them and ended up grabbing an original cheesecake and Ube cheesecake. Is it bad that I can eat an entire cheesecake and one sitting and not feel bad about it??? The original and strawberry tart was my favorite , my least favorite was actually the matcha (very green tea like) but still good! Just prefer the creamy decadent flavor over a bitter tea flavor? The seasonal one was pretty good too, but the original and strawberry definitely stand out. ube cheesecake was good! Definitely will get it again but I prefer original. I literally finished two cheesecakes in one week and the tarts in one sitting haha Service was prompt and super nice!

They have a wide variety of cheesecake flavors such as original, ube, pandan coconut, and smores as a seasonal flavor. They also have tarts and madeleines. I tried their ube which had a nice mild ube flavor. For first timers, I suggest just getting the the original flavor.
How best to describe it...if you've had a Filipino Mamon, it has that texture, but creamier or if you're familiar with a sponge cake, it is along those lines, but again, creamier. Specifically, Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake is spongy yet creamy & flavorful. I found myself savoring the texture and the mild taste...like the Asian stamp of approval for any dessert, "not too sweet". It's pretty much a "to go" location with no specific seating for their location so if you're interested in eating it right away, you'll just have to find a table or bench at the Mall, which is easy enough depending on how crowded the timing is. If this type of dessert sounds appealing, I recommend this spot...if I find myself craving it, I'll be seeking it here.

I'm normally not the biggest cheesecake person because I find it too rich, but the fluffiness of Japanese cheesecake makes that not a problem. I can see why this made them famous, and I would definitely recommend trying this if you've never been before. I think it could have been better with some refrigeration, so I'll have to give this one another try. Black sesame cheese tart: The black sesame flavor really comes through, and I loved it. Easily my favorite of the bunch. I'm so glad they had the black sesame cheesecake samples because frankly the black color of the dessert didn't look the most appealing, but I actually love the flavor (though a friend of ours didn't care for it, so this might be a hit-or-miss one). Can't wait to try more of the flavors--the black sesame cheesecake sample was super good, so the entire cheesecake might be next up. In terms of the service, the storefront in Sawtelle is just a place where you buy the cheesecakes--there weren't any seats or tables, and it's also cashless as a heads up.

Apparently its the best cheesecake they'd ever had; better than Cheesecake Factory. So of course, I had to assemble my crew and try the cheesecake together. Upon arriving at Uncle Tetsu, we were greeted by a kind worker who was not the Uncle Tetsu but rather by a menu of cheesecakes. What caught my eye, was the ube and matcha cheesecakes. But we decided to try their most famous cheesecake which was just the original. The cheesecake was airy and had just the right amount of sweetness---nothing too overpowering, but comforting. Each bite was indulging and satisfying. However, my friend said that "it's good", no further thoughts...I know they liked it a lot. I understand it now. Some things do not need grand reactions to be deeply enjoyed. This appreciation for the cheesecake does not need to be loud; just in it for the love of the game. Uncle Tetsu was my very first time trying Japanese cheesecake, and I love it. Japanese cheesecake is different from your traditional New York cheesecake. This cheesecake is light and fluffy--like a soufflé--and doesn't have the crumbly crust. It's more airy and has a subtle cream cheese flavor. I've had the pleasure of trying the Original Cheesecake, Strawberry Cheesecake, and matcha cheese tart. All were good but my go-to is the Original. This Uncle Tetsu is located in the Del Amo Fashion Center--upper level along with Din Tai Fung and Auntie Anne's & Cinnabon. There's usually not a long line so service is fairly quick. I was in the area to grab some ramen and this is one of the better cheesecakes to have for a dessert. Service is always fast and you get that real Japanese ambiance feel. I would've given 5 stars but I noticed they don't stamp the cheesecake anymore so it's not the full experience as it used to be read more
I ordered the pandan coconut cheese cake and it was delicious. Too easy to eat, very light in flavor and sweetness. I was tempted to eat half the cake in a spot at the mall at 8 PM on a Monday night. The woman who helped me was very helpful and kind. I had a lot of trouble finding Uncle Tetsu as I frantically walked all over the mall in hopes that they weren't closed since their closing hours vary on Apple Maps, Google, and Yelp, but I was glad to have made it! There are bathrooms in the mall and parking wasn't bad in the evening. I would definitely return to try more flavors. read more
I LOVE Uncle Tetsu cheesecake!!! Ok, I love all types of cheesecake LOL But just so you know these are not your typical "New York style" cheesecakes. Japanese cheesecake has a very light & fluffy, almost bouncy, texture that melts in your mouth and is lightly sweet in taste. They do have a choice of flavors; coffee, strawberry, chocolate & matcha to name a few. But for me it's all about the original every time ;) They are made fresh daily onsite which is one of the reasons they taste so good :) I have had them from other locations and can confirm that they are consistently wonderful :) Located in the Del Amo Mall there are plenty of other things to do and lots of free parking. The shop itself is an order counter only and the staff are very friendly. read more
Ordered a cake here as a birthday gift after eating in the mall, and it was a great, quick experience. The worker told us the most popular were regular flavor, ube, and matcha. We decided to go with ube as it had such a pretty purple hue. However, the top of the cake was not in the same color, it was a bit brown / dull. It did not impact the taste and was still very delicious. The cake itself was very light and airy -- unlike an American cheesecake. Despite having lots of other dessert that evening, I still had room to eat it and found it was not too dense. If I had the chance to go back soon, I'd definitely want to try the traditional flavor. read more

The OG cheese tart is officially my new fav dessert - it's like a cheesecake meets a cookie. I am so sad I don't live here bc we came 2x during our visit to LA. It was the perfect size and amount for a small post dinner dessert and strikes a great balance of sweet but not too sweet. It comes with a small edible (maybe white chocolate) medallion. The cookie like crust is crispy but melts in your mouth. If you love cheesecake and cookies, you'll be so satisfied! I imagine all their desserts are good! The server was helpful to share about the menu options and the ambiance is casual as it's a small pick up and go storefront in the mall. read more
I've passed by Uncle Tetsu so many times while shopping at Del Amo but have never stopped to actually try their cheesecake. Today I finally decided to try it and was happily surprised that there were so many flavors to choose from. We went pretty late so they only had Ube and Original Cheesecake to choose from which worked out for me because I wanted either Ube or Matcha. I ended up also getting a Matcha Cheese Tart to test out a matcha item. I had higher hopes for the matcha cheese tart, but the matcha-ness wasn't really there. I feel like it has to be paired with something else to help bring out the matcha taste in it, but overall it was still nice. The texture was perfectly light and the crust was unlike any other crust I've had before, I could eat that on its own. Although it didn't really taste like matcha during the actual eating of it, there was a very faint and subtle hint of it in the aftertaste which is better than nothing. The Ube Cheesecake exceeded my expectations wonderfully. The flavor comes through so well without being too intense to where you can only eat As for the texture, the sponginess was just right to where you can tell it was cake, but not traditional. I have had Japanese cheesecake before but it does not compare to this. And at $13 (and no tax!), I absolutely will be ordering these more regularly. Compared to most treats and desserts today, this price is incredibly reasonable and worth every penny! The woman working there when we stopped by was super sweet as well. She was super apologetic when explaining that everything had been sold out except the remaining two flavors (which is completely fair as it is Mother's Day and we came an hour before closing) and she had the most infectious and brightest smile that just made my day. read more

I got the Ube cheesecake, which was the flavor the girl working recommended most, and I do love Ube flavored things. I had never tried Japanese cheesecake before, and it's very different than regular cheesecake. Much lighter and fluffier. Ube flavor was good. I wish they had smaller sizes of the cheesecake though. They only had one size which was $14, and they should make minis for just one person. read more
The staff member who helped us was great! Very friendly and even gave us a sample of the what she described it as Japanese biscotti. We opted for the coconut. The texture is very light and airy with a great coconut flavor. The cake itself is moist and very flavorful. It was our first time trying a Japanese cheesecake and I'm so glad that we did! It is not heavy and dense like most Americans would think of cheesecake. It has more of the texture of a very moist and light bundt cake. The storefront is just a walk up counter with no seating, but there is seating in the mall close by. The cheesecake itself is large enough for four people too easily share a large serving of. When I come back the next time, I will definitely try the cheese tart. We learned the cheese tart is a traditional Japanese pastry. read more

Yum! I'm not usually one for cheesecakes, but Uncle Tetsu serves some heavenly ones! I especially like the cheese tarts, the best out of the oven. The matcha one is solid! Definitely don't miss out on Uncle Tetsu the next time you're out! read more
I am updating my last review from a three to a four star after a representative from the Uncle Tetsu management team reached out to me. I appreciate that the management team at Uncle Tetsu values their customers feedback. They reached out to me to let me know that they will address the quality issue with the team at this location and offered me a voucher to any flavor of their Japanese cheesecake. I truly appreciate their efforts in rectifying the situation. Although I can't say for sure that I can make it out to the Torrance location again before the voucher expires to check for improvements, I still stand by the fact that their cheesecake tastes great! Torrance is much farther of a location for me compared to the Rowland Heights (which I also wrote a review for) and I'll probably stick to that location for now. There were various flavors to choose from such as oreo, matcha, ube, etc but after talking to the worker, we got the original cheesecake as she told us that's the most popular! I was surprised when one of my sales representatives brought in two cheesecakes from Uncle Tetsu's bakery. I had the UBE and my colleague took the Oreo cookie cheesecake. WOW! Who-du-thunk, purple yams. This cheesecake is really amazing! I'm definitely going to make a stop at Uncle Tetsu's bakery the next trip towards LA or San Diego. read more
This isn't your traditional American cheesecake, which is something I knew before purchasing it. It tastes more like a sponge cake or maybe souffle. It is also substantially less sweet than regular cheesecake. It was very tasty and fresh, so I am only take off one star because the employee just seemed annoyed and wasn't very friendly. read more

I called the store and they are open on Christmas Eve. The Del Amo mall is open 7am to 6pm on Christmas Eve. Uncle Tetsu phone number is 323-275-9190. I don't know if you need to pre-order due to the holidays but I would call before hand.

How long does the cake last?
They recommend finish the cake within 1 day, and should last about 3 days in the fridge!
