one of my favorite sweet treat stops in the east Bay Area! I crave them often lol!! Whether you purchase in person or via delivery, the quality has always been outstanding! I loooove the frozen mango puff-it's not pictured but I usually get it everytime I order from here. These puff pastries are delicious & worth every bite. A six pack might not be enough especially since their s'mores is to die forrrrr. Pastry is fluffy and light yet filling with the soft & generous amount of cream. During pick ups, my husband says the staff is very kind, prompt, and welcoming! When we had questions about different flavors they were happy and patient to answer and chat. Overall the vibe of the place was really nice and friendly, definitely a local fave of ours!
The Castro Valley Bear Papa's is located in the Castro Valley Marketplace (a type of food hall/local market). It is a nice location since there is a variety of foods, shopping, and seems to draw in a variety of crowds. There is communal seating areas and tables shared by all the shops, so seating can sometimes be a challenge depending on the time of day/crowds. The staff was very helpful. It was later in the afternoon, but they still had all their flavors available for the day (though their quantities were running low). You choose a flavored Cream Puff, and then the filling. They have a rotating daily schedule of fillings. This daily rotation schedule seems to be changed weekly. With a variety of combinations, this dessert spot might be satisfy your "after meal" sweet tooth.
Beard papas is located in a small indoor shopping center/mall. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking and also street parking if you prefer. I have been a huge fan of Beard Papas cream puffs since I was in college. Their decadent puffs filled with your choice of vanilla, chocolate or the cream of the day are always ON POINT. Personally, I am a lover of the simple plain puff with vanilla cream but do occasionally dabble in other flavors like ube or green tea. I have NEVER had a puff or filing that I didn't love from Beard Papas. Highly recommend. I will always come back.
Ok this was better than I thought it would be! They've got good puff pastry flavor options and sounds like three rotating custard filling flavors each day or week. Choosing a filling was hard cuz I sampled two and they were both good! I'm curious if they'd be willing to put two in one pastry for those of us that can't decide! I may ask next time I'm there. Heck, the pastry bun itself would have probably been delicious (and lighter) even without the filling. The employee helping me was very friendly!
This location is consistently better than others I have visited. Service is excellent and friendly. The storefront is always impeccably, clean and organized. The products are very fresh and the cream puffs are freshly filled upon order. Stopped in yesterday for an Oreo cream puff filled with Vietnamese coffee custard and a strawberry puff filled with vanilla custard. Also tried the peach iced tea. That's currently available for summer and it was all absolutely delicious!
After a pretty spicy lunch in Hayward in a weekday I yelped keyword searched "desserts" and this popped up. I've had beard papas before at the Concord location but that was stand alone location making it very small footprint and size but it has everything they the bigger regular size beard papas have no difference. This one in CV is inside the Castro Valley marketplace next to Barons meats . Seri e was very friendly and fast so the food went perfect with my strong coffee from Trom coffee. If you not familiar with Castro Valley and all the spots it has to offer this is located inside so you would never even see it driving by. Now know that it's near and there is a dumpling place also inside. Ambiance inside the market is clean , and cool place to hang with lots of tables like a cafeteria style communal area.
Looking for something sweet but not too sweet? Its a little booth located in the corner of the marketplace. Lots of flavors to choose! Ube, matcha. Crispy and airy. I don't have to go to a mall anymore to buy these puffs. Lots of free parking in the back. So picking up for a party is no problem. Nice staff.
Beard Papa's in Castro Valley is easily one of my favorite sweet pastry spots in the area. The cream puffs are consistently fresh, light, and absolutely delicious. My favorite so far has been the Chocolate Banana Cream Puff--it has the perfect balance of flavor. The chocolate and banana pair beautifully, and what I loved most is that it's not too sweet, which makes it incredibly easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed. The shell was crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the cream was smooth, cool, and just the right amount. You can really tell they care about quality here--the fillings taste fresh, and the texture is spot on. The service was great, and it's conveniently located inside a small grocery mall. Whether you're a dessert person or not, I'd highly recommend stopping by and trying the Chocolate Banana. It's unique, satisfying, and the kind of treat you think about long after it's gone. I'll definitely be coming back to try more flavors!
New (to me) location in Castro Valley Marketplace. Came early to get my birthday treat with my Philz coffee (couple stores down) The marketplace has community tables open to the public
So happy to learn that there's a Beard Papa's inside the Castro Valley Marketplace! Not sure how I missed it before. The lady working the counter today was so sweet and friendly, and even made sure to separate our cream puffs and let us know which ones to store in the fridge or the freezer if we aren't eating them right away. I got the original cream puff with the vanilla cream and it was so good! This is what I usually get because I love the flavor of the original vanilla cream. My partner tried the Frozen Mango Puff which has a mango yogurt cream inside. It was interesting, the cream is very tart and feels like ice cream - I would want to try another frozen cream puff flavor. Also they have cream flavors of the day, so hopefully next time I'll come on a Friday so I can try the green tea cream!
Located in the Castro Valley marketplace across from 7 Hills Bakery. Tried the specialty S'mores cream puff and the chocolate lava cake (both about $7). These definitely fulfilled my hankering for dessert this weekend.
Came here a few weeks ago when they had a promotion! Ordered six cream puffs and got a free frozen mango yogurt puff! That flavor was SOOO good!! The day I was there, their Flavor (filling) of the day was ube! I love ube so of course I had to get that filling in at least one of my cream puffs! I ordered the ube shell and the churro shell filled with ube filling. I then ordered vanilla filling for the strawberry, chocolate, cookie crumble, and honey butter shells! All of them tasted so good! I also like that they are generous with the amount of filling inside! The filling oozes out when you bite into the cream puff!
It's a little place tucked away in the corner of the Castro Valley marketplace. I've been going to the marketplace for years and never knew that this beard and Papas was here. The two ladies behind the counter were super friendly and explained all the different flavors. I loved that they had the Ube Matcha And not just the traditional vanilla and chocolate. We did get the vanilla and chocolate along with the Ube and they're all my favorite now make it a point to visit when you're in Castro Valley you will not be disappointed.

Ube with matcha filling is my favorite combo. The slight bitterness of the matcha cuts the sweetness of the ube topping. Removed a star due to the cream leaking out of the puff as I was eating it. Maybe that means they are very generous with the filling! read more
Beard Papa is a Japanese-style cream puff that is light and airy with a crunchy texture filled with various whipped cream/custard flavors that's not overly sweet. My first time having Beard Papa was at Yerba Buena in SF about 18 years ago and thought "what a strange name for a cream puff place!" since it named after the owners fluffy white beard. Hmmm... When they first opened they had a simple, plain shell or chocolate dipped with vanilla, strawberry and chocolate as fillings. They were so popular with a following that you were limited to a 6 pack. Now, they have a variety of flavors of dipped shells from Ube, matcha strawberry, cookies & cream with choice of their original filling of vanilla to their special flavors that change each week and can buy as many you'd like! I'm more of a purist and stick with their original but discovered their honey butter shell that's tender yet crisp from the sugar with vanilla filling. In general, these puffs aren't too sweet (which I prefer) but the honey butter just elevates it for me. This newish location at the Castro Valley Marketplace is located to the right when you first enter. Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. You can't walk thru without getting any! Next time I'll have to try the Vietnamese coffee custard! read more
Beard Papa a kiosk in the midst of Castro Valley Marketplace where many vendors have similar stands. This is a special Asian pastry puff that offers a variety of fillings injected into the puff. There are many puff with different topping such as green tea, chocolate, strawberry, etc. and fillings changes daily. On this day, Ube was the one and vanilla is the standard. This week was an elite Yelp event so two puff of choice were complimentary and I purchased two additional. I chose the original, chocolate, green tea and churro. The original filled with Ube and the others vanilla. The puffs are great. I have always enjoyed the green tea and chocolate topped puff. I only wish they offer more choices on the filling than limited to the two. The service person was very helpful, friendly and informative. I definitely will come back for more. read more

I tried the chocolate, strawberry, churro, and almond flavors, and each one was absolutely amazing. The staff provided top-tier customer service and made me feel genuinely welcomed--like part of the family. The location is excellent, surrounded by other great shops to explore. I've definitely found my new dessert addiction! read more
I've heard a lot about Beard Papa and after walking about Castro Valley, I asked Hubby if we can stop in to get some to try! The wait was actually really long. There wasn't that many people in front of us, but we waited maybe a good 20-25 minutes before it was our turn to order. We ordered 3 different flavors. We had wanted to get more but they had sold out and after a long day we didn't want to wait to the new batch to come on. It was actually really good. Very flavorful and the cream that goes along with it wasn't too sweet. One is quite a lot, so we saved the others for the next day. It was actually good and I would come by again to get different flavors to try. The wait though was a bit long though, so we'll see when we'll come back here to order. read more

Surprised my kids with a treat to end summer internship and they were soooo yummy. This was introduced to me by a colleague who was assigned to bring deserts for a dinner get together. Consistently delicious! Every flavor I've tried so far is just divine. Service was great. Cashier was friendly and allowed us to used yelp discount upon check in. Place was organized and clean. Definitely will be a staple in our home. read more
This Beard Papa is located inside Castro Valley Marketplace. Upon entering, it's on the right hand side. The staff was super nice and thanked me for my patience as there was a customer taking a bit longer in front of me. I ended up ordering a Pina Colada and ube filled ube cream puff. I really liked the pina colada one as the filling was light and tropical while the topping on the puff wasn't overly sweet. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area! read more
10/10 recommend coming here for a delicious dessert! I didn't know what to expect, but it definitely surprised me in the best way possible. They serve many different flavors of cream puffs that are freshly made and the cream is always cold and delicious. The puffs are solid and don't get soggy easily. You first order the flavor puff you want. Then you choose either 1) vanilla or 2) filling of the day and they hand fill each puff upon request. They can stay in the fridge after buying, but they taste much better fresh! My favorite combination has been the churro puff with vanilla cream. The Oreo puff doesn't disappoint as well. This dessert place is a hidden gem for Castro valley. It's located inside the new marketplace on Castro valley boulevard. There is parking on the side/back of the building. There are also a few tables and chairs inside the marketplace to sit and enjoy your cream puff. read more
My cravings got the best of me. I had these delivered twice already! The vanilla cream filling is delicious! Love the different flavored shell options. Strawberry shell and honey butter is a nice alternative but nothing beats the OG puff. read more
The custard is always the top quality when it comes to Beard Papa. The creme brulee was okay, made it a little too sweet. My favorite are the matcha and chocolate. Staff is courteous and there are a couple of tables in front of the storefront to taste the delicate pastries. read more
Beard Papa's in CV has changed my mind about cream puffs! I feel like cream puffs are typically a bit soggy due to the cream in the middle, but this specific location has got the texture right and it is so good. The puff itself is perfectly baked so that it has bite to it. On top is coated with a flavor. In the middle, you can either do vanilla cream or the filling of the day. I've tried honey and butter, churro, strawberry, green tea eclair, and oreo cookie crumble eclair (all with vanilla cream filling). They were all excellent. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the flavors, but honey and butter and strawberry were my favs! Also, the service was amazing too. The lady who helped us made sure to give us all the extra crunchies that came with the honey and butter. A solid dessert place makes me happy because I can either treat myself or grab a pick-me-up for someone else! read more
Big Luxury. Thats not just the nickname for my furry four legged friend Mr Moose, thats also these cream puffs. You can't get this type of thing anywhere and after reading reviews I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. Huge over filled cream puffs of super high quality made to order? Count me in. I've come to love Japanese desserts - they are not overly sweet and they tend to be very delicate and special. I'm no fan of heavy duty brick 'cheesecake factory' 2000 calories in one slice type of thing. This was nothing like that. Outer shells were super delicate, fresh and beautifully baked. Toppings varied for anybodys liking. Kids might like Oreo - adults some green tea or coffee. Inside they have regular custard or the 'flavor of the day.' This keeps things interesting for regulars. I've had these 'cream puffs' from Safeway recently. They had wet soggy bottoms and the quote unquote cream wouldn't melt in my mouth. It left this film that only came off with my ultrasonic toothbrush and industrial strength tooth polishing compound. I don't need that. I don't think anybody needs that. Oh the horror. And I don't need your 'first world problems' side glance. Not even Big Luxury would eat that.... should raise an eyebrow. Big Luxury loved these on the other hand. He's a very food motivated little guy and I'm sure he would do circus acts for me for another taste in the future. That little guy loves to groom himself all day and then admire himself in the mirror. I could assure Mr Pocket Size Guy it wouldn't give him some big belly. So does it live up to they hype? Yes, five stars and 5 little itty bitty paw Mr Cute approval too. read more
Haven't been to a Beard Papa in years. Last time was in SF lower ground, inside Westfield Mall where Nordstrom used to be. So this from Victor's recent new business review and also came recommended from a buddy of mine. Glad they opened this Castro Valley location. It's also located inside the Castro Valley Marketplace. Very convenient. My buddy and I came here after hiking. Great way to re-energized and so we treated ourselves with sweet cream puffs. I got two of their Churo and Cookie Crumbs with chocolate filling. It was mouthwatering good. Service was excellent. We will return after our hikes. Cheers! read more
Beard Papa's opened where Oaktown Spice Shop was. Originates from Japan, they specializes in making cream puffs fresh daily. Only decor is Beard Papa signage. Service was quick, courteous, informative with the owners present in prepping & serving the puffs. Toppings variety: original, chocolate, green tea, churro, cookie & crumb(Oreo). Fillings: chocolate, vanilla. Eats: Original (4.25) -tasted semi-crunchy, slightly over baked. Innards melt in mouth quality. -filled with enormous amount of chocolate tasting very fresh. Informed it was made an hour earlier. Green tea "shell" (4.50) -green tea taste pronounced, not subtle. Overfilled with very flavorful vanilla bean essence. Take outs: -nicely packaged, travelled well. -definitely a superior tasting than other Beard Papa's locations. -plenty of parking in back. read more

I went to Beard Papas on a weekday evening as I was craving something sweet and cream puffs came to mind. It's been a long time since I tried the cream puffs from Beard Papas and I was curious to try them again. This Beard Papas counter is tucked away in a little corner inside the Castro Valley Marketplace. There's a parking lot outside but the spaces can be a bit tight. That day they had an ube flavored cream so I got that with the original cream puff shell, but all the other options were very tempting from the chocolate shells, to the matcha shell, etc. The ube cream flavor was good, a bit light in taste but still yummy and it wasn't too sweet. Each day they have a different cream puff flavor but the standard vanilla cream is always available. I am definitely coming back to try the other cream puff flavors and shells however they are a bit pricey at around ~4 per cream puff. read more
