I had heard a lot about this small business from my auntie a couple years ago when Dubai chocolate suddenly became viral. I finally found some time to visit with my cousin on a quiet Friday early afternoon. We were greeted to a beautiful, clean, and well organized store by the kind and polite owner, Areej. The vibe of the store very much so echoed a candy store you'd find in a shopping mall, except all the sweet treats are handmade and imported from countries such as Palestine and Turkey. Areej was very kind and welcoming and walked us through each of the different sweet treats, such as truffles and Turkish delights. There are also various mixed roasted nuts options with unique seasonings, and even Dubai chocolate strawberry cups! Areej was kind and generous, providing ample samples of the Turkish delights in flavors like Oreo, Dubai chocolate, birthday cake, and even sesame chocolate! My cousin also really likes their mixed party nuts that had a great spicy kick to it from a special blend of imported spices. Because of Areej's hospitality and generosity, as well as the prime quality of the chocolate truffles, mixed toasted nuts, and Turkish delights we were able to sample, I definitely did not hesitate to take home some delectable goodies (see photos). There also were skincare products made in Palestine, and I bought this homemade rose scented olive oil soap that I'll be gifting to my friend for her birthday :) Thank you so much, Areej, for being so welcoming! We will definitely recommend to others and come back! PS: It was mentioned that in the past, many people would walk in, sample large amounts of the shop's goodies, and then rudely leave the store without buying anything. Honestly, that's so distasteful! The Old City Roastery been on my watchlist since they popped up all on my fyp with their famous dubai chocolate desserts, various candies from Jordan, and sourcing of other popular ice cream like the Tu Cha fruit tubs. I finally had some down time to stop by on a Saturday lunch, and it was pretty empty since I visited during Ramadan. But the man working behind the counter was so friendly and patient with me. I literally felt like my stomach was bigger than my eyes, I wanted to try everything. But got a few chocolate covered goodies from kunafa to dates to regular dark chocolate for me and my coworkers. EVERYBODY loved it. My favorite hands down was the chocolate covered date. You HAVE to get that one. I only got a single, but I wish I got like five. You can also pick and choose and they provide you a little baggie to put them all in. They also sell turkish delight which he cuts for you by hand. I really enjoyed the pomegranate one as a nut-allergy girlie. The rose water was a little too rose-y for me. Too floral, it tasted like the smell of a grandma with her potpourri. They also sell nuts and other goodies like Palestinian ceramics. I had to get myself a Falasteeni ceramic magnet. It was so beautiful, painted with olives all over. Zaytoun aesthetic! I really love this mom and pop shop. I was going to gate keep for a little longer but they deserve some rave reviews tbh. So, I came here and met my friend who was staying in O-town. We decided to meet a little closer between the both of us so we wanted to hit up a coffee shop. I chose this because it looked so charming and has all the Turkish delights. So, we came there right after New Year's and it was raining cats and dogs and we got inside we were greeted right away and I was asking 101 questions of all these desserts and types of coffee. He answered it with so much enthusiasm and I was in awe and felt like I landed in Turkey myself. Finally, I decided on the fresh strawberries and milk and dark chocolates because why do I have to choose one when I can get both. A girl can have some dark healthy chocolate and indulge in the fatty milk goodness of chocolates, so I got that with the pistachio so here I am experiencing the Dubai chocolate hype and let me tell you it did not disappoint! It was so good I wanted to eat it all but the velvety chocolate layered with real pistachio cream was so rich and satisfying that I took a few bites and a few more and still had leftovers. I also ordered coffee there was only one kind and it was real smooth, not bitter, and I didn't need cream or sugar. Felt so nice to see and support a Palestinian owned shop here in Hayward. I really hope they flourish! I got various chocolates and other items (as seen in my pic). The place is pricey, but to be expected since they're considered more "novelty" over here. I assume the gentleman working that day was the owner, but I didn't ask. He was knowledgeable and friendly. We came here after eating out in Hayward and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted upon entering and then gravitated toward the chocolate truffle bins. It's nice because you can fill in your bags with whatever chocolates you like. We got 1-2 of the flavors that intrigued us and ate them within a week. We had truffles with digestive cookies, biscoff cream (delicious), chocolates with almond, truffles with cream cream cheese filling, pistachio cream, and then other unique chocolate delicacies from the middle eastern region. We liked everything except for the walnut chocolates. For a small bag full of chocolates, we paid around $11 though it's about $25 per pound. We would come back here during the winter to buy some of these chocolates for friends and family. We were very happy with our visit and will definitely return! read more

Yummy treats and good people! We purchased Dubai strawberry cup and a half pound of their mega party mix. The strawberry cup is so good! I've got this from other places, but the strawberries are never that sweet. These strawberries are very sweet and delicious! They even gave me the option to choose between milk or dark chocolate. I went for dark and it's amazing. The store was very clean and organized and the service was great! I've been here a couple times. It's a quaint place. It's a hidden gem for Hayward and I'm so glad they opened. The owners are down to earth and welcoming. They have two small tables for seating to have a quick bite of your desserts or drink Turkish coffee. They have a variety of selection of gummies, sweets, chocolates, Dubai chocolates, olives, nuts, Turkish delights. They carry an impressive selection of sweet treats, Turkish delights, chocolate strawberries, Turkish coffee, and a wide variety of chocolates that make it almost impossible to choose just one. The Dubai chocolate, especially the pistachio and kanafe , was absolutely delicious. One large bar cost $25 which was perfect for sharing. I also tried their Turkish coffee--bold and very aromatic . A wonderful shop featuring well over 40 varieties of chocolate with options in milk and dark, there's something for everyone. They had a plethora of pistachio flavors making it hard not to grab 1 of each.. Each chocolate is wrapped beautifully, featuring different colors, shapes and sizes. Such a unique and special addition to downtown Hayward! They have a large selection of individually wrapped chocolates, including squares of Dubai chocolate if you don't want to splurge on an entire bar (though they do sell the full bars too). The last time I was there the price per pound of chocolate was $24.50. There are a lot of nut-based chocolates like pistachio and hazelnut, but plenty more without nuts. The chocolates taste rich and high-quality, and the wrapping and packaging make a great presentation so I've bought their chocolates as gifts before. They also have a lot of halal gummies, a whole section of Turkish delight, as well as spices for sale in bulk. They also have random specialty products like olive oil soap, honey, jameed. Good customer service, the folks there are always friendly and happy to answer any questions. I've been multiple times and always have a nice experience. Came here since my friend raved about their Dubai chocolate . She told me the man there let you samples anything you want in the store. When I got there on a Saturday afternoon, I saw a man in the front and a lady in the back. The lady asked me what I was looking for and I said Dubai chocolate. She told me where the bars are. And I asked if I could sample it. She first said no! She didn't sound too welcoming. Then she said "you can try the individually wrapped ones." So we tried out the dark and milk Dubai chocolate. The dark was very good. Not bitter. Ratio of chocolate and fillings was good. The milk one was a bit too sweet for my taste. So I got a bar of dark Dubai chocolate. They actually ran out of the milk one. I didn't sample other chocolate like my friend did since the lady didn't offer. Intrigued and heard about this place from multiple individuals, specifically stating that this place serves the freshest Dubai chocolate that they ever had. Therefore, I had high expectations. No idea if they have a private lot or not as there thankfully was street parking available. Free 2 hour street parallel parking. Located in the hustle and bustle of Hayward, surrounded by options such as smoothies and pizza. Admittedly, I did not take photos because of what happened as will be described below and that I felt what's already on Yelp was sufficient. Walking into the doors, there was a father with this son. The father allowed him to literally buy anything he wanted. There was only one male worker. You can tell this worker was excited and thus focused solely on them. Subsequently, I was ignored the entire time. I wanted to try everything/as many things as I could due the mindset that I may not come back. As a result, I dabbled in a bit of everything. I picked the chocolates first. Yes, the large Dubai chocolate bar (they have dark chocolate too!!) is $25. I didn't want this as I just wanted to try so I was elated to see a smaller version in the bins. I asked the worker if they tasted the same and his comment: "uh yeah they all come from the same place" in the rudest way possible. I then checked out the gummies. I am literally one to follow directions so I used the gloves as stated. The kid above literally just took the gummies out of the bins with his hands... no remarks from the worker. I struggled with opening the provided bag. The worker instantly states "what's wrong, what's going on with you." I take a bit of each gummy. There are no freaking labels or dates or ANYTHING. Last, I head over to the turkish delight counter. They have to serve and cut the pieces to you. I emphasize I am allergic to coconut. He states "options are labeled" and points to the black canvas. Bro, at this point I just wanted to leave. Guess what, I end up with a piece that had coconut. Has drinks from hot to cold. Has tables and chairs indoors to sit. Has savory options for purchase. Has unique items such as the bouquets for special order. I go home and share with others. Their remarks: hella sweet and hella old. I try some and omg... stale, stale, and stale. I now have bags and a box on the table left uneaten. Will anyone reading this like some? No dates (which is very strange). No ingredients. No labels. No nothing. Extremely Disappointed. Their pickled items had mold as well (I was about to purchase the pickled cucumbers but there were literal white mold at the ends of the cucumbers...). I can't. I am at a lost for words. At $25 a bar for their Dubai chocolate bar or a pound of their individually wrapped chocolates, it's quite pricey but the quality is definitely worth it. Coming in milk and dark chocolate varieties, the pistachio loaded Dubai chocolate bar is a decadent treat fit for royalty, and you, my friend, can follow the figuratively red carpet through their doors to grab your own. As you crunch into the perfectly tempered chocolate exterior, you are met with a green, rich and nutty interior bursting with pistachio. This is just the start as you'll find that one bite is just not enough; one row may not be enough; one bar may not be enough! In addition to all the chocolates and gummies that were available, they also had some exports including this really interesting pistachio cream (like a spread for toast). I was literally a kid in a candy shop and was tempted to buy a bit of everything. The Dubai chocolates were great gifts for friends and family - most of whom didn't even know what Dubai chocolates were (granted I didn't know either until I had a taste of Old City Roastery's at an event). Overall, Old City Roastery is certainly a niche shop but if sweets are on the menu, this is the destination. With a convenient location, clean storefront, welcoming staff, and probably some of the best chocolates you'll have, you'll go nuts and get chocolate wasted simultaneously for this little gem in Hayward. If you happen to be in the area, I highly recommend stopping by here and picking something up to eat on the spot or to bring home and enjoy with friends and family. Like everyone else on the internet, I came across The Old City Roastery because of the viral Dubai chocolate that's been trending nonstop--and lucky for me, it's just down the street. Of course I had to check it out. The shop is solid and filled with the kindest, most welcoming people. I went in for the Dubai chocolate bars (yes, the famous $25 ones) and have been slowly savoring them over the last few weeks--they're rich, luxurious, and honestly live up to the hype. While I was there, I grabbed a cup of Turkish coffee (coffee addict here ‍) and started chatting with the woman working the front. She was incredibly sweet and gave me her personal recommendations--turns out we both lean more savory than sweet, and she pointed out some of their roasted nuts. After I paid, my husband and I ended up hanging out at one of the little tables by the front of the shop, sipping coffee and people-watching. A few minutes later, she came over with a sample of the nuts she mentioned--totally unprompted--and I loved them so much I went back to buy a bag. That kind of thoughtful, warm service really stuck with me. I'm definitely planning to go back soon. I want to try their Turkish delights and one of those strawberry Dubai fruit cups next. I stopped by here yesterday at 2pm and there was no line but there were a couple people who came after me. I ordered the Dubai chocolate covered strawberries. They have a bowl and cup options for you to choose from. If I remember correctly, the bowl is 12 ounces and the cup is 16 ounces. The lady offered me a sample of their baklava while I was waiting for the chocolate to melt since they just refilled the chocolate. The Dubai chocolate covered strawberries were so good! It kind of just tastes like chocolate covered strawberries. I wanted to eat all of it but also wanted to save some for my boyfriend to try. The Old City Roastery (Nuts and Spices) is the newest tenant located on busy Foothill Blvd in Downtown Hayward. It still has the beautiful remnants of the previous business: Doc's Wine Shop with wood-slat ceilings and openness. Place has a very welcoming vibe that makes you go WOW as you walk in and see the counter full of colorful Turkish delights. They also offer a variety of gummies and chocolate in the middle of the store in self serve bins with savory nuts and snacks behind the counter. The owner, Donya was very friendly and gracious offering me samples of anything I wanted. I've had Turkish Delights before but always thought they were cloyingly sweet...the variety I sampled today were made of soft nougat which is marshmallow like and filled with pistachio, pomegranate and an almond coffee... light, delicious and not overly sweet. I've been converted! Spot is a month new so still organizing and unpacking. The owner mentioned most their products are shipped from the Middle East (Palestine and Jordan) and only item made is the Dubai Chocolate Bar - $14 for a milk or dark chocolate Pricing: $23/lb for Turkish delights and $18/lb mix of candies. What a gem of a find! We were looking for dessert in downtown Hayward and we happened upon this place. It is my birthday and they gave me a free strawberry milk chocolate kunafa cup - which was DIVINE. We also tried a few of their other desserts. 10/10! Particularly love the s'mores and red velvet flavors. read more
