    Vegan sandwich special
    Chloe F.

Beara is new to the area and I started following them on social media. They didn't have anything vegan, but I still wanted to support a local spot. SO GLAD I DID! They had a vegan weekend sandwich special and oh my YUM! So good! Unique, but simple and easy grab and go! I hope it's available again soon!

Everything I've tried is good, small selection of products, tough location - hard to find and no parking on that street.

Even worse, it's amazing. And I'm not one to gush over bakeries. And this bakery does it all. Naturally leavened breads, sweet pastries, savory baked goods, and great coffee all in a clean, well lit, charming, and friendly space. While I have had BDB's rye teacake at Argus in the past, I had not delved deeply into their full line of products. This changed last week when I popped in and fell in love with their buckwheat financier, spelt scone with braised collards, cheddar, and bacon, and their Ypsi sour loaf. Here's the bottom line: the flavors and textures are just freaking fabulous. Across the board. Financiers, scones, and bread all share the same praise. Remarkable crunchy crusts, juxtaposed with tender interiors, and flavor that just goes on and on. Brand new fan. Well worth the drive out to Ypsi. I think I found my new favorite hangout with those big big windows, easy weekday parking, and free wifi. My hope is to get there early enough sometime to get a hot baguette out of the oven, or some other loaf when it is still warm. Hot bread and good butter is the best food combination on Earth. I'm ready to throw down in defense of those words. I suspect when I get that timing figured out, Bird Dog Baking might be able to squeeze its way into the top spot of my greatest culinary experience of all time. But I'm a simple man, with simple tastes... even if I have almost impossibly high standards. Oh yeah, they also are seriously into local grains, using a wide variety of lesser known grains, and all kinds of other super cool and nerdy food stuff. But you don't have to know any of that to fall in love with the spot and the culinary team behind it. Just go, eat, and enjoy.

The case was absolutely gorgeous - filled with both yeast and cake donuts as well as this ham and cheese filled pretzel that I had read about and an amazing looking sticky bun. I was trying to get to work so I didn't have time to take a lot of photos. I chose the cake, chocolate covered donut, and the ham and cheese stuffed pretzel. I have no picture of this donut because I ate it in the car on the way to work because I just couldn't stand it. It was phenomenal. Of course a cake donut has a different texture than a yeast doughnut And it was soft yet cakey. I thought the chocolate icing was amazing. It was a little sweet, but I loved that about it. There are tables inside and a couple tables outside but as it is 29° I didn't sit outside. I jumped in my car and ate my donut on the way to work. The woman behind the counter said she is one of the owners, but I didn't get her name. I am bad. But she was lovely and just so kind.

She made a 3 layer chocolate/oreo cake with vegan buttercream frosting, along with picture perfect decorations (my wife is recently very into gardening, see the beautiful flowers in the attached photo), and all guests at the party agreed - it was absolutely delicious! For my daughter's birthday I needed assistance as I was recovering from surgery. I searched local bakeries after first trying my favorites I've used in the past and discovering they were both out of business. I looked for something local and read all about taste your dreams and it sounded right. We ordered sugar cookies decorated with Royal icing as well as chocolate fudge filled chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting and some edible decor. Nut allergies were a concern for some of our guests. The theme was unicorns! We discussed decor and flavors, I gave some sketches of our ideas for decor and taste your dreams handled the rest. She delivered to our doorstep and was very thorough during the entire process about what would work best given all of our preferences and ideas. She also explained when I asked what would be the best way to store the items based on their ingredients up until the time of the party.
