Had a pleasant experience here today! Dropped in around 11 and found a slightly busy establishment with people of all ages. We had a Chai tea latte and just a normal latte in big ceramic mugs and they were very tasty. I got a bagel for a snack and while it wasn't anything too special, they toasted and sliced it. The women working behind the counter were very friendly and making conversation with the customers beyond "what can I get you". The best part is the menu, which is written in big, whimsical scrawl. There's drawings of how much milk, coffee, espresso, flavor, etc. goes into each beverage so there's no confusion! Can't wait to go back and get a whole pot of tea. This place was over pretty good. This place is handicap accessible. I had the chia tea, and the hummus plate. It had cucumbers, carrots, and pretzels. The cucumbers were a tad dry, and pretzels were stale. My friend ordered a veggie sandwich, the bread was dried out and crumbled. Then there were a few fruit flys trapped inside the plastic that the sandwich was wrapped in. I ended up sharing mine. I went up and grabbed another veggie sandwich, they didn't have it ready so she offered to make me a fresh one. The new one was really good. I ended up getting two cinnamon scones to take home for my family. All and all, tea was cook, the food once it was fresh was good, and the customer service was great. Great place to study! Went there once while traveling and had a great experience. Coffee was good, wireless was fast, lots of outlets on the walls and warm and cozy. The only reason I am taking a star is that a lot of teenagers were hanging out there (it was on the Christmas break) and it got a bit loud. Great place though, I would go there again! read more

Chai + Cider = "Spiced Cider"....I would have never thought of the combo, and was happy with the result. Also have several tasty sounding fall drinks (Pumpkin Pie Latte). Great to see a company using compostable hot cups and lids! Definitely something I like to support. Free Wi-Fi too. read more

Bean and Leaf Cafe --- What can I say about this.. The place is cozy and the service is nice. The people will help and if the fire place is not turned on, well, all you have to do is ask. I love their fair trace coffee. The prices are decent but the only thing is that their chairs are not that comfortable. They make my butt hurt after an hour. I would recommend this place. read more

I am visiting for the holiday and drink tea very regularly so I searched for a cafe with tea. I found this place and it had good reviews so I gave it a try. To start, they had two of the most ditsy girls working that seemed like they didn't even know what planet they were on. I wanted a matcha and asked if could get a shot of matcha. The girl replied, "no, it comes in a powder." That was the dumbest answer possible, like I wanted to snort my tea instead of drink it. I had to explain to her what matcha is and how it's served. After 10 minutes I finally placed my order and received my tea. After all the trouble, it was the worst cup of tea I've ever had! It was so bitter I almost spit it back out. Unfortunately I needed my caffeine fix so I forced myself to drink it. Maybe this place serves decent coffee but the tea is embarrassing. They should just cut that out and be a coffee house. read more

I cannot say enough good words about Bean & Leaf Cafe. In a nutshell: the tea is exceptional, their coffee is beyond and the staff is knowledgeable and, above all, personable. Despite a few nit-picky flaws (yeah, so what if the interior greatly resembles the Starbucks that once resided there? It definitely works for the laptop bound crowd) everything is simply perfect about this cafe. Also, if you don't know what to get (particularly for those looking for something of the tea variety), know that the staff is incredibly well-educated in what they serve; I encourage asking them for a recommendation--I have done this a countless amount of times and they have never once made me a tea I didn't love. read more

Centrally coffee shop located in downtown Rochester. Great place to stop when you're in a rush first thing in the morning. They have a nice selection of coffees but I really enjoy the different tea selections they offer. They have a much greater variety than other coffee shops. They have a few choices for breakfast items but not a large selection. So I wouldn't recommend this coffee shop if you're looking for anything beyond a muffin. This used to be a 3-4 star coffee shop but the consistency of the food and beverages they sell vary wildly. Whether the cause is the high staff turnover rate or the owner/ manager not ordering enough pastries or other food supplies to make it through the day/ weekend, I couldn't say. What you do see when you walk in is a virtually empty display with a bunch of little signs and very little food. As a local, you want to support local business but you also want to snack when your hungry. I Hope they can turn it around as we've been coming here for years. BTW, this is not an endorsement to go to Starbuck's up the road. The Bean has them beat for coffee flavor, inconsistent or not. read more

Nice little place at the SW corner of Walton and Main. First time there. I described what I wanted (iced sf vanilla latte with one pump and heavy cream) and the guy got it right and it was REALLY good. Really good. It's nice and quiet inside and has a clean bathroom. read more

This place is nothing compared to another coffee place in town. The coffee just had a taste I wasn't too big of a fan of. I usually drink black coffee, but when I got home I felt I needed to add almond milk so it was drinkable. Maybe I just have weird taste, but this is my opinion. My husband was happy with his latte. The inside is very cute! The fireplace is adorable, and as other reviews stated there is plenty of seating. The staff was very kind and patient as my husband took his time ordering. Overall, I do not think I will come back again because of my own coffee preference, but my husband says it's a possibility he will be back. read more

A decent amount of people were there but it was a very calm place to hangout and do some work. I really appreciate establishments like this. When my best friend lived in Rochester, I enjoyed slipping over to this local cafe to get some writing done while she was at work. I enjoyed the homey atmosphere of this cafe, the tasty tea specials, and the delicious desserts. I pretty much live here so it would be wrong not to write a review. I'm so glad that this cute little cafe exists. A few comfy lounge chairs, with a nice mix of tall and short tables for all your sitting/standing table needs. It can get pretty packed at times, especially in the evenings, but for the most part it's never too noisy and there is a healthy ebb and flow of people, and a "regulars" crowd. I usually stick to a soy dirty/regular chai which is always perfect, but I've also had a variety of their teas, which have all been wonderful as well. In particular, I like the Enertea, Silver Needle, and a peach one (Peach Ginger? the name escapes me). I also like to get the breakfast sandwiches, which you can have made with croissants if you prefer. Discounts if you show them your student ID! One of the biggest perks is the people who work there, many of whom are students. Everyone is always so friendly and whenever I need a break from studying, they are always down for a quick chat. I've been studying here long enough to have gone through 3-4 waves of new hires, and I always get kind of sad when some of the baristas leave forever! S/O to Eileen, Kristen, Rachel B, Rachel M, Sarah, Elise, Danielle, Lauren, Trey, Becca, Kalli, and all the other people I am forgetting but who had to see my mug every mf-ing day. You guys are the best. :) I'm also thankful for the fact that they don't mind me camping out here pretty much all day, every day. I'm always sure to pay the rent first though. ;) read more
