We went to Beach's in Lena this past Friday night during the festival to have fish. Our friends told us it was good. Now, I have to admit my expectations were low as the last couple times I was there, I was disappointed. Plus we've spent most of the summer hitting fish fries all over Sauk County, WI. I'm testifying to everyone here that Beach's Friday night fish fry was OUTSTANDING! There are choices for baked or fried whitefish which I was told is Alaskan pollock. The breading was light and crisp, and the portion ample enough for leftovers! The garlic mashed potatoes were tasty. The restaurant is for sale but is open. The drinks were great and reasonably priced as was dinner. Now I'm missing Stephenson County even more! Go try them out! read more

We hadn't been here in years. So sorry we hadn't!! Same fun Supper Club ambiance. Started off in the fun 'W shaped' bar with the fun retro orange seats. Sooo comfy. Served delish drinks and wonderful apps. I NEVER eat onion rings. I mean NEVER. I ate these!!! They're home made. And the fried mushrooms? Also homemade. We were advised to get the smaller order of onion rings. Who does that? Moved on to the dining room. The guys got the pork chops. Couldn't finish them and raved about the quality, seasoning and the fact that they were cooked to perfection. Everything came with a side (so many options) a salad and a soup! Chicken was fabulous too. Servers were wonderful. We WILL BE BACK!!! read more

I cannot believe this gem of a restaurant is so empty on a Saturday night. I had the 20 oz prime rib and it was fantastic. I also had the baked French onion soup and it was also really great. My wife had the French fried shrimp and she loved them. The manhattan I had was perfect. Please try this place, you won't be disappointed!!! read more

We had dinner here last night for my birthday. The service was great. The owner waited on us, and she was just lovely. We were the only ones there, but I still feel like she went above and beyond. The food was so good! I had the ribeye, and my husband had the chicken George. The dinners came with a really good amount of food on the side, too. The bread was very fresh. I could smell the yeast. The place was really cool with a really neat sunken bar, and we were seated by the fireplace. And then at the end, she surprised me with a complementary little cake for my birthday that had to be freshly baked because it was still oven warm. I will absolutely 100% be back. We have been going there for years on Weds evenings for their broasted chicken special. They had some of the best broasted chicken I have had. Unfortunatly, they were not selling much of it during these Covid times and they stopped that special for now. Understandable. We went last Saturday night and had a lovely time. They have prime rib on Saturday nights. We both ordered prime rib medium cooked. I would have given 5 stars, but the meat was a little overcooked and was dry. It was not the best we have had, but it was ok to eat. The very nice service and side dishes made up for it though. I like supporting family owned businesses like this and will definitely be going back again soon. They are only open Fri-Sun for now, so call ahead and make sure they are open on the night you plan to go. They do take reservations even for small parties. read more

This place deserves an A+. Family owned and operated with very attentive wait staff. Fish fry is great, onion rings really good and pork chops delicious. The bar is very unique and very cool with the way it winds through the room with very low bar chairs....need to see it to understand. Won't be sorry. read more

We had dinner there tonight.....will NEVER GO BACK. I had Broasted Chicken....which was Tasteless, my husband and I took 1 taste of the French Onion Soup...TASTED LIKE DISHWATER.....NO CHEESE, NO CROUTONS...., we Did Complaine, and the hostess said, yes, I've Had someone else say that....but sure didn't Take it off our bill. My baked potato was not done & Cold. We paid for the other couples dinner, they said it was just ok...but $162.00 later, and I'm looking for something to eat in our kitchen. Route 20 travelers! This is worth the slight detour off the road to Galena and the Territories. A traditional supper club just like the Wisconsin model, complete with Friday fish fry and Brandy Old Fashioneds. Only the salad bar is missing. I ordered bourbon rocks: generous pour! And my wife an Old Fashioned taller than I make at home. We splurged on a ribeye and their single lobster (you can order two). I must say I was cautious about the steak because I like mine rare, and it is so easy to overcook a lobster. Both were just delicious! I had their soup of the day, corn chowder. Tasty, hot, and not too salty. In fact, nothing was over salted. Be sure to try their house cucumber dressing on your salad and just try NOT to dive into their fresh baked bread! There is a complete menu and the biggest surprise for you city folks? The price. You won't believe it. Don't miss this little gem on the Stagecoach Road just west of Lena. Opens at 5pm. read more

I've been to Beach's a few times and each time I've been underwhelmed. My family went for an "All You Can Eat" Ribs special - only to be told it wasn't really "all you can eat" - you get a nice portion but if the ads say "All you can Eat" then you should be able to get it. With it, there was salad, potato, and bread. The baked potato wasn't special and nearly undercooked, and the salad was basically watery lettuce on a plate. It was just "meh" all around. The second time I went I got some fish that was duller than dishwater. It was tilapia and it was just not good. It tasted too fishy (I realize its fish but there's quality tilapia and this was definitely not quality for the price) Again it was watery salad and my dressing was the weirdest version of French I'd ever tasted. The waiter station also faces into the dining room with no barrier so it looks tacky for a "nicer" restaurant as this is supposed to be. The waitstaff is friendly enough but don't seem to "care" about their tables. They just go through the motions. read more

There were only two other customers in the restaurant when we walked in the front door. The restaurant had a very peculiar smell similar to that of a recently used bathroom. The bar and counter tops were littered with dirty dishes and glasses making the restaurant appear dirty. The atmosphere was dated and dingy...more bar- like than restaurant. The best part of my meal was the salad. The house-made dressing...yummy. The entree was fried shrimp. I figured that fried food would be a safe bet and I was wrong! The breading tasted as if a salt shaker had fallen into the batter. It turned out to be no big deal, I just peeled off the breading. The service was fine. Our waitress was very prompt. While our party was eating dinner, the waitress began stripping the tables of various condiments etc...I thought that to be awkward. We felt like we were being rushed out. read more

From start to finish our evening was most enjoyable!! The bartender Dani was very welcoming and interactive and made a great Cosmo! We sat at the bar for a bit which is so comfortable with barrel seats!! I had the Rib eye steak sandwich and it melted in my mouth. Although it's not your traditional "sandwich" because there was only one piece of Texas toast, I asked for another piece to complete my expectation. I read reviews before eating there and wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it. We were seated immediately and the hostess and the waitresses were very nice. Our waitress promptly got our drinks and took our order. The salad could have been better being this is a supper club. Just lettuce and croutons and the french dressing did not taste good. The onion soup was not up to par either. The steaks and fries though were very good. Even though the entree and the service were good I am not interested in eating there again and I would not recommend eating there. read more

Went for Saturday Prime Rib special and it was anything but special. Had not been there for many years and won't be going back. The price was $25 apiece and my piece (12 oz) was maybe a half inch thick. And both pieces had a very strange textured and taste. Salad was watery head lettuce. Bread and clam chowder were great. Absolutely fabulous dinner! All steaks and prime rib cooked to perfection meeting individual tastes. Sides could not have been better, down to the freshly made garlic mashed potatoes. Beautiful vintage bar (sunken) with Dani tending making perfect cosmos and we heard brandy old fashions. Maddie our server for dinner could not have been any better. I do not like to give negative reviews but I feel a duty to in this case to save people a horrible dining experience. We drove up on a Saturday night and the parking light was pretty empty. We decided to still go in and were seated promptly. Our waitress was a sweet young girl that had absolutely no training. I blame mostly management for that! Every question we asked she did not have the answer and had to go find out - very awkward! We each ordered the onion soup and salad to start. The onion soup was absolutely the worst I have ever had. It was nothing more than beef broth with sparse onions. There were no seasonings what so ever, not even salt and pepper! The salad was iceberg lettuce with a couple croutons. There were no tomatoes which I find surprising since tomatoes are in season. The french dressing was terrible! How do you mess up french dressing? I guess by buying the absolutely cheapest one you can find. I ordered a medium rare 24 oz porterhouse steak and had a conversation with the waitress about "medium rare" making sure that it was red in the middle. The steak I got was well done and clearly was no more than 16 oz. I promptly sent it back and decided to share my wife's ribs. The ribs were fine and the baked potato was good! :) They still charged me for the soup (which we clearly didn't eat) and the salad. We will NEVER go back. read more

When we drove up to the restaurant it was completely empty except for about four cars needless to say we were a bit apprehensive as we entered the door. My party of seven were the only ones in the entire restaurant except for one local couple. We had driven 35 minutes to get there and we're starving so we were not easily swayed, we we ordered filet mignon pork ribs pork chops and the coconut shrimp. As the appetizers and main courses started to come out we were pleasantly surprised and very happy with the meal. For me the one dish I will remember the most was the salad in the homemade dressing. It was a type of garlic dressing that was to die for. The one disappointment was the shrimp but as I reminded my wife you're in the Midwest thousands of miles from any ocean you should not be ordering seafood from the ocean. Over the years, owners have changed and you can tell. It has not been good. Tonight my husband and I went on a very rare date night. We got there and were seated promptly by one of the owners, our waitress was great, but the food was absolutely terrible (with the exception of their onion rings). We ordered our food, my husband 16 oz prime rib and myself, the broiled cod. The cod was freezer burned and completely lacked flavor. The prime rib was very drab and flavorless as well. My husband ate his, I did not eat mine. When the owner came over, she asked how our food was, I told her that the fish tasted old and lacked flavor. She proceeded to act shocked and asked me if I would like to take the fish with me and cook it more at home! Seriously, who in the heck does that? I looked at her and asked her, why would I want to cook it more? I paid you to cook it. She never offered to comp my meal as I had only taken two small bites, or even offered dessert, but the worst part, she never apologized for the food being awful. Unfortunately, $70 down the drain and my hopes of returning are gone...sad to say but I will not be returning as this restaurant has an amazing history, but these owners are less than desirable in the hospitality and food industry. read more
