What a delightful gem inside a state park of all the places. Grateful this place is so close by the camping areas. We parked and ordered an espresso, Reuben sandwich, a cheeseburger for my son. He loved it so much. My husband was glad that the serving portion was big enough too. Store and restaurant are only opened for take out, so plan accordingly. The best view is right outside. I would go back and eat here again. There is an elderly woman who is the sweetest owner there and she was very helpful. Delicious soft serve as well, what's more to love!!! read more

For four years I have eaten at this cafe. Each time the food is delicious and cooked with care. Currently (July 2022) the grill is open 10 am to 3 pm. If you think the prices are rather high, it is expensive to operate a cafe. (Details end of review, if you're interested.) The veggie burger has purple onions cooked on the grill so they are actually sweet. My son liked his chicken sandwich. The quality of the food is consistently good. Their new Oreo milkshake costs as much as one from Baskin Robbins, but tastes better. The sun and warm breeze off the water are relaxing in ways not many things are. The weathered wooden deck has a large picnic table, three plastic chairs, and two deluxe cozy as can be elevated ones with a smaller circular laminate table. Dogs are welcome. Every single child is welcome to play with the Lego ship. "This is the captains area." "It's a private ship and this is the treasure!" "Should food go in here?" "That's where I was going to put the treasure but, OK." At the other end of the picnic table a grandfather is supervising a game if oversized checkers. He encourages the kids to play horseshoes. We were delighted to find this little place open, as the hours are limited, and only during the summer season. We were not expecting the really good reuben sandwich and very nice chicken sandwich; a real cut above for a state park beach canteen! And a friendly, fun, funky place. It caters to campers and day use visitors, and seating is limited to a small deck, a couple of adjacent picnic tables, plus additional dispersed picnic tables. Very nice! read more

Fun and convenient place for treats while camping! We stopped for ice cream but had lunch as well, and came back the next day for iced latte, chai tea latte and more ice cream. Made one last stop before our camping trip came to an end. Will definitely be back next time we camp in this area! They also have a sweet treat for dogs - a big dish of vanilla soft serve with a huge dog biscuit in it. read more

This is for both the cafe and the store in the same building. I got the Deluxe burger, added cheese. 1/3 lb. patty, with the usual fixings. Pretty good, especially from such a tiny isolated location. Wife and daughter each got a chai latte, enjoyed those. Large ice cream cones seemed to satisfy as well! Store stocks most camping necessities, fishing tackle, kites and wind spinners , clothing items, souvenirs, toys, etc. Firewood available, somewhat more expensive that outside the park, but it's convenient. Meh, mediocre food, cramped store, limited seating even on a Monday. The proprietors can step it up, seeing as how it's earning in summer.

We had a wonderful time here, despite the crazy winds! Peter is a wealth of knowledge, and he shared a lot of history about the area. We drove through major wind gusts just to visit this park and this stop was a welcome sight! We had lattes and a Reuben sandwich, both of which were excellent! Awesome little beach snack shack. While staying at the campground, we stopped by for a coffee and everything looked so good, we ended up grabbing an afternoon snack as well. Super nice staff and they even made me a deconstructed burger (sans bread). Wife had their kosher dog and both of us were happy! They do offer beer/cider/wine as well. Love this little place and will stop by next time we're on the island. read more

I always love the sight of this little cafe at Fort Flagler with the colorful flags and windsocks flying. We camp here every summer and have always enjoyed the tasty burgers and delicious soft serve ice cream cones while sitting and playing a game of checkers on the deck. Today there were no flags flying. :o( I mentioned it to the nice lady and young man at the store. They got busy and put up a lovely big whirlygig and windsock. Made my day! We were there several days ago. We had a big order, and the two ladies working were incredibly rude. They made me feel like I shouldn't even place my order because it would be too much for them. The guy at the grill was great! He was very kind and helpful. When they got my sister's order wrong, she simply asked for cheese to be added (the guy at the grill had confirmed with my sister that she wanted it), they took out the receipt and tried to prove she didn't order it. The lady at the register showed her frustration very clearly when we ordered. The food is GREAT! I think they just cannot handle the capacity of people they get. If you're in the park, and can patiently wait about 30 minutes, it's worth a try. But don't go out of your way to go here. Leaving there I felt like I had completely put them out and it wasn't a good feeling. read more

My husband goes here almost every weekend for ice cream. He goes every Sat and takes my daughter when she is home from college. Today we went as a family. We usually have good service. and their food is good too. Today we placed an order for ice cream and some grilled cheese sandwiches. We got our ice cream fast and the young man that took our order was really nice. After that the visit went downhill. We had already waited for at least 30 minutes for our grilled cheese. They called a ticket number and it was for the guy who placed an order for a grilled cheese sandwich right before us so we thought we would be up next. I went to the window and the lady asked if I was waiting on an order. I said yes and gave her my name. She said we were 4 behind and it would be another 30 minutes. I asked if I could get a refund because I couldn't wait that long because my daughter had to go to work. She went to the back and told the main lady that runs the place that I wanted a refund. She shouted good they can go to McDonalds. I felt this was uncalled for. They could have just said sorry for the wait and have been nice about it. My husband said he will have to rethink about going there again. I was as nice as I could be. Usually when someone places an order they do the orders in the order they are taken. When I was leaving the was a couple that ordered after us and they were being handed their food. When I was standing close to the window I could hear yelling. Great customer service! We were so pleased to have a place to eat at our campsite. She offers quality ingredients and her food was tasty!

My friend, her kids and I went here to enjoy a day at the beach and treat ourselves to some ice cream and lunch on a hot August afternoon. We grabbed our popsicles for the kids and they ate them out on the picnic tables while we waited for my friend to get her burger. The woman working there who may be the owner/manger handed her the burger she had ordered and told her to leave because we were shooing a bee away from her head. She went on and on about how "the last thing she needed was our sugar water dripping everywhere" and said "go eat it in your car". As we were packing up our stuff she continued to yell at us to leave. Mind you, we had already rinsed the picnic table with water where the popsicle dripped. I asked my friends child to throw away his popsicle if he was done and she yelled at me "DON'T PUT THAT IN THE GARBAGE!!!!" So extremely rude and inconsiderate. As locals, we will not be returning and will be advising others to stay away from this place, too. read more

Our interaction started when my husband and I walked in this tiny well loved cafe at closing time and were handed a free ice cream cone. Then Maj fixed us burgers rather than showing us the door.
