An amazing addition to Vineyard Haven! Having been a fan of State Road - I knew that culinary goodness and fresh local ingredients were to be expected. The view here is stunning, and the service is always outstanding. Aside from their odd hours (we were there on business prior to the peak season - and were surprised to find them closed several evenings), everything tried there was delicious. Their corn flour crusted fried chicken was by far my favorite. Amazing preparation. But also enjoyed the Burrata salad, Beef brisket, and spaghetti. read more

We went to Beach Road about ten till five and there was about 9 people waiting for doors to open. As we enter, the whole flock goes right to bar for hh oysters, ha. Now I get it... we got a high top by door so we could partake in the buck a shuck as bar was instantly full. They were medium size oysters but a little on thick side. I typically try and only eat smaller ones so there was a few honkers I just had to turn over but they were good. The hot sauce is very good. We got quahog chowder that was absolutely delicious except for the fact that there were practically no clams and was all broth and potatoes. Very good flavor though. We got short rib sticky bun that was also very good but got one small bun for $7. We split the clams and linguine that again was very tasty but had very few clams and small portion for the price. No side clams in shell which I typically appreciate. Wifey got butterscotch pudding and I got Daphne coffee drink. The food and drink were all great but not a very good value other than if you want hh oysters. I definitely like to spend $$$ on fine food an drink but was disappointed in the portions. Maybe if I had some of the cartful of fresh bread they rolled out and left next to us I probably would've felt a little more satiated. read more

How disappointing! I met 5 other women friends for a much needed girls night out and Beach Rd. Was chosen amongst many many other contenders as the spot where we would gather for our friends birthday. I arrived at the restaurant and saw one member of our party standing in the hot foyer of the restaurant. Assuming that no one else from our party had arrived yet we began chatting and catching up. After about 10 minutes the host with the beard, Chris approached us and brusquely asked us if he could help us. He seemed positively annoyed. I greeted him warmly and told him we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. He rudely pointed at a table across the restaurant and told us that they had already been seated. His tone was rude with an air of hostility. He clearly should not be a host at this establishment. My cucumber and mint salad was excellent but my main course (halibut) was over cooked leaving the dish dry and barely edible. I would expect much more for a $39 piece of fish. I won't be returning to Beach Road. Don't believe the hype. read more

The food was delicious but portions are small esp. considering the price. I had the whole Black Sea bass which was very good and dh had the blue fin tuna which he said delicious but looked like a appetizer portion. I ordered a beer and looked at the menu. The beer was good and they do have a nice selection.. The atmosphere is nice. . I wasn't that hungry so I told The bartender I'd wait a bit to order as I wasn't that hungry. The menu has $36 fried chicken... That's a little pricey for bird! I drank some of the beer and the waitress told me I had to eat. Apparently there is a town law that states you have to have food in order to drink! So I ordered a shrimp cocktail. I was told that I had to order more food in order for it to qualify as a meal. I passed. You'd think they might offer something at a decent price so one could "qualify " to drink. Nope. read more

Overall a good experience here. Parking is challenging, especially with limited handicap options. Had a fabulous seat at the window overlooking the lagoon. Service was B-, aloof and at times distracted. The big room is noisy, but well appointed. The menu was diverse, yes emphasis on large meat portions. That said $64 for a ginormous, less than tender ribeye w/o veggies was excessive. The draft beer was excellent and the barstaff was on their game. It would be a nice spot for drinks and apps. Wow! Amazing! Superb! We had a dinner with friends and enjoyed everything we ordered. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and welcomed us from the moment we entered. We started with fried clams, Mexican corn and summer salad. Everything was fresh, in season. The clams were the best we ever had and the corn just melted in your mouth We ordered a basket of Leslie's bread honey salted whipped butter which didn't last My son tried the Campechena and it was something special which is saying a lot coming from a chef. He also tried a charred cabbage special which was out of the world I had the mussels which was in a perfect blend of saffron and chorizo broth very light salty savory and great for dipping The mussels were perfectly cooked. My husband and friend had the halibut which cut like butter and exploded with flavor It came with a side of sticky rice topped with kimchi which ate like a fluffy polenta And for dessert we had whiskey pudding and chocolate delice Enough said With a wonderful wine list, a beautiful view, music that was just loud enough so you could enjoy and still hear conversation at the table and a wonderfully attentive staff, and amazing food, Beach Road is a must. read more

What a beautiful place, with amazing food. They were attentive and sat us as quickly as possible. We requested the bar area. It has such a great atmosphere. My fiancé told them it was my birthday, and one server came out with cake, and sang the most beautiful happy birthday to me. Such a great experience...highly recommend it. read more

We loved this restaurant! Upon entering, the staff asked why we were in the area and we shared that it was our honeymoon. Right away, champagne was brought to our table. So kind and this was the only place that did so while we were there. The deviled eggs and NE clam chowder were delicious appetizers. Husband and I both got lobster rolls - his the up island and mine the down island. So different from each other but both so delicious! We ended with the chocolate cake. Just from the looks of it, the group at the tale next to us wanted to order it. We will definitely visit Beach Road again. read more

This could be a fun place, could have a great vibe but unfortunately we did not have a great experience. The staff just seems miserable to be there. - no one smiles! Octopus was rubbery, cabbage salad and pasta with clams just soaked in butter. Bread is an appetizer order - not a given and drink pours are very stingy. So good! The bread is literally to die for... so amazing. I really loved everything about this place, the view is incredible and the aesthetic is jussssst right. The food is so, so good! I loved the hot dog, I literally couldn't get over how amazing it was. The service was really good, I wasn't too impatient with the wait time, but it was pretty crowded, so I can't complain. Hate to only give three stars to Beach Road, but I simply have to. The ambience and service are top-notch, the drinks are amazing, as are the deserts. But I've never had such over-salted food in my life as I did with their mushroom risotto entree. I also tried a taste of a friend's fried chicken, and it too had an amazing amount of salt. Plus the mushroom risotto was $22, and I think a box recipe would have been better than what I got. That being said, their appetizers including their bread basket and their clam chowder were utterly amazing, and the service was excellent. My Lemon Drop Martini was one of the best I've ever had - I had two of them - and the ice cream sandwich for dessert was rich enough that four of us could share it without any of us feeling deprived. Just wish they would lighten up on the salt shaker. read more

A generally very disappointing meal at Beach Road. The special appetizer Swordfish Belly was a weird amalgam of foam, wheatgrass-tasting broth and lime that was odd and unappealing- and we are adventurous eaters. The conch pasta tasted good but contained no visible evidence of its namesake-we had to ask the waiter if any conch was actually in there! The salad was meager and also odd tasting. I want to start this review by saying that I love this place and the staff is great. We have dined here 4 times since it opened and each time leave a little less dazzled. The place is lovely, the staff attentive and friendly but the food can be sometimes downright odd. A Caesar salad that had more seaweed on it than dressing, a clam chowder with zero clams and a load of potatoes? And a gnocchi dish than was gummy and covered in foam. I am only writing this because we love coming to Beach Road but someone needs to talk to the chef. I have heard many others mention the same concerns. read more

FELL SHORT OF POTENTIAL The atmosphere is very nice as is the location - Five stars. Staff is very good - five stars - It's high priced but Thats to be expected. Four stars. Food itself - eh I wasn't impressed. the clams linguine was a small portion and had almost no clams. The Brussels sprouts were really good but too salty. Best meal we had on island and we've had quite a few. Service was excellent too. All so good we stopped by to tell thee owner on the way out! We had lobster roll (hot buttered) and it was wonderful only topped by the perfectly delicious striped bass. Had a few small menemsha oysters too! Would go back if I get a reservation. read more

Great unique food choices. Beautiful interior and views out the many windows. If you eat only traditional meals or want an inexpensive place this is not the place for you. Not a good place for most kids meals. If you love Oyster bars or love to try foods made in a new progressive way it's great. Wonderful sour dough bread, drink selection, and amazing customer attention and service by all the staff. One of the best restaurants on the island. Great atmosphere in a great setting that is both modern but has MV character. Casual but upscale. Food and service have been fantastic each time we've gone (Fluke Carpaccio, orecchiette, bouillabaisse, linguine and clams, fried root vegetable chips, burrata are all great). We went tonight for dinner with another couple. Nice view and vibe in the place. Our service was quite slow to start, but our waitress was apologetic and good afterward, so no problems there. The food unfortunately was disappointing for most of us. Overall we all found the flavors pretty subtle and unmemorable. We loved the fresh bread basket and liked our tiny oyster slider. Our drinks didn't taste as good as the descriptions with most lacking any sweetness to balance the bitterness. The cod was good but incredibly simple and plain. The potatoes with it were dried out and there was no sauce holding the dish together or making it anything more than the sum of the ingredients. The bolognese was ok, but had no taste or evidence of conch which is what made the dish sound unique. The vegetarian special entree and the gnocchi were also fresh and good, but lacked flavor. We all added salt and pepper to our dishes, which I rarely do. The gnocchi was the dish lined the most, but it was a surprisingly small portion for a full entree. The cookie basket was incredibly good, so we ended on a high note. Get this if you like cookies! The corn ice cream, again, sounded interesting but didn't taste very unique or special. Not sure we'd come back for this food at this price point. read more

This place has great seafood! I really enjoyed my bouillabaisse dish with a variety of seafood, including mussels, white fish, clams in a delicious sauce. The atmosphere was hip and trendy, that included a knowledgeable wait staff. Lovely spot, excellent service and good food, but the menu feels outdated with the focus on large portions of meat or seafood with nary a vegetable in sight. In fact, if you want veggies they come as fairly boring side dishes, and rather overpriced. My family and friends just don't eat this way anymore; we want vegetables incorporated creatively into dishes with seafood or meat, and more vegetarian options. Lovely location, very nice staff and good service, but too many mediocre dining experiences in the past year means we won't be back. Our most recent visit, we started with soup It arrived lukewarm and flavorless. Honestly, tasted like water with a little milk in it. Since everyone in our party had tried this place before, we decided to cut our losses and leave when we finished our drinks. The tab? Almost $30 per person for soup, a drink, and tip/tax. Stopped by tonite for a meal on the recommendation from our hotel. A beautiful setting looking right out at the lagoon. Upscale yet relaxed with a great minimalistic decor that feels authentic to its location,but without the typical kitschy items that clutter so many places. The bread they served prior to dinner is so good we had two baskets!. The waitress indicated it was made in house and you can tell they know it's good. My husband loved his lobster roll because it was so fresh and simple..... Lots of lobster pieces and not smothered by sauce/ mayo. I had a pasta dish which was quite fresh and lots of garlic. It was very good but maybe a little too much olive oil on it for my taste. I don't normally get pasta so maybe this is ok. There were several interesting choices and surprisingly , some vegetation options that sounded delicious. We loved the atmosphere in the main dining room, but there is also a " communal" table set in an attached room ( all glassed in) with rustic super long table that can sit many people or a huge family . The modern teardrop style light fixture hanging over the table is unusual and a really cool feature that makes this room feel special! read more

We almost didnt make it here because we were staying on the other side of the island. But I am so glad we came. Oysters were so fresh and delicious! The rest of the meal was nothing short of foodie dream. The cod collar was to die for and everything else continued to wow us. I was so disappointed in this restaurant, which opened this year in the same spot as Saltwater, my Vineyard favorite. The interior is dark, dark, noisy and crowded, unlike Saltwater. The menu is quirky: hot dogs, two kinds of lobster roll - odd dishes for an evening meal. We enjoyed the seafood pot pie and the scallops, but both dishes were small portions. Roast chicken, steak and baked cod were also offered. We filled up on sides of spinach and eggplant. German chocolate cake for dessert was enormous - enough for all four of us, and very tasty. Bread at the table was delicious and service very attentive. If this restaurant has a theme, it is hard to fathom. Maybe by next year they will work out the kinks. I have to say that Beach Road is very popular. We waited three days for our reservation. read more

We had a wonderful meal last night at Beach Road. The restaurant has a nice open feel and water views, you can even see the water when you are facing the other way, they have a large mirror over the bar. Our waitress, Emma was excellent, calm and had a nice personality. We had the Beach Tower which was loaded with great food from the raw bar. Also ordered fish of the day which was Fluke also good, could have used a little more eggplant purée. All and all a great place to eat, one of the best we have had on the Vineyard. read more

The staff, venue, and I imagine most of the menu are terrific. Unfortunately, I ordered Beach Road's signature wood grilled whole fish entree (which was the fluke) and found it dry and bland. Another guest at our table ordered the same and agreed.
