Went here with a group of 12 adults/kids, and easily spent about $1000 (including tip), so this restaurant definitely earns its $$$. Since it was such a huge party, we were able to reserve their private room with a decent view of outside. (Per Yelp reviews, I thought the view would be better.) We started with some beers, a bottle of wine, and Bread Boxes (some were savory, some were sweet). Then, the adults ordered an obscene amount of oysters and the Due East Tower (a 2 ft tall tower of raw seafoods). The presentation was gorgeous and the seafood was very fresh; frankly, this was the best part of the meal. Collectively, we ordered the Catch of the Day (Seared Tuna), Whole Fish of the Day, Sea Scallops, Fried Chicken and an absurd amount of fries and hushpuppies on the side.The kids absolutely loved their meals (fries and tiny bits of fish), but the adults were less enthused. (The entrees were good, but sort of flavorless, and on the small side portion-wise.) I would still recommend this restaurant for a fancy dinner for two that focused on the raw bar, but I probably won't be back unless it's on someone else's dime. read more

Very solid dining experience all the way around! We started out with the cucumber salad. It was off the hook awesome! Delicate slivers of cucumber rolled up with feta cheese and drizzled with olive oil and three types of mint and other herbs. Absolutely delicious! My husband had the linguini and clams (a few more clams could have made their way onto this dish without too much cut into the restaurant's profits). Otherwise, really good! I had the fried chicken. Beautiful restaurant with decent food We went twice in one day, once for happy hour, once for dinner. Oyster happy hour at the bar (5-6pm) was a dream: stunning view, friendly bartenders, quality oysters. Dinner left something to be desired. Food came out rather quickly for a restaurant at its price point (yes I'm complaining food was served TOO quick, apps out in 5 min, entrees out 10 min after we finished apps). The food was disappointingly mediocre. The short rib bao was salty and could've used some sweetness, the seafood was completely lost in the crab and lobster campechana, the Brussels sprouts at the bottom of the bowl was drowning in ponzu so too salty to eat. The saving grace was the fried chicken. Lesson: come at 5 for the happy hour, go elsewhere for dinner. read more

Another trip to the Beach Road Restaurant and another phenomenal meal had by all. The oyster special might have you waiting in line for when the open but I'll tell you it's just the start of an amazing culinary experience. From the attentive staff, including the bartenders, work the bar seats like sailing on a calm sea. They're in sync which is something a lot of Vineyard restaurants are missing during a busy summer season. Not here at Beach Road, they're firing on all cylinders. The drink menu is well thought out, the atmosphere is friendly enough if you want to reach out to another person at the bar it's easy to have a conversation but if you want to remain in your own little safe space it's easy to do and hear your companion. I've been back a few times since my original review and there's just nothing bad to say. While I'm still obsessed with the halibut, I've tried the linguini with clams and made it for $1 oysters. Everything is just amazing. When I feel like a I want nice meal, Beach Road is at the top of my list because the food is so consistently delicious. Also, Caitlin at the bar deserves a special mention...her drinks are so creative and the flavor combos are amazing. It would be a challenge to find better cocktails on the island. read more

Happy Hour $1 oysters (5-6p daily)!! I'm not sure if this will be a deal all summer (I caught it in October at the end of season and now in May) but it is a great deal for fabulous oysters (and at $3 an oyster during regular hours, it is average in terms of cost for oysters on the Vineyard). Bonus? Their cocktail selection is always intriguing. The herb infused drinks are a big hit with the oysters. Love & Happiness (strawberry & ginger infused tequila with lavendar) was perfectly crisp and just a tad sweet. My favorite-- Spring Darling-- with rhubarb infused vodka and fennel-- had a wonderfully tart finish. We did not have food off of the menu (just oysters) but everything looked good. You advertise dollar oysters 5-6, yet don't allow any overflow to tables near the bar once the bar is full, so even though you have a completely empty dining room, you lose customers by turning them away.... We went to Seafood Shanty instead, they were very welcoming and had a much better view! I suppose you just don't need the business or want to make people feel welcome or wanted. Upon entering the restaurant we were impressed by the lovely atmosphere, beautiful views and decor. We really enjoyed the smaller dining room which was warm, rustic and romantic. The meal was absolutely amazing, 5 stars on everything :) - creative, fresh, delicious, health-conscious food. We shared apps- pan roasted sea scallops with caviar and cucumber salad, I had the bibimbap (amazing), my boyfriend had the porkchop which he enjoyed.. cocktails were delicious made with fresh local summer fruit and not overly sweet. Dessert was the ice cream sandwich....I don't usually eat such things but this- this completely homemade with chocolate frosted chocolate cookies sandwiching vanilla ice cream- this, I could not resist. It was the most delicious thing I've had in a long time. Wish I could go back for round 2 but I'll need to wait til next year! read more

Disappointing food. Brussel sprouts were good, but pancetta was over cooked and hard to chew, most of the charred cabbage was tasty - remaining 1/3 was burnt and not enjoyable. Do not order the swimmer blue crab appetizers. We were seated at the "wrong" table and made to move... The server was the only bright spot. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

This is a seafood restaurant, so the fact that we had fried chicken and ribs may color our less than enthusiastic review. This is our second visit. The fried chicken is ok, with a very thick bready crust without much flavor. It did arrive hot and crisp, pieces on the smaller side, but acceptable. Mashed potatoes were luscious. The food, a B at best. The ribs, a huge portion, have a small amount of sticky sweet sauce ( not dry rub as reported by our waitress) and were tender but oddly flavorlessThe hominy was just awful as was the ropey almost inedible greens with bacon, all very vinegar soaked. The apple crisp was beyond outstanding and fresh. I'd go back for the view alone. Try the fish. It has to be better. read more

Main course my husband Pan Roasted Sea Scallops & Caviar. $24 Very tasty but didn't find the flavor of caviar they offered either 3 or 5 plate He choose 3. No sides nor did server offer or recommend. I had the Lobster & Crap Champechana $20 Chow chow avocado Serrano tomato water. Very flavorful chunks of tender pieces of lobster and crab. I'd order it again. Desert we shared a Butterscotch wiskey pudding $10 and hubby had coffee which was served with two almond cookies that blew the pudding out the door. Pudding wiskey flavor was lost as well as consistace and butterscotch flavor.I'd order the cookie plate next time. Server seem to loose interest in us as dinner progressed. By the time the check came I felt like she really didn't care if we where satisfied with our meal. Not someone I'd want to wait on me again. The hostess dressed in her Lily Pulitzer clothing demanded that my wife and I return to the hostess stand because we sat ourselves at the bar. The bar tender was very nice yet slightly arrogant because of her New York city upbringings. The dollar oysters was a great deal but for $10 wine was just OK. With limited meals on the Vineyard, we wanted to come because of the view. While we chose the restaurant for being on the water, we were surprised by our dining experience (in a good way). When you walk in the vibe is sophisticated nautical (if that can even be used as design term)? We were also happy because they had alcohol (Vineyard Haven is dry), so we were already off to a good start. We were happy and lucky to snag reservations as we saw them turn away walk-ups even after Labor Day (the island is significantly less crowded after Labor Day). We enjoyed sitting by the floor to ceiling windows. The bar has a mirror so you can look at the water from the bar (smart). The food menu was creative and fresh ingredients. Super friendly wait staff, and good pours of wine for the Vineyard-- We already can't wait for our next trip back to Beach Road next Summer. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner at Beach Road. The restaurant was packed for a Monday night and having arrived sans reservations we were seated at the bar. The bartenders were great as was the food. We started with a tuna tartar and followed that up with small plates of seared scallops with lentils and an eggplant tofu involtini which, even being something I wouldn't ever order on my own, was delicious. No problems being a queer here. 10/10 score, which I was a little apprehensive since I had never been the Martha's Vineyard before and wasn't sure what to expect. So far so good! We got a back corner window seat and the view was stunning. Simple décor with an open floor plan, makes it a little "louder", but I'm more sensitive to background noise than most. They only serve beer and wine here, as of spring 2016, soooo I didn't have a beverage of sorts. le sigh, I know, feel my pain - I was hoping for a kick ass bloody mary! anyhoo... the FOOD! the bread is amazing, really not much to tell but its warm, brushed with oil and fricken yum. we started off with tuna tar tar, which I love and hold to high standards - seriously, how can you not when its RAW FISH not even wrapped in rice. it has a high hurdle to jump! and it did. perfectly tossed with basic seasoning and a dribble of oil. nicely plated to boot. I got the corn flour crusted half chicken with mashed potatoes and substituted green beans for the slaw. You should note that its gluten free, for all you gluten intolerant peeps! They support local "stuff" so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was a local farm chicken, because HOLY CRAP it was AMAZING. seriously amazing. I want to go back to the island just to eat that chicken. It was hot on the inside, crispy golden on the outside and melt in your mouth delish. The mashed potatoes were a weeeeeeeeeeeee bit on the buttery side for me, I tend to like them a little more dense and potatoey. (is that even a word?) and the beans were fresh, bright green and yummy... again, Id like them without the oil/butter but that's just me and I'm stretching here. The star was the chicken. I fear I'll go back and never try anything else EVER. So I hope it's this good the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th time around. In closing, I want to acknowledge the staff. The night after stuffing ourselves with turkey, stuffing and artery clogging foods (Thanksgiving if you haven't figured it out) we were looking for a casual place to enjoy some great seafood. Beach Road amazed us with the fresh local fare that they provide. The building is right along the inlet and great for dates and groups. They have a small room cordoned off for a large group which keeps the noise down in the main dining area. The menu features everything under the sea and some land dwelling animals as well (with a twist of course; kimchi hot dog!) We started with the broiled oysters and chopped kale salad- I usually am not a fan of raw oysters so a little bit of breadcrumbs went a long way. The salad was well dressed, especially for hearty kale which is tough to soften. For the main course we had a bouillabaisse with monkfish, lobster, clams and mussels in a saffron broth (yum!) and a pork schnitzel which I gladly ate with a smile on my face. For dessert of course, German chocolate cake. All in all, it was a wonderful place to enjoy a vacation dinner and get a feel for the local flavors. read more

So sad that such a beautiful restaurant(decor wise) can behave in such a way that the person paying the bill feels as if they are not welcome. I hope that the ownership can figure out what is going on with the staff. Horrible service with a dismissive attitude. Overpriced for portion sizes. The chicory salad was delicious. My wife's acorn squash appetizer was just ok. She said she would not order it again. Sometimes the magic happens. We were looking for a place to eat well after the end of the summer season when many of the establishments close or cut their hours on MV. We stumbled across this place with a quick search on Yelp. We had heard it was the sister restaurant to State Road so we gave it a try. The two of us were quickly seated at a great table overlooking the water. Great decor and feel to the restaurant. The waiter was attentive and very helpful with the menu. We decided to share to get a taste of a few things. We started with a mix of half a dozen MA oysters served with both mignonette sauce and cocktail sauce with horseradish. Paired with the Summer Salad that we shared. Superb. Next we had the Seafood Pot Pie and the Local Chicken Fried. The pot pie was like a chowder topped with pastry, outstanding flavor. Fried chicken was incredible. Three pieces served with slaw so plenty to share. A stand out dish. To drink a glass of Roderer champagne and a local draft beer. The choices were tough since so many items looked great. Saw the Wood Grilled Ribeye served at the next table. Would like to try that as well as the hot dog with Kim Chi. No room for desert. Gotta come back. Not the least expensive but worth the price. We even saw a couple of celebs at the restaurant. read more

We have been eating at restaurants on the Vineyard for 20 + years. We had our hopes up because we LOVE State Road restaurant, and the owners are the same. State Road was closed tonight. Make no mistake, there is not much in common. We called to make a reservation and they didn't have any, so we joined a waiting list. We were thrilled when they called us offering a 6:30 pm reservation. We arrived and the hostess greeted us with "there is no record of that name" and then " there is no record of that number." When I showed the incoming call from the restaurant at 4:07 pm, she said "I'm not going through all of that" and seated us without a smile or any conciliatory comment. Less than welcoming and nothing like our experiences at State Road. The bread was delicious. The menu is limited at Beach Road, and we came home smelling like fried food and feeling like we should have selected one of the many other restaurants we have come to enjoy on the Vineyard. Our waitress was very nice and we have no complaints about her service. However, we won't be back. It's unfortunate because the decor and location are lovely, but the menu is lacking, the atmosphere is not welcoming, and the greeting set the tone for a mediocre-leaning towards negative experience. read more

Making a reservation was soo easy, which was suprising on a hot summer night on martha's vineyard. My guest had the fried chicken which they raved about. I had the fried clams which were okay What was outstanding was the grilled cabbage salad. Next time i am ordered that and absolutely NOT sharing. Everything is done right here. High quality food and service. My wife had the swordfish and said it was terrific. I had the ink pasta with shellfish, which was memorable in taste and presentation. Only disappointment was that shellfish turned out to be a few clams and mussels shelled and mixed in with the pasta. So if you order it, it's a delicious pasta dish, not really a seafood dish. I am giving this 3 stars because I would come here again, but only for the drinks. This restaurant was wildly overpriced for the quality of food I received. I ordered tuna tartare and a lobster roll and neither were very good. However, the Bloody Mary Martinis were the best I've ever had. I loved them. We went to Beach Road about ten till five and there was about 9 people waiting for doors to open. As we enter, the whole flock goes right to bar for hh oysters, ha. Now I get it... we got a high top by door so we could partake in the buck a shuck as bar was instantly full. They were medium size oysters but a little on thick side. I typically try and only eat smaller ones so there was a few honkers I just had to turn over but they were good. The hot sauce is very good. We got quahog chowder that was absolutely delicious except for the fact that there were practically no clams and was all broth and potatoes. Very good flavor though. We got short rib sticky bun that was also very good but got one small bun for $7. We split the clams and linguine that again was very tasty but had very few clams and small portion for the price. No side clams in shell which I typically appreciate. Wifey got butterscotch pudding and I got Daphne coffee drink. The food and drink were all great but not a very good value other than if you want hh oysters. I definitely like to spend $$$ on fine food an drink but was disappointed in the portions. Maybe if I had some of the cartful of fresh bread they rolled out and left next to us I probably would've felt a little more satiated. read more

An amazing addition to Vineyard Haven! Having been a fan of State Road - I knew that culinary goodness and fresh local ingredients were to be expected. The view here is stunning, and the service is always outstanding. Aside from their odd hours (we were there on business prior to the peak season - and were surprised to find them closed several evenings), everything tried there was delicious. Their corn flour crusted fried chicken was by far my favorite. Amazing preparation. But also enjoyed the Burrata salad, Beef brisket, and spaghetti. read more

How disappointing! I met 5 other women friends for a much needed girls night out and Beach Rd. Was chosen amongst many many other contenders as the spot where we would gather for our friends birthday. I arrived at the restaurant and saw one member of our party standing in the hot foyer of the restaurant. Assuming that no one else from our party had arrived yet we began chatting and catching up. After about 10 minutes the host with the beard, Chris approached us and brusquely asked us if he could help us. He seemed positively annoyed. I greeted him warmly and told him we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. He rudely pointed at a table across the restaurant and told us that they had already been seated. His tone was rude with an air of hostility. He clearly should not be a host at this establishment. My cucumber and mint salad was excellent but my main course (halibut) was over cooked leaving the dish dry and barely edible. I would expect much more for a $39 piece of fish. I won't be returning to Beach Road. Don't believe the hype. read more

I had the whole Black Sea bass which was very good and dh had the blue fin tuna which he said delicious but looked like a appetizer portion. Wow! Amazing! Superb! We had a dinner with friends and enjoyed everything we ordered. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and welcomed us from the moment we entered. We started with fried clams, Mexican corn and summer salad. Everything was fresh, in season. The clams were the best we ever had and the corn just melted in your mouth We ordered a basket of Leslie's bread honey salted whipped butter which didn't last My son tried the Campechena and it was something special which is saying a lot coming from a chef. He also tried a charred cabbage special which was out of the world I had the mussels which was in a perfect blend of saffron and chorizo broth very light salty savory and great for dipping The mussels were perfectly cooked. My husband and friend had the halibut which cut like butter and exploded with flavor It came with a side of sticky rice topped with kimchi which ate like a fluffy polenta And for dessert we had whiskey pudding and chocolate delice Enough said With a wonderful wine list, a beautiful view, music that was just loud enough so you could enjoy and still hear conversation at the table and a wonderfully attentive staff, and amazing food, Beach Road is a must. read more
