Love this place…read more This place isn't fancy, but it's honestly one of my favorite spots to stay. I've been back several times--it's such a hidden gem. Every room has an ocean view, it's right on the beach, and the staff is super friendly. They offer a simple breakfast, everything is clean, and even with the rustic charm, it still feels really comfortable. It's dog-friendly too, which I love. The vibe is just so chill--nothing pretentious. You see people fishing, hanging out, having drinks, families and dogs enjoying the beach... just good, normal people. The back deck is perfect, there's easy parking, a fridge in the room, and even a parrot to greet you when you check in. Can't say enough good things--can't wait to come back!

My trip coincided with the full moon, and I spent a good part of the evening strolling the beach. I decided to sleep with the curtains open and got to watch the sunrise over the water before even getting out of bed. The bed itself was comfy, the internet was speedy, and, thanks to the kitchenette, I was able to save money by cooking during my stay. I also appreciated the warmth of the staff, who kindly stored my backpack while I ran a road race between checking out and catching the commuter rail. If you're a fan of the ocean and of cozy settings, this may well become your favorite inn anywhere!

The ~4000 acre forest has a dedicated entrance to the campground with several rangers assigned to it. The sites can be extremely spacious and isolated or be smaller and more social. It really is your choice. Safe swimming, fishing, bike riding, and hiking are abundant. The educational programs are posted, including weekly hikes, bike rides, and fishing lessons (they provide everything for novices). They even have a bonfire on Sat. nights during the camping season. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and are typically in excellent condition, including free showers and hot water. A donation is requested for the mandatory kiln-dried firewood ($5/bundle or $10/3 bundles). All sites have potable water. No sites have electricity. Alcohol is prohibited (and this is posted prominently). People who get caught drinking (typically because they are obnoxious) are asked to leave immediately. The state police barracks is just down the road, so help is nearby if others get rowdy. It is amazing to really be in the woods so close to Boston. Booking a site in advance online is highly recommended; walk-ins/drive-ups are permitted if there is space available. The fees are extremely reasonable ($12/night).

Since they decided to wait 1.5 YEARS to respond, I'll add additional information as well. 3 days after we left, my father ended up in the hospital for 4 days with pneumonia. I attribute that directly to the poor conditions of the rental. I live in a 100+ year old home. There is no reason for the conditions we experienced except for laziness and improper maintenance. Send pics of the rectified issues and I'll consider removing the review.

Patty was very easy to work with on the scheduling and was very responsive to my questions. We ended up renting both of their rooms. They have one in their home on the 2nd floor with a queen-sized bed with a separate bathroom and small sitting room (that has a refrigerator, breakfast table/chairs, coffee maker, toaster, etc). This room has it's own entrance and separate locking door for privacy. The other room is a studio apartment with a queen-sized bed, bathroom, small kitchen (same as the other room plus a sink & range). Both rooms had a tasty breakfast awaiting us (fresh local bread, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, etc). We had lots of privacy and an overall great experience, highly recommended to others looking for an affordable alternative to the overpriced hotels in the area.

We chose the Dragonfly because we had a wedding to attend at an Inn down the street. Plus, I have…read morean affinity for dragonflies....so the name called to me. When we drove up to the property we were kindof surprised......there is not a sign for the "Inn" at all. The property is basically a private house in a nice neighborhood in Gloucester. Patty was working in the yard, as we had called her to tell her about when we would arrive. The yard and inside of the house were both clean and welcoming. We had the room upstairs with the private bath. The bedroom was very small, but bright, clean and the bed was comfortable. Loved the bright, airy bathroom with the jet tub. The only negative about the bathroom.....each time I used the shower or tub the water was only lukewarm. The little eating "galley kitchen" area was very very small. The table and chairs were an iron garden type set. My husband, being a big guy at 6'3..... could in no way fit comfortably in that space. There was a coffee pot ready to go for the morning which was nice, and a small college sized fridge and toaster. The foods available were English muffins with butter, fruit, yogurt and small boxes of cereal with milk. OJ and bottles of water. So, even though the website said continental breakfast ....it was very minimal with not a lot of choices. And the space was so small...we just ended up going to out breakfast each morning. The other thing that we did not really like was that we were never really shown around the house or told which parts of the noise we could go into. Maybe because we were not allowedto do that. From what it looked like to us, this was a family home, with rooms that were being rented out...more like a guest house situation....but we seriously question if the place should be advertised as an "Inn." We felt, with the little breakfast area tucked up on the second floor, right next to our room, that we were supposed to stay In only that area of the house. There was a large living room to the left when you came in the downstairs door, and we never saw anyone in there, but we got the impression this was the family living room. We heard people in the home, but never saw anyone, except what may have been family or friends coming in and out the front door. You should also know that they have a dog, who we did see upon coming in the door several times, and we also saw him sleeping on the couch in the living room. He did not come upstairs as a far as we knew. Patty also does not accept credit card payments...so you need cash or a check. Overall, we felt it was sort of an odd set up.....as far as the space and the fact we felt we needed to stay our room. Minimal breakfast. This definantely should not be advertised as an "Inn." However, for our two days we slept in a comfortable, clean, quiet place that does have it down unique charm. Soft sheets and soft comfy towels with lots of body products in the bathroom. Patty left us a bottle of wine which was a really nice touch. I don't mean to give a negative review...as it was not a bad experience, just not quite what we expected. Would have liked an actual breakfast room area and more of a feeling of freedom in the house. We really felt like we were intruding on a family home. If you are looking for an affordable, safe, clean place to rest your head this is it. The area is expensive and this was an affordable option for us. If you are looking for a true "inn" experience with choices at breakfast and room to spread around, this may not be it.
