Such a cool little motel right on the beach. Super relaxing, very cozy and great views of the beach. The entire staff there was excellent. Make sure to say hi to the parrot.

I was so suprised to see the negative reviews I had to add my own comments to give a more balance viewpoint. 1) Location - finding a motel right ON the beach in New England is very rare. This place's location is awesome. Finding any place near the water that is open year around is next to impossible. Pity, because our October stay was made even better because hardly anyone else was there. 2) Price - come on, you're staying right ON the beach. Their highest rate at top season for an oceanview room is $170. That is NOT expensive. We paid $85 for a corner room with a spectacular view. You can hardly find a Motel 6 in Iowa for that. 3) Cleanliness - it's a beachfront motel, what were you expecting? Our room was clean but I wasn't expecting it to look like a Hilton. Did she say she had dogs in the room but complained it was dirty? Huh? 4) Friendliness - absolutely! We felt like guest's in a private home. Very nice staff. The lobby is much more than that, it is an inviting rustic living room with fireplace where you can hang out with a cup of coffee and chat with the hosts. We were "lucky" during our visit that it was bitter cold and the ocean was roaring. We sat on the deck wrapped in double blankets for hours watching the moonlit surf. What a bargain for $85. When it was bedtime, the room was nice and warm and cozy. I can't imagine not likeing the Cape Ann Motor Inn unless the only places you ever stay are Five Star resorts.

What a gem on a private beach. Every room has a balcony and perfect ocean view! Staff was polite and rooms were very clean. Dog friendly but does not have a dog smell. Close to Rockport and Downtown. Views of light houses. We will definitely go back and highly recommend.

Favorite place to stay! Beautiful view, on the beach and small kitchenette. Staff is wonderful. Clean rooms and showers. Honeymoon suite is out of this world!!

Beach access is great but the rooms can be on the small size. Behind the desk help is very good.

Very clean, no other hotels/motels on top of you - great price for area, actually as close to The more "hip" Rockport as it is to Gloucester (which is more my laid back scene anyway).

We signed a 3 year lease spending the 1st year there mostly on weekends and occasional days during the week, once we made it our single home after selling our house over a year ago reality set in. A lot of people will think they want to live at their favorite vacation spot until you live with the reality of random people who can & will walk/run by your living room sliders just feet away from your so called privacy at all times of day and night, it is a motel... When we were 1st there the night sky was amazing until an enormous flag went up that needs enormous lights to illuminate it every night. Then once the property owner's primary home was reportedly (by him) auctioned off he moved his family into one of the homes, (the former renters of that unit had a year plus lease, apparently they bailed within a few months), shortly after that the ongoing state of construction seemed to increase. With the heavy equipment and contractors trucks / trailers coming and going we woke one morning this past spring to the back of my wife's SUV having the rear corner punched in, we surely could not confirm that it happened in the parking lot so the next day I put a web cam pointing out back..damage done but we at least tried to be more careful. Dogs are (seemingly) not allowed on the property but one day earlier this year his contractor's 70lb dog came bounding into our open door (I thought we couldn't have dogs in the home!!). We love dogs and the dog was a known frequent guest on the property while the newest building was going up. We dodged a bullet with the just announced boil water alert for the surrounding area due to E Coli found in the water just recently! The positive is that the ocean view is great though being on the wrong side of RT1A you become very familiar with just how loud motorcycles can be and even worse the new trend of extreme stereo systems on some bikes. Again, short stay vs long stay. We creatively "negotiated" our way out of the lease conveniently before the cold winter months started and we have the mutually agreed lease termination document to prove it (one of the landscapers told my wife that he was sorry to hear that we were evicted?? A family member of mine heard the same story from a mutual friend that has absolutely nothing to do with any party involved. Where did this defaming lie originate?) Any way we left wondering how we stayed in such cramped space as long as we did! We have returned to being home owners once again and live just miles from the old Crown Colony. For future vacations that are near $3k for a week my wife and I can stay all inclusive in the Caribbean resort with food/drink & airfare included!

I can only imagine how wonderful a stay in the summer would be. Picture sipping your coffee at the kitchen table while watching the waves crash outside your door. Grab your binoculars and watch the lobster boats or wildlife out on the ocean. Work off lunch with a long walk along the almost four mile long sandy beach, or maybe, like me, your idea of a great day is just curling up in a comfy chair with a good book in front of the fireplace. After staying in this house, however you imagine spending your time at the beach, this will be the house you imagine. There are hardwood floors, granite counter tops, a huge new downstairs shower, totally outfitted kitchen, two gas fireplaces, and a wrap around porch that lets you watch sunrise over the ocean in the morning with your coffee and sunset over the salt marsh in the evening with a glass of wine. Trust me. Once you stay here this WILL be the beach house of your dreams. Thank you Rich and Jean for another wonderful and relaxing visit.

If we had any questions or concerns, Richard responded in more than a reasonable amount of time. We look forward to staying there again.

They also have a laundromat on site. There are a few studio efficiencies, no stoves in these but there are decks on both the front and back, so you can catch the sun rise over the ocean, and sunset over the river. Charcoal grills are available in the yard; you provide the charcoal and maybe some aluminum foil for the grill. There are several two bedroom houses and a few 3 bedrooms. The houses have full kitchens. We usually bring plenty of food: prepared if we are staying in an efficiency so we can heat them up in the microwave. The kitchens have a table large enough for the number of guests each house sleeps. The living room has sofa's, comfy chair, end tables, coffee table and TV. In the summer there are fans. In the winter there is a gas fireplace. Most everything you would need in the kitchen is provided: plates, cups, flatware, coffee maker, toaster, pans, spatula for cooking, mixing bowl, cutting board, etc. It's often mismatched, but it's all there. Sometimes there are a couple of wine glasses too. I usually bring a few items of my own, like my coffee cup, just because I prefer my own, as well as storage items like aluminum foil or plastic storage bags and paper towels. If I haven't pre-prepped food I plan to cook, I'll bring my own chef's knife as those are not provided. Basically anything I want to be sure of, I bring. They provide dish towels, sponge and dish soap. The bathroom has soap and toilet paper. The office provides sheets and towels. The guests are required to clean before leaving: sweep floors, vacuum carpets, wash dishes and put them away, strip the beds. The staff will clean the restrooms and leave new linens for the next guests. Towels can be delivered daily if needed. Just call the office. The cliff face is eroding and some of the RV parking spots have fallen into the ocean as has the roadway, which once made a loop along the cliff, creating two dead-end streets. The beach on the river side is stones that have been placed there to help reduce erosion. If you walk toward the river on the left side of this beach (it's a 'cove beach'), the area becomes more sandy. If you continue around to the left, you can walk along the river and marshlands. There are picnic tables 'here and there' provided by 4th cliff. We sometimes bring our coffee down here in the early mornings. Additionally, you can walk along the beach, around the end of the cliff, to the ocean side of the property. Once you get past the cliff face, the beach is sandy, although there may be a number of rocks in the water. Because of the rockiness of the beach areas in general, do bring your water shoes to save your toes. This ocean facing beach is used by homeowners along Central Ave. and there is plenty of space for everyone. At low tide, you can wander around the rocky areas and find all kinds of sea creatures in among the stones. The recreation area includes a small shop in the office building for things you may have forgotten and souvenirs, however, during the pandemic, the office is not open to guests. If you are military, this is a pleasant spot for a vacation along the water. Located in the little village of Humarock, within Scituate, there is a small restaurant where Central Ave meets Marshfield Ave. You can grab a morning coffee, breakfast or lunch here. A small 'beach shop' to get the floats, souvenirs and other things you may want is locate across the street on the other side of the intersection (think diagonally). Access to the public beach is here, however parking is not abundant, so maybe bring your bikes and take the ride down if you'd like to use this beach access. There is an Irish pub just a little further along on Marshfield Ave and a larger restaurant on the other side of the bridge where Marshfield Ave turns into Sea Street. (Check their policy during Covid - they may be 'take out' only) There is a convenience store/liquor store in this area. A grocery store is on Rt 139 at the intersection of Furnace St. And if those restaurants are not enough for you, drive into Scituate for one of the many food options they have available. We also make it a point to stop for a walk at one of the many Audubon or conservation areas nearby. There is a lighthouse in Scituate, and a marina on the North River where you can stop for a beverage and light meal while sitting outdoors on the river if that appeal to you. Plenty to keep you busy.

This review is specifically for the Oceanfront Breakfast Cafe…read more While we have stayed at the Inn several times, we continue to come back for the Breakfast Cafe. When they say the best breakfast in Gloucester, it's not an exaggeration! The couple that owns the Inn/Cafe are very hospitable and welcoming people. I've been visiting for the past 15+ years and every stay and meal has always been exceptional. Additionally, the staff they hire and employ is equally committed. It is truly a five-star operation. We were recently up in the area visiting Gloucester and Rockport. As always, one of those mornings meant we had to stop at Atlantis Oceanfront Cafe! It is a MUST. I almost hate letting this gem/secret out. It is the best place for breakfast with the very best view. It is post-card perfect. Your window table overlooks the rocks+water and you can visually see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. It doesn't get much more picturesque or scenic than that! While the menu has changed a bit since my last visit, the quality has not. The breakfast portions are very generous and everything is of the highest quality. Our favorite is the eggs Benedict. Those perfectly poached eggs resting on top of those bakery-quality English muffins. The tender Canadian bacon. The perfect amount of creamy, perfectly seasoned hollandaise sauce. The side of tender and perfectly seasoned breakfast potatoes. It doesn't get any better than that in my book! Another favorite of mine is their GIANT Fresh Blueberry Pancakes. They remind me greatly of every childhood trip to the Atlantis and Gloucester. I've always told my family if I had to have one last breakfast, let's hope Atlantis Cafe is in season! I am not joking either! Service is always top priority. Friendly and expeditious. The kitchen is open to the dining room and their culinary takes true pride in every plate they put out. If you're looking for the best breakfast with the best view in Gloucester, Atlantis Oceanfront is the place. I did notice the secret has gotten out as of late! We did have a short 15-minute wait this last visit. Parking can also be challenging given the lot size and guest/staff vehicles parked for the Inn. The patience is worth the reward! Best Breakfast in Gloucester. Period. Wonderful, Involved Owners.

The coffee nice a hot, good cup of joe. 5/5 Fish cakes and eggs - I wanted to try something unique and they had this spectacular dish on menu. The fish cakes contained fresh chunks of fish and was seasoned just right. It wasn't too salty so went well with the spinach. The home fries were good and eggs over easy were done perfectly. The soft egg yolk broke and oozed just fine over the fish cakes. Definitely will come back again for breakfast when in the area.
