I have not gone to a BD's since early college. The restaurant is very clean and service was fast. I was greeted at the door and by the general manager, Jason. We were seated at a booth right away. Pretty much think of this as a chipotle, but for hibachi style. You pick all your raw ingredients and they cook it for you. You start with your carbs (if you want any), proteins, veggies, and then sauces. It can be overwhelming, but super fun! I mean you're pretty much making and seasoning your own meal without having to cook it or clean the dishes! There is something for everyone here from vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free / dairy free choices. If you make a bad combo of things, you can't really blame the people making it. It's $22.99 for unlimited bowls or $17.99 for one. Truly not that badly priced depending on how much you eat. I get overly excited and try to squeeze as much in a bowl. We also tried the premade Hong Kong chicken bowl. It had decent flavor, but the noodles were doughy and the texture was completely off. First post-Covid visit, one of my first dine-in experiences since. Not as different as I thought it would be. You go up to the ingredient area, someone behind it fills a bowl with whatever you pick, and they drop it off at the grill. Then your waiter brings it to the table. They were busier than I expected, mid-week and mid-afternoon. Staff were great in terms of precautions, but I was the only customer there with a mask (out of 20 or so.) Still a good meal, with your choice of fresh ingredients. Might have been slightly fewer meat and veggie choices than normal. read more

I have been coming to BD Mongolian restaurants for decades. The principle is the same as Teppanyaki: your choice of everything is prepared in front of you. Today I stopped in the one in Dublin after doubling back to get to 315, and I was immediately taken aback by "sticky notes". Apparently, now you pick your meal, take it to the center stone, and return to your seat where your meal will be brought to you. Now I ask you: Where's the fun in that? I may lose my elite status for this, but here goes honesty. Whoever thunk up this idea needs to be put to the rack. The whole point of Mongolian style or Teppanyaki is the ambiance and experience. It's fun! Similarly-themed restaurants have returned to full-service post-COVID (I'm assuming that's what brought this impersonal approach on), so why hasn't BD? get with the program! Now, the positive:. The food hasn't changed a bit since my previous visit. Neither has my ability to mix sauces. I think I created a lethal mix of garlic/sesame and soy ginger. Ordered Mongolian chicken. Nothing on menu about hot spices in this dish. I always check I have food allergy. Was way too spicy to eat. Told the waitress and she did nothing. Was on the bill. The other parson who ordered the same and did not get the hot spices. I can't trust them to maintain consistent quality. They should take it off the bill, but they didn't. The hubs and I had been wanting to try this place for a long time. It ended up being a very different experience than the west coast Mongolian BBQ's we've been to. BD's is a sit down buffet restaurant. It's not just the Mongolian BBQ buffet, there's also a menu with appetizers, desserts, and adult beverages. The servers will take your order and then give you a bowl for the buffet line and bring you drinks, etc. They give you a post-it note for your bowl. Then you go down the buffet line and put everything you want in your bowl, go up to the circular counter where the chefs are cooking food on the flattop, and they assign a number for you to put your bowl down on. You're supposed to put your sticker in the spot, so the servers know what table to deliver it to. So totally completely different than what we're used to! Here you even put the raw meat in your bowl! The customers in the buffet line were really nice and gave us tips like putting the meat on the bottom, and the noodles on last so you get the most out of your bowl. There were tons of meats, veggies, noodles, and sauces to choose from. I put the sauces on top of everything (like I was used to doing). Apparently the norm here is to get the little sauce cups and fill them up with whatever you want on your food, and then set it in front of your number at the chefs counter, and then they add it when your food is almost finished cooking. Definitely a learning curve to this place, which is why I'm explaining to Yelpers how it works! My stir fry turned out great (though I made it *really* spicy. The side of white rice was very helpful. LOL). My hubby loved his stir fry too. He decided to add on the endless buffet and then made a pasta dish with marinara, sausage and meatballs because he wanted to see what it was like. He said he wouldn't do it again, but had fun trying it. I look forward to eating here again. The service was great too. She was very helpful when we told her it was our first time there. It is pretty expensive, at almost $20 for one trip to the buffet. You can add on the endless buffet for around $5 more. read more

Every once in awhile I get a craving for Mongolian bbq and have to make a trip here when I am in town. The concept is make your own stir fry.. you pick your protein and veggies, plus noodles if you'd like, then your sauces and any seasonings. Then you hand off your bowl to the cooks who grill it in front of you and return it to you. You can pay for either one bowl (I have mastered the art of balancing multiple eggs on top of my pile of meat for optimal value) or unlimited bowls for a few bucks more. It also comes with the soup and salad bar which isn't large but you can make yourself a decent side salad and they usually have two soups like chili and chicken noodle. You also get your choice of brown or white rice with your bowl and you can request tortillas and sour cream. While I have fond memories of this place, our visit this time wasn't bad at all, just seemed to lose some of its magic. Hardly anyone was in the restaurant. Our server was super nice, but those at the grill were kind of neutral. The salad bar had been picked over and was a bit haphazard too so I just skipped it this time. The bowls were still good, it really is up to you to make something delicious or not. Pay close attention to your sauce and seasoning combinations since that can make it or break it. Overall I was super full after one bowl and enjoyed the experience as always, but can't say I'll be running back anytime soon. read more

Tables were sticky. Fried rice tasted like it was made with dirty dish water. The bbq was charred. They don't clean the grill very well at all. So you get charred bits of other people's food. The crab rangoon was super doughy. Even though only one or two bites were taken they still charged for the entire meal although they did takeoff my girlfriends. This place is one of my all time favorite places to go here in Columbus and any time that I have an out of town friend visit I always take them here and they always absolutely love it and want to go back the next time they are in town. The dining experience is awesome, they seat you and, if you have never been there before, they will explain to you how it all works. You get a bowl, go get your meats at a buffet like table, then you get your veggies, then you get some sauce in a small cup, then last get some spices. The secret to getting a lot is to get the veggies FIRST, then the meats second. Sure people form a line and go down the line but it's not really a line, no more than a buffet, you go to wherever you want and get what you want. By adding veggies first you can then stack meat real high and the meat is not going to roll off. If you want shrimp or other smaller meats like that then form a little bowl with your veggies and stack all that in the center. The suggestion at the place is not to mix meats but it's just a suggestion, and I always get at least a couple of different meats. If you don't like the food here then you have only yourself to blame! I can help you make it better though with the following tips: 1. Get at least 3 containers of sauce. Or go to the salad bar and get a bigger cup that you can use for soup (a manager suggested this to me so you won't get into trouble) and then get a huge cup of sauce. The sauce is the key to making it taste good. 2. Add a lot of spices in to your sauce. It says not to use a lot of spice and of course if it's something like hot pepper flakes don't go crazy but in general I use a LOT of spices. 3. Get an egg, or even two, to make it more of a hearty meal. We love BD Mongolians, we try to get over there once a month or so and if you sign up for their Club Mongo you get a free bowl on your birthday so make sure to do that! I come to this location a lot. I don't like chain restaurants, but this one is small and I fell in love with it at OSU so I make the exception. The concept here is make your own stir fry. So if you don't like what you get, you're basically the one to blame. For a few dollars more, you get unlimited bowls. If you come a lot, I recommend signing up for their frequent diner rewards. It manages to about 1 free meal every 10, wit a free meal on your birthday and at least at this location, double points on Tuesday. I like the food. The service can stink sometimes, though. With stir fry and spicy food, you want plenty of refills and you do observe servers tending to their side duties or neglecting the party of one for bigger tables with the thought of bigger tips, like my server today had done. I love BD's however, this location has ramped up the heat on their griddle so much that the sauce and food burns. The first time it happened, I thought surely this was a mistake... happened again with my next bowl and I thought... maybe the grill is dirty today. BUT a month later it happened again, only this time I over heard the table next to us ask "what's this black stuff in our food?" And the waiter said "it's just flavoring from the grill"... really??? Anyways; because they are cranking through the food on the griddle so fast all the veggies are so raw and the seasoning doesn't get mixed in when thrown last on the grill. Went here this afternoon for dinner. It wasn't very busy so we got seated right away by a guy that was super friendly. Our server was out soon after we were seated and she was also friendly. Since covid, you no longer have to stand at the grill and wait for your food. They write your name and table number on a sticky note and someone will bring it to you. It's a nice idea and convenient that you don't have to stand there waiting. Had not been here in years, more like 15 years! Just moved to Ohio a few years earlier. Anyway, very busy place. They were short handed and the bartender was also our awesome waitress! I had an issue and the male manager was on it! Nick I think his name was. Then I mentioned something about the restroom and told me to chat with the female manager. She was awesome, and so happy to help and jumped right on it! The waitress was prompt, busy , more like swamped with 5 tables of her own and bartending at the same time. Very polite, everyone there seemed like they truly enjoyed working there. I was very impressed. It may be a long time since I go there again but for surely they need a huge shout out on their service. They take pride in their jobs. A very admirable trait in an employee. Food was delicious and the trays at the buffet were never empty. They were prompt and delivered hot out of the oven food. Their salad bar was also in good shape. Most are not these days. I always love these style of restaurants. This was my first time to this location. We drove up to check out the area. My daughter and I love Mongolian BBQ but this was Tony's first trip and now he is hooked planning his next visit even as we push out our joints. I used to like to go to BD's a lot more. It's really fun to make your own food and you can put in there however much you feel like. There are lots of vegetarian choices to choose including tofu. It has lots of sauces to choose. The worst thing is the price which keeps increasing so we're not eating there as much. It costs more than $10 for a meal. It's not cheap but you can get all you can eat for $2 more so you should do it. There are so many choices to put in the bowls. It's best to come here really hungry so you can get your money's worth. The cooks will make it in front of you so you can rest easy knowing they won't be able to spit in it. Along with the stir fry they also have salad and soups. These are pretty mediocre so there's no need to spend more on top of the cost of the stir fry. I would come here when really hungry to get the unlimited option. It makes it easier to swallow the cost along with all that food. The staff is really helpful for those with special diet needs and making choices with proteins and sauces. read more

Now we both get free meals on our birthdays. Now they offer unlimited on your birthday, but in order to take your second bowl home you have to pay $2.99. Still worth it. Just like always, we started something. The place only had about 10 tables when got here and now it is packed. Twenty-five plus tables including a huge party of about 15-20. We came in on a Wednesday night since it was college night we said heck yeah, with my ID I got my husband $11.99 unlimited dishes. I hadn't been to BD's since 2010 when I took my husband and some friends there just to meet for dinner and a movie at the Greene in Dayton. I guess my last visit there wasn't that great because neither my husband and I have been back here since now. I used to love it in the past, but something has changed about it, I cannot put my finger on what it is. Either me or the restaurant. Recently my husband met someone who worked for BD's and he went on about how great the food has been since he's managed it. So he said to heck with it, we are coming here for dinner Wednesday night and trying it again to see if it's any better since Dayton. I guess I ate a bit too much or something but my stomach was really hurting after my second dish. I cannot blame the restaurant so much, it's been a while, therefore I haven't really eaten it for 6 years and I could have changed my preferences in food. I'm not sure why this location has very few customers but service is also a little slow too so that could a explain a little. I guess if more people wanted this food they'd eat it but they don't want BD's they won't come here. The restaurant business has changed drastically since food trucks and other businesses have appeared in Ohio. I remember when this was the place to come to in the past and now, it's like dead. I would only come if I were hungry but the price of one plate on just a typical night is more than the newer and better concept restaurants.
