Stopped by to check out BBQsmith this week since I have been waiting patiently for them to open. They've got a pretty good menu including tacos and sandwiches with smoked meats, and some BBQ sides like greens and beans. I ordered the pulled pork taco with a side of garlic braised kale. The taco was a decent size and well put together. The meat was tender and delicious. At $3 it was a little pricey for 1 taco, but given the tasiness I'll gladly be back to try another. The garlic braised kale was served cold with a small amount of carmelized onions on top giving a nice somewhat sweet flavor to balance out the bite of the kale and garlic. It was a good size for $2. They also offered some lemonade and half iced tea/half lemonade which I didn't try this time but will. The staff was friendly and when I asked for a suggestion she was happy to help and answer questions. I'll be back to try more options. read more

I came here with some coworkers during the lunch hour rush in the Financial District. Since I'd tried Clover and BonMe on other occasions, I decided to give BBQsmith a shot. I overheard a guy talking about how the Slawich is really damn good. Fortunately for me, he knew what he was talking about. It was really damn good. The bun was soft with a slight crunch on the outside. It's medium sized but the BBQ pork, slaw and garlic pickles were overflowing. The slightly sour slaw coupled with the sweet BBQ sauce makes a perfect combination. I know many people hate the fatty portions of the pork, but I think the sweet softness makes it the best part. The garlic pickles didn't have much garlic taste. I would have preferred regular pickles. It's a $6 slawich so I'd say that's normal price for a food truck sandwich. read more

BBQ Sandwich serving food truck right by the mouth of Chinatown. Pros: Great bbq sandwiches. The bread is amazingly soft on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. The bbq chicken was smoked and seasoned just right. The 50 cent Blondie tastes great...um I'm not talking about a Rap Groupie Chick...it's dessert :) Cons: Pricey. I would suggest to knock off $1 or even $1.50 off all menu items....why? cause it's a food truck! The Veggie Taco with Goat Cheese needs some work...the kale was all bunched together and I hate eating most of that first and then rest of the taco. But I'll be back for sure. read more

I love this place as a more enjoyable alternative to metro salad bar or other neighboring food trucks. For main dishes, I have had both the pork and the beef plates. I found both to be more than ample for a lunch time meal (lots of main dish + 2 sides). For sides I have enjoyed the potato salad and the greens sautéed in olive oil and garlic. read more

Someone at this truck/company must have read my last review, because they've organized the menu. It's much more legible now and actually makes sense. Sandwiches are under *gasp* Sandwiches! It's a vast improvement. I know, I know, you guys working here were going for some quirky-ubran vibe with that old menu design, but it plain sucked. - Today, I got the BBQ Pork sandwich. It's a hefty meal: $6 bucks for a lotta pork in a watery BBQ sauce on a big hunk of wheat bread/roll. Soft onions were a nice compliment to the meat, and I liked the pickles, too. What I didn't like, was the enormous chunks/slabs of FAT in this thing. I was eating it, thinking it was the soft onions that were mush in my mouth: After closer examination of the contents within, I learned I was eating FAT. And I know, that for street food, one should expect fatty bits, etc. But for a casual lunch before I head back to my desk, I don't want to have eaten giant chunks of pork fat as my lunch. I picked them out and ate the rest. The meat was nice. Cooked well enough. The "BBQ Smith Sauce" was garbage. Not a strong enough flavor and it was watery. Made the sandwich, like everything else here, really messy to eat. Even now, there is a slight aftertaste of liquid smoke hanging on there. It ain't the real deal, kids. - Next time, I'll stick to the predictably messy, yet devoid of fat-chunks, tacos. read more

FOOD TRUCK. For a $7 sandwich I expect something hearty. The "greenway" sandwich had well cooked redbeans with large unmanageable chunks of collard, and a spicy mustard. The roll was obviously fresh with soft center and crusty outside, but the portion of gouda was stingy. Otherwise vegetarian options are minimal. Maybe the $3 tacos are better. I've been fascinated that someone decided it would be a good idea to put a American BBQ food truck on the edge of Chinatown (right by the Gate). So, I dropped today to pick up a pulled pork sandwich for lunch. The pork was tender, moist and delicious. The sandwich was served on multi-grain bread. Personally, I prefer my BBQ sandwiches to be served on white bread, but the bread was nicely crusty, with a soft center. The pickled hot peppers gave it a nice kick, and the sauce was tart and sweet. The only quibble I have is that I like my BBQ smoky and it wasn't quite as smoky as I'd like. I also got the watermelon lemonade. It was great and worth a special trip. It was that good. Yeah, I'd go to BBQsmith again. read more

The Greenway Sandwich is super tasty! I don't know why I never thought of combining BBQ pulled pork and collard greens on a bun but whoever did had a stroke of genius. I also recommend the Chicken Chips (Fried Chicken Skin), Kale & Garlic, & the Arnold Palmer (1/2 Lemonade & 1/2 Ice T). Items are very filling and I have a feeling that a lot of people over-order. I had the opportunity to check out the food truck at the SOWA Open Market on Mother's Day (this was after I had my cupcake at "Kick Ass Cupcakes") I know, I know, I had dessert before my entrée, but hey sometimes you just have to do things differently. Anyway after reviewing the menu I asked the server what she recommended, the taco or the sandwich. She said if I was looking for the true bbq experience she would recommend the sandwich. I took her advice and ordered the smoked bbq chicken sandwich. The smoked chicken was piled high the roll, the garlic pickles were crisp, the onions were soft and tasty and the sauce was very flavorful. I should mention their bbq is not the traditional red bbq sauce but it is soooo delicious. The sandwich was $6.00 which is a little pricey but overall I think it was worth it. The only downside to my visit was the very limited variety of drinks to choose from but that wouldn't keep me from going back. read more

Outstanding. The best food truck in Boston in my opinion. Excellent and creative cooking with high quality ingredients. Prices seem right in line to me given the obvious quality of the food. The pork is totally legit. Beans and cole slaw are both terrific. You can't go wrong here. Also note: these guys do catering. We hired them for a party of 25 people. Cannot speak highly enough. Incredible food, generous amounts (we were eating for the rest of the week), extremely professional in terms of timing, setup, etc. They are pros. They pull off original and delicious twists on the traditional dishes. Just a few highlights: tiny bits of serrano ham atop the deviled eggs, rich baked white beans with rosemary, homemade pickles and pickled jalapenos, cole slaw with sesame, homemade rosemary lemonade, and of course pulled pork. read more

The truck was actually parked in front of the Aquarium when we got food from there. I ordered the pork sandwich, which was good but lacking in some flavor that I expect from a bbq place. My husband got the greensway and he enjoyed it. Overall, it was alright but could have been much better. read more

got the chicken sandwich and thought it was real tasty. the bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, which was a nice touch. i was a little unsure about the chicken "chips" as they were a little tough to chew at times. good smoked/bbq flavor though. good mayo type sauce, too, and I wish there was more of it. i'm curious to go back and check out the taco and side salads. It's hard to find good Southern barbeque in the Boston area. The BBQsmith food truck delivers. I got lunch here last year when BBQsmith would frequent Dewey Square. The pull pork was really good. It was nice and tender but not mushy. The collard greens were really tasty. I wish they were around more. They never seem to be nearby when I'm looking to get lunch from a food truck. read more

One fine summer afternoon, I spotted a food truck near the Copley T stop, and was thrilled to find it was a TACO truck. There are very few circumstances in which I would say no to tacos. So I ordered a chicken taco,. Famished, I took a bite right away. It was a pretty good chicken taco. But then... I tasted something different, crunchy, delectable. What WERE these crisps of joy? I scanned the ingredient menu that was printed on the truck. Then I saw it. Chicken chips. Chicken "chips?" Fried up little pieces of crispy chicken skin. Genius. read more

My son and I hung out waiting for the truck to begin serving. There is free wifi in the greenway, a nice perk. We both had pulled pork sandwiches, delicious! $6 is a great deal! Ive been itching to try this food truck (since im a huge advocate of the Boston food truck movement) and theres always a long line when I walk pass to get to Chinatown. I bought one each of the chicken and pork tacos, thinking I'd be stuffed, but upon receipt, i was shocked at 1) the ridiculously small size of the tacos and 2) the incredible amount of grease dripping out of the wrapper. But surprisingly, the tacos tasted pretty delicious - not necessarily a BBQ smoked flavor, but still a good tangy southwestern sauce with moist meat. However, at these prices, there's better taco/BBQ options elsewhere. read more

I was excited to check out their food truck today at the SOWA Market (their 1st time there). I got the smoked chicken sandwich and my friend got the veggie taco. We both really enjoyed our food. My sandwich was very flavorful and had a nice combination of textures. The combination of ingredients was delicious! The veggie taco had kale, which my friend really liked (I took a small bite of the kale and it was yummy). I'd be happy to continue to support this food truck! read more

I was excited to try BBQsmith because everything on the menu sounded delicious. I got two pork tacos and they were quite tasty, but not exactly what I expected. I knew, being BBQ, that they'd be different but I was still a bit surprised. They are served in flour tortillas: these tasted good, but with the wetness of the meat they seemed a little doughy. The meat was very good. It was tender, well flavored (though not in your face, smokey BBQ), and not fatty. However, I didn't specifically notice the presence of the condiments listed on the menu: though I'm sure they were there in some way contributing to the well-rounded taste of the taco, their presence was more like a sauce. I was expecting more veggies in the taco and I think they could benefit from the crunch of a pico de gallo or fresh salsa, which would also fill them out a bit. Now that I know what to expect I might not be bothered by this as much, though, as the flavor was very good. My other two 'complaints': I found the way the tacos were served to be awkward. They were tightly wrapped in paper. Maybe this is great for people running back to the office, but I wanted to eat mine right there and a little paper plate or tray would have been better. Maybe have a 'for here' option? It would have been a disaster if I couldn't find a place to sit and had to juggle them. Lastly, the price point is just a tad high, especially for the tacos. After $6 I was still hungry. I might get one again as a snack, but I wouldn't plan on making a meal out of a couple. My bf got a sandwich and seemed more satisfied. All in all, I would get BBQsmith again if I came across it and was hungry, but I wouldn't go far out of my way to get to it. read more

Solid. Better than expected. It's the kind of place that if I see the truck and I've already eaten I'll go anyway just because I don't know when I'll have the chance again. Food is prepared by real chefs. The menu is concise but packs a punch. Besides the awesome BBQ- I really like the chicken sandwich with yogurt-sauce thing. Def. check it out. Not a ton of food and even for $6 this seemed pretty weak. I was still hungry after eating, not generally a good sign. The line moved, but not as fast as a lot of the other trucks in the area. You wait almost as long to get your food after you place an order as you do to place it in the first place. Ended up waiting 20 minutes for a three bite sandwich and we got there before the lunch rush kicked in. The three bites were good, I will give them that. Good flavor packed into a small amount of food. The pork was well cooked, just needed more of it. Complete detour on the review, but who in their right mind still serves Moxie? I have seen posters with Ted Williams pitching this from way back in the day, but that drink is dead. Had to make a detour just to get something potable. read more

they ran out of beef today. no beef tacos for me. it must have been divine intervention as it afforded me the opportunity to try their "greek" sandwich. BBQ chicken or pork on a fresh crusty roll with pickled cabbage, greek yogurt sauce, and wait for it...CHICKEN CHIPS! if you want more chicken chips for your buck, this is definitely the way to go. Two (2!) huge pieces of crispy smoky chicken skin cracklings! i don't know why they call this the Greek, it should clearly be the "Jewess" as any good Jewish gal knows how to enjoy rendered chicken fat in all its forms. Maybe they think it would be offensive, but it wouldn't. it would be an homage to Jewish culinary traditions of using every last glorious greasy grisly bit of the bird. read more

I stumbled upon BBQ Smith on their first roll up to the block a couple of Fridays ago. Between the two and a half of us in attendance we had a smoked chicken sandwich, pork sandwich, pork taco, coleslaw, and a couple of ridiculously delicious 50 cent blondies. Oh yeah - and half iced tea/ lemonade with rosemary simply syrup. Day One - -and these guys were doing a bang up job. Everything we ate was flavorful with interesting combinations. I thought the value was great ( stuffed with some bites left for later for under $10 a person at lunch seems pretty fair these days.) The owners and girl working the front were very enthusiastic and welcoming. From what I understand they went through a lot to get to that spot - I am excited to watch them grow there. This is a FOOD TRUCK review: I skipped the tacos because, as a Californian in New England, my high taco standards are rarely met (please, Yelpers, recommend places to me!). Are BBQSmith's tacos any good? I got the plate with pork, greens, and black beans (which I found to be an odd side for bbq). It was $9, which I find high for a truck - but food is generally more expensive anywhere in Boston. I have not had much bbq in Boston, so there might be some regional characteristics with which I am not familiar. I thought it was tasty -- definitely nicely slow-cooked tender pork and greens and there was a very un-bbq but very tasty fresh green salsa on the beans. I found the flavor profile unbalanced toward salty, but I am definitely willing to give them a second chance with a different dish. It was more like the Central-Californian Santa Maria/Bakersfield BBQ than southern or Midwestern to me -- perhaps this is New England BBQ? Not bad -- try it sometime when they're in Copley Square - definitely try it -- it seemed to have potential to me. Good -- but maybe it will get better? read more

This food truck is awesome! I recently tried it out for the first time at the SoWa market this past Sunday. After scoping out all the other competitor food trucks, I decided I had to try this joint. I love that their meat is all natural, without any hormones or antibiotics. I tried their bbq chicken taco and veggie taco. Both tacos were packed with tons of flavor and delicious. The service was great too, it was nice to be able to give my order to someone standing in front of the truck instead of yelling high up into the truck. I can't wait to go back and try their sandwiches and sides! read more
