We got the traditional, the wicked hot, and the sweet Italian sausages. My favorite was the wicked hot. The traditional didn't do much for me. I love all the peppers on it. When the Sox were finally breaking The Curse in 2004, nearly all the vendors around Fenway were jacking their prices up 30-40% for their products, even resorting to gimmicky acts like getting local sports talk personalities to stand around their carts, thinking it'll drum up business. What'd the Sausage Guy do? Nothing. He kept his prices the same because he appreciated his customers and didn't need to gouge them for a fast buck. Even after they won again in 2007, the next year, when inflationary influence forced him to "jack" his rates up a buck, he still honored the customer and handed out "Sausage Guy VIP" cards at the beginning of the season, promising the same old $5. I live near by and my wife and I have been known to walk over to Sausage guy just to chow down on some superb sausage for dinner and go home. So basically these things are so damn good I will fight through a crowd of thousands of people, like a salmon swimming upstream, to buy these sausages. This is also the best drunk munchies you can ever have. Sausage guy makes his own sausages, and boy does he do a great job!! These are the perfect sweet Italian sausages, and the true test of a great Italian sausage stands out with the beautiful sweet notes of fennel permeating the meat. Here is a tip: If you want your peppers and onions under your sausage you need to ask for you sausage "city side" before he takes it off the grill. He also has a great logo. We also called the morning of the party and he said he could get there earliest by 3pm, when he was contracted to be there at 12pm!! When emailing with David at The Sausage Guy the next day, he tried to make up excuses saying that he was having family problem with his son, then trying to say it was our fault because we didn't want him to arrive at 3pm. Went to the cart on Lansdowne during a Sox game tonight. The sausage itself is quite good. Had a good savory flavor profile. The roll however was awful. Too long for the sausage, and way too puffy and bread-y and dry to compensate for the skimpy pepper and onion payload. IMO, the bun should never be longer than the sausage. I'd like to see a better quality bun. Sounds trivial perhaps but you gotta have a good bun. read more
