On the Macy's side of Summer Street, I spied a new (to me) food cart with the word "AREPA"…read moreemblazoned on all sides situated across from the Summer Street entrance to the Downtown Crossing T stop. Curious about their "sweet corn patties with mozzarella cheese" which were grilled on site (but seemingly bought packaged), I stopped despite the fact that I had recently consumed my lunch. For $4, I received a 'sandwich' wrapped in foil with a paper napkin cushioning my hand against the heat of the contents. It was about 4 inches in diameter, and fully heated through. It was reminiscient of a corny grilled cheese or a corny sauceless pizza. Since, hobbit-like, it was my 2nd mid-day meal, I couldn't believe I ate the whole thing, but then I figured it wouldn't reheat in a microwave all that well... It was a nice snack, but it is priced a little high to make it as a regular snack destination for me... more like a special sometime treat. PS - it is noted on the cart that the arepas are Gluten-Free.

The cheese must have been sitting out for a few days because it was so dry it wouldn't melt. Also the vendor was a huge dick to me. Got mad about me paying by card for a $6 order (that I'm 90% sure was advertised as $5) and mansplained credit card transactions to me. I was so jarred that I asked for my card back but he insisted on completing the transaction while complaining about cars payments the entire time. Do NOT eat here. You will regret it. If curious, this was the cart across from Boston Public Library.

As an adult I now eat tacos and burritos several times a week and now I feel like I should be called Mr Taco again. Because I eat this food so much, I feel like I am a good judge of burritos and tacos. With all that being said, I really enjoy this food. It is made fresh and is super tasty. Their hot sauce is flavorful but not too hot where you lose the flavor. They also put the correct amount of each item on their food. You go to some of these chain restaurants, and you are eating 90% rice and 8% cheese and 2% meat. Here they a great blend of veggies, cheeses, meats. As I mentioned above, I eat a lot of Mexican food and when I am in the Back Bay Area I only eat at this place. I have tried the rest of the fast food Mexican places in the mall and the surrounding area, and nothing comes close to them. I would have given them 5 stars, but they only take cash. Come on, it's 2018 you should take credit cards. If they took credit cards I'm sure they would have to get a double wide food cart because of all the extra business. Mr. Taco man out

Granted, this place is no NY midtown halal cart. ;)…read more But when I was a faceless downtown drone, I used to stare at the clock waiting for lunch hour to start so I could get my itty bitty taste of freedom from the over-air-conditioned maze of cubicles called my office. And in Downtown Crossing, there was a little kebab cart that did chicken kebabs on rice and salad with this unbelievable creamy dressing. I'd order the small chicken and salad, which came with plenty of chicken on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, green peppers, carrots, feta, and hot peppers. The chicken was always pretty dry, but throw it into a half pita with the salad and slather it in the creamy dressing - and BAM! Lunch was never the same again. Now I'm a faceless grad student, and I still stare at the clock waiting for lunch hour to start. Problem is, there's no kebab cart with creamy dressing waiting for me downstairs.

Their marketing department should really work on that ... Alas, for $6.00 (inc. tax) you can get a medium salad & chicken with a piece of pita bread thrown in the plastic bag. The salad is basically a few chunks of iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes, onions, green pepper, jalapenos, sprinkled with some feta. The chicken is good and filling, although a little dry. The best part of the deal is their thick, creamy dressing. I'm pretty sure it is TERRIBLE for you - think loads of butter / mayo / creamy goodness. But hey you're putting it on lettuce, so it's ok, right?

I had the pleasure of trying the Irish griller and the nachos, because, honestly, how can I resist nachos. Now, when I'd had corned beef before, it had only been from a can... so my expectations were not set particularly high. However, there's really no comparison between canned rubbish and this! Sandwich was nicely balanced and toasted (maybe grilled?) to perfection. There was a variety of textures and flavors to be found inside. There was a bit of cheesiness, but the stars on the plate were the slaw and the beef. The slaw was fresh with just the right amount of crunch, whereas the beef was tender and in just the right amount. I would have liked a little more sauce though, as I don't recall there being a whole lot of it. On the side perhaps? Also, and this is just me... but a little more cheese never hurts. Then there were the nachos... these fell short for me. As opposed to the thought put into the sandwich, these were like something a college student would throw together. Good nachos, in my opinion, are warm; whereas these were just chips for a bag with stuff thrown on top. The sauerkraut was quite nice, it that it wasn't overly sour. However, because this dish didn't move a thermometer, the beef and chips, and even cheese went together like oil and water. On top of that, the Thousand Island sauce didn't really work for me here. It might be great on sandwiches and salads, but not nachos.

It didn't hurt that the guys working were so sweet and kind. I would absolutely stop by their bus again if I ever see them out and about.
