I was craving for a hearty bbq meal. I was also planning to order a beer to go with my food because what else goes well with BBQ food, right? As I was ordering my food at the counter, I kindly asked the server if they also serve beer. His answer was, "yes, but we don't serve anything to go, so we can't pack beer to go." Me lol and shocked the kid even jumped to assumptions, "dang. I know Im an alcoholic but I was hoping you guys serve beers here while I enjoy my food." Last week I went to Kansas City on a business trip and planned to have dinner at KC's most iconic BBQ place, Joe's. I had the brisket and pulled pork there and a couple of sides. I expected given where I was and how iconic the place was the BBQ would be even better. This place in Kansas didn't hold a candle to the food at BBQ2U. Oh my wow, they did it! They nailed the brisket that I've been searching for since I was a kid. The smoky lean brisket that my dad used to make. Brought me to tears it was perfect! The pork ribs have such a moist smoky flavor, they pull right off the bone. The smoked turkey is fabulous, the sausage links have a little kick to them but it's just added flavor, my 8 yr old loves hem and she doesn't do spicy. Finally, a place with good okra around here! Having spent every summer in TX as a kid, okra is one of my comfort foods that I rarely find in these parts of the U.S. Potato salad is good, tastes homemade. Mac n cheese is very creamy....not your typical Kraft version. The banana pudding is just like what you could make at home without having to do clean up. Bravo BBQ2U! Well done! Decided to come here and grab take out lunch for my wife and I. We've always wanted to try the place but also read some of the reviews and was a bit skeptical but figured some of the reviews were a bit dated. The inside of the restaurant is small; but with COVID-19, they've got all the tables and chairs put away. *The staff is genuinely friendly. I'm not saying this to gain brownie points but I will say that walking into the restaurant and the way they greet you is like greeting an old friend. Menu is simple; broken down to your major meats-Beef, pork, chicken and turkey. Sides are your "usual suspects"-mac n cheese, baked beans, friend okra, fried pickles, fries, potato salad, etc. Their desserts were a Banana pudding and pecan pie. For this review, we'll do the Mac n Meat and the BBQ Boat. When I was ordering I asked the dude at the counter about size difference between the mini and medium so he was kind enough to show me-Medium it is! Since I myself was getting the boat, the Mac n Meat (sorry no picture) was for my wife but these guys shaved off a small portion of brisket for me to try. Man! That was mouth watering! Didn't taste the Mac and cheese but my wife did say it was good. Got the BBQ Boat; did not disappoint! The pulled pork was moist and flavorful; the beans were cooked nice and slightly sweet. The sausage (you have the option of original or jalapeño cheddar-went original in this case) was a nice addition with a hint of spice and the potato salad was a nice match to it. Would be nice to swap it with brisket though but it's all good. Now for dessert: I'm not a banana pudding kinda guy so I can't say how it tasted-I can say it looked freshly made and I take my wife's word that it was delicious. I myself had the pecan pie and was pleased that it was fresh and not bland. Definitely good ending to good BBQ lunch. Now to the BBQ, it's just hands down Texas quality I've tried a lot of things in the menu and nothing has disappointed me. My over all favorite for the value is the BBQ boat you get a lot for the price and variety, it's pretty much a bbq banana split. Service and Lobby Experience: The lobby is very clean and open. It is clear where the line should begin and they have a menu placed there so you can think about what you'd like to order before you get to the front. If you still aren't sure, the staff is extremely friendly and takes the time to explain the different options on the menu. They will also show you the cut of meat before they plate it so you can see exactly what you're getting. I was a little bit unsure of what I wanted to get and the staff suggested the spare ribs which were great. Food Experience: As I mentioned before, I got the Texas plate with 3 spare ribs, potato salad and mac and cheese. The spare ribs were amazing, very simple seasoning which really allowed the meat to shine. My dad also did a Texas plate with brisket, mac and cheese, and fried okra. He also ordered a beef rib ala carte. Everything was cut to order which was nice because you were able to pick which side of the brisket you'd like (he opted for the wet side) or how meaty you'd like your ribs to be. Overall Experience: We really enjoyed everything about our visit to BBQ2U and plan to come again the next time a Texas BBQ craving hits. We were really surprised by our visit tonight as the reviews were really good. Our experience was very different. The brisket was over cooked and dry, the Mac and Cheese was dry, the ribs were cooked perfectly, but were very greasy. The sausage was flavorless and dry as well. I went here at the beginning of May after hearing that this place was authentic bbq and the owners brought their knowledge from Texas. I will say the meet was cooked quite well and their brisket was seasoned perfectly. That's about all the praise I can give. Their sauce, which they only have one of btw, is halfway decent as it does go well on the brisket but is too sweet imho. There is zero heat to it and your only option to add heat is Tabasco and sriracha which is not ideal. I thought that being from Texas would at least bring the options of sweet and sweet heat, but I was wrong. Their nachos were good with the pulled pork and it was put together well, but again there's no heat to them and pickled jalapeños just aren't the right heat. Their chili was laughable at best as it's basically a vegetable broth. That was the most disappointing thing I had there. I've had chili in Texas and I know this owner knows that what they call chili is not chili. Nothing really to say about the service as it's pretty minimal other than just ordering your food but the people were nice. Atmosphere was ok but nothing to write home about. I was really hoping to finally get good bbq near me after all of my travels through Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, and Texas, but no such luck. If the owners want to know what I think could drastically improve their restaurant then I say diversify with more sauces like mustard based and sweet mesquite along with some sweet heat. Fix your chili. Like seriously just fix it. If you do those two things then I believe it could be a good spot because there isn't much around here for bbq and we desperately need it. There's one other spot in gig harbor that's just slightly better than this, but I have never in my life paid over $100 for bbq that subpar so I'd love it if this place made some improvements. Even take inspiration from pecos in Seattle for how to make a few improvements. read more

This place is fantastic. We kept hearing about how they support their community, promoting local kids sports and local authors. I wanted to try to support them for that reason. The brisket was tender and almost falling apart with a great dry rub, the chicken perfect. Sides were all spot on. Very good food, clean, not a lot of grease or fat. Very good sauce, not too spicy or sweet. We got the family tray for 3 adults with big appetites and a kid. At first I wasnt' sure if the portions were big enough but we could barely eat it all. $10 each not counting the kid. That's a good deal. But next time I'll get extra sides just for the leftovers. No need to call in the order, bc the service is like fast food. Great food, portions, bargain, service and good people that we want to support. That's worth 5 stars. read more

The brisket literally melts in your mouth. I have yet to try most of the other meats, but my husband had the chicken the other night and loved it. I had shied away from the chicken thighs because I imagined tiny bone-in pieces, but these were big, meaty, boneless pieces. It looked delicious! Tried fried okra for the first time - and it was really tasty. It had a nice seasoning, and perfect amount of saltiness. The kids are always happy with the mac & cheese and a bag of chips.
