You can always tell a great BBQ when you don't need sauce to season or moisten the meat. Pulled pork was excellent, the the corn bread had to be the best I have had anywhere. It tasted like they deepfried it quickly to add an extra crunchy outside and the flavor was on fire! Definitely a must if you visit Omaha

After a fun day at the zoo, we decided to finally try Smoking Jay's. On this day, we took advantage of a special that was enough to feed two. Three pork ribs, brisket, two sides, toast, and cornbread. First, like every barbecue place, I like to try the sauce first. Good BBQ doesn't need sauce but a good BBQ restaurant should have it. Strange thinking, I know. They have two sauces here. Spicy and regular. Both seemed overwhelmingly full of, I think, molasses. I didn't care for either but favored the spicy (which is hardly spicy). Strangely, the sauce tasted better when paired with the meat. Imagine that! You get two choices for brisket, fatty or lean. We chose lean and it was not great but better than okay. Well seasoned too. Notice the nice smoke ring in my picture! The ribs? They were 100% perfectly, delicious, and NOT fall off the bone (which should never be for legit BBQ - a good rib has a tug). Bravo for great ribs!! The side dish of BBQ beans was pretty good, better than most, but there was something in there that was not to my liking (best guess, bay leaf... yuck). The coleslaw was alright. There was also a nice small side of spicy pickles and onions too. Overall, we will come back when convenient and get those ribs again! Okra is another side dish that we will try next time. Super friendly people here!

We were seated right away and told about the specials, which was a nice touch. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. Not much seemed to have changed since my last visit, which is both comforting and a little nostalgic. I went with my old standby: grilled tenders, carrots, green beans, and hashbrown casserole. We also got adventurous with the mini pecan sticky buns. Cute presentation in a tiny cast-iron skillet, but unfortunately, the buns were lukewarm and more runny than sticky. When our meals arrived, the first thing I noticed was that portions seemed smaller. The chicken, carrots, and green beans were solid, but the hashbrown casserole lacked flavor. Some of my dining partners found their breakfasts a little on the cool side with gravy starting to congeal. Not bad, not amazing, just a little disappointing. We did not leave hungry, but it did not quite hit the spot. On the bright side, a stroll through the store was as fun as ever, with old-time candy, quirky gifts, and treasures galore. We be back, probably just to shop.

My friend had momma's breakfast with sausage patties, two over easy eggs and three buttermilk pancakes. She could have had a muffin or biscuit but decided the pancakes were enough carbs. We really liked our food, the server was attentive, and the country store provided entertainment. 'Nough said!

We traveled a few blocks for fresh homemade Italian dishes, along with a number of neighbors who had the same idea. Arriving at 5:45-shortly after the 5:30 start time, we were surprised at the line that quickly multiplied with families taking advantage of the great weather and playground equipment that kept the young ones occupied. A wide variety of menu options were available including fresh pasta with a choice of alfredo, marinara or meat sauce. Meatball, brats and Italian sausage subs topped the sandwich offerings. Hamburgers and fries were offered but I didn't see or hear anyone ordering from the grill. A children's menu and family feast were also listed on the hand lettered menus taped to the truck. I ordered the fresh pasta with meat sauce and added a meatball. My husband opted for the Italian sausage sub with potato salad. My entree came with a breadstick and the meat sauce was so packed with meat that I probably could have skipped the added meatballs. My husband raved about his Italian sausage sandwich and I was impressed that they wrapped the bun in foil to keep it from soaking up sauce on the trip home. We had a short 5-7 minute wait for our meals which was delivered in foam takeout containers. Plastic napkin wrapped silverware was available for those eating in the park. The young lady taking orders was well equipped for the crowd and kept the line moving very efficiently. Credit cards were accepted and someone from the kitchen shouted a "thanks for coming" as we exited with our order. Food truck Friday is a welcome addition in our neighborhood and Pomodoro's did not disappoint.

From the nicely sized loaded taters to the spicy hot links, to the tender ribs, to the succulent pulled pork, it's all so good. They even have great curly fries, and I'm not usually a big fan of curly fries because they are so often dry. One of my favorites from here is the open-face sandwich. It's Texas toast, mashed potatoes, brisket, and gravy. I add their pickled jalapenos on top of it, and it is heaven on a plate! Another thing about them that I love is that their ribs aren't swimming in sauce. They use a wonderful rub on them, and they have some really good sauces that you can add yourself if you want, so you can control how messy your ribs are. I find that I never really need the sauce because the ribs are flavorful, moist, and tender on their own. It's smoky goodness through and through. If you do prefer sauces, rest assured, they have some tasty options for you. The portion sizes are not skimpy, and we always feel like we get our money's worth. They have a nice, big menu board that is easy to read, and the prices for everything are clear. They also offer some great free condiments that elevate the menu offerings. Over by the soda machines, they have a small salad bar-style setup that includes sliced raw onions, pepperocinis, pickled jalapenos, dill pickle slices, and the like. It really makes the meal!

The service was excellent and our server was attentive. Went there for their fried chicken which was highly recommended but was not a fan. The chicken is under seasoned and dry. Even with the dipping sauce it needed more flavor. Didn't even take a picture because it wasn't that good looking either. It was underwhelming to say the least. However, the biscuits were DELICIOUS. Crisp and amazing with butter and jam. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as well which were tasty and crunchy, they came with tasty goat cheese and some sauce, while I do wish there was a bit more sauce it was still a great choice. The Mimosa flight was good but it wasn't anything special, I do wish for the cost that there was a bit more going on or even bigger portions. Overall good place to go with a good variety of options.
