The dishes used for the banchan with the lunch special still have a somewhat dated appearance, including some chipped pieces. Considering the relatively high price of the lunch special, I would think updating the presentation and serving ware would be worthwhile. The service, however, remains friendly and efficient. I ordered the bulgogi, and while it wasn't bad tasting, it didn't seem to be prepared properly. The meat texture was a bit mushy and onions had no caramelization, and the dish lacked the rich, savory flavor and texture that makes good bulgogi so enjoyable. It almost tasted as though it had been cooked at too low a temperature. Unfortunately, the banchan were also disappointing. They were very bland overall. The carrot in the potato-and-carrot dish had an odd taste that reminded me of cleaning solution, so I actually spit it out and didn't eat the rest. The kimchi portion was extremely small and, frankly, didn't look particularly appetizing, so I didn't try it. The radish was also very basic and lacked much flavor. The two wontons were unremarkable, although the radish soup was still good, as it usually is. The salad was fine as usual, and the mixed rice was tasty. Ultimately, though, when I'm paying around $23 before tax and tip for a lunch special and receiving such small portions and inconsistent food quality, I don't feel the meal represents a good value. I really wanted to give this place another chance because I enjoyed my earlier visits, but unfortunately, this most recent meal left me disappointed.

We got the Tonkotsu Ramen ($13), which was quite poor; while the proportions were generous the broth was off and the ingredients melded together a bit too much, like a stew kept on for too long. The dinner bento box with teriyaki salmon ($17) was decent though, with great tempura vegetables, excellent fried gyoza, and good, if generic, salmon and spicy tuna maki side. We also got the B.S. II roll (whatever that stands for; $14), a California roll topped with cooked scallops and shrimp and spicy mayo. We've had many variants of this before (my spouse being a cooked sushi fan) and this was fairly mid, as the foodies say these days. A special note should be said for the service; our waitress, while quite busy by the end of the evening, attended to our needs, added on drinks later, and even put on the game at my request. I also ordered the boa buns and the pillowy texture, mixed with the soft pork and crunchy cucumber and carrots made my belly sing. We slurped up our food and cleared out as quickly as we could. I hate being that person that lingers at closing time. What I do regret is that I did not take more time at their counter as we exited because it was full of snacks and curios that I love. I didn't get my food til 7pm, after I flagged down the manager and she personally looked into it. An hour is insane. Now I was also told that they were down one sushi chef and that they had a huge order (approx $800 of sushi) but stilllll. Tip- keep that edamame plate because you're going to want to double dip with that leftover sauce. You choose your own adventure here and the quality of the food and preparation are outstanding. I think Sushi when I think Japanese food-- not here- it's Kushiyaki style ! There's no Sushi! After some time, the owner came to our table and told us that another customer's order had somehow been charged to my credit card. She said she would cancel the transaction and asked us to place the order again. Naturally, I was concerned and asked for an explanation of how another customer's order could be charged to my card. Unfortunately, she repeatedly said she didn't know and offered no explanation or reassurance. Her attitude was dismissive and surprisingly unconcerned about what could have been a serious payment system issue. Because I was uncomfortable with the situation and the lack of transparency, I decided to cancel my order and leave. She simply said "OK" and showed little interest in addressing my concerns. Whether this was a system error or not, customers deserve a clear explanation when their credit card is involved in an unexpected transaction. The poor customer service and lack of concern left a very negative impression. I would be extremely cautious about using a credit card here in the future.
