Came here on a Sunday for lunch and was one of the first few people inside. After noon the place got pretty busy so I recommend coming early. We got the regular wings and the mala wings, with rose dokbokki. I was very excited they had rose dokbooki because I've been seeing it on YouTube but haven't had the chance to try it. It's apparently just the regular sauce with cream in it. It was good but not like oh my gosh different. The wings were good and I especially liked the picked radish on the dish. One of our chicken took a little while to come out so they comped us a side of corn and coleslaw, how nice of the servers. Bb.q chicken in Duluth looked pretty deserted when we stopped by for dinner as the blinds were drawn and parking lot was empty. They share a lot with another restaurant but it was basically empty. Most of their orders were for to-go and there were a ton during our meal on a Thursday evening which really slowed down dine-in food arrival time. Knocking off 2 stars mostly for service. There's two... younggg adults working the front who were busy chatting instead of cleaning off tables and being responsive to patrons. None of the booths in the back were cleared off. There were only two tables at the time and it was difficult to flag them down even though we sat right in front of the counter. The other table asked for to-go containers and waited for their check but the two staff never got back to them. They went up to the counter to pay but one was on the phone with a customer while the other disappeared to the back. They looked frustrated, as were we. We finished our rice cakes and first order of chicken before the second plate even came out due to how many to-go orders there were. Food was still good though - tteokbokki was spicy and chewy $12, and the chicken was fried well. We had golden original and soy garlic. Soy garlic has a glistening coating which was still very crunchy and had good garlic flavor. read more

Bbq chicken is one of my go to Korean fried chicken restaurants due to the consistency and quality from restaurant to restaurant. This location was surprisingly in an empty plaza and was not very busy so we got served immediately. We went with some of the advertised and recommended wings; Secret spicy and soy garlic. The soy garlic is a classic at any Korean fried chicken restaurant and is consistent across most restaurants being a common go to. The secret spicy wasn't very spicy but had a bit of sweetness and more tangyness. Bbq chicken is a good place to go if you're looking for a good consistent Korean fried chicken restaurant with multiple different flavors to try and wonderful service! read more

My husband recently requested Korean fried chicken. We both miss the places we used to go to for "KFC" back home in Hawaii and are still navigating through the many different Korean eateries in Duluth and the surrounding area. However, we had a good experience at another BBQ Olive Chicken (the Doraville location), so we decided to give them another shot in Duluth. Before ever going to either location, I knew the place would be good as Daniel B. rates this place in his top three picks for KFC locally. (Trust me, follow his reviews, if you haven't already. He won't steer you wrong!) In any case, I ordered my hubby's food through GrubHub with no issue. He went inside the establishment to pick up the food and said the interior looked nice and welcoming. The food was ready when they said it would be and we took it home. It held up well on the drive - the soy garlic and original golden boneless fried chicken. I only tried a few pieces of each, but both were tasty, flavorful, and had great crunchy breading (with appropriate amount of glaze on the soy garlic version). My hubby really enjoyed his meal. I think he and I both agreed we like BBQ Olive Chicken slightly better than Yummy Place Chicken in Duluth so far. Although, I've enjoyed trying both and wouldn't refuse either. I'll have to try Choong Man Chicken and Thank U Chicken (amidst many other bookmarked spots) to really figure out my local favorite for KFC, but this chain is pretty solid. I would say the product really is "Best of the Best Quality," per their motto in terms of consistency, portion, flavor, value, and texture. Albeit, it's not the best Korean chicken my hubby and I have ever had in our lives. After all, hometown favorites are hard to replace, but this chicken is pretty darn good. KFC as seen in K-dramas. We definitely had higher expectations due to that. Food: [soy garlic while chicken medium] So, compared to other KFC places, medium is half a chicken, while large is the whole chicken. The flavors were great, but the portions were smaller than other restaurants, and the chicken had less meat on the bone. [rose rice cakes] I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this, but this is one of my favorites rice cakes in town. It's creamy! $2 extra for cheese is an upcharge but they do add so much cheese that it almost makes sense. Experience: I like the small table trash can on the table for the chicken bones. Staff was a bit more cold than usual Korean spots, and the only way to get service is to use the call button, which we were told when we were seated. Overall, I would come back for the rice cakes. Due to it's location, there was plenty of parking and plenty of in-door seating to still be spread out. read more

Continuing with my "Korean Fried Chicken" tour in Duluth, I had to come to try BBQ Chicken. This is the best one in town for crunchyness and the way they fried the chicken. The variety of flavours is good and you can find something for every taste... from the classic Soy Garlic to the spicy Gangnam. The restaurant is very clean and the service is fast, their personnel is very friendly and patience with your order when you ask about the different flavours and quantity of the portion. I think I found another KFC ( Korean Fired Chicken) place to come back... I cannot decide which one is the best in Duluth. They all have their own way to prepare it and make you want them (Choon man and Thank you). read more

Glad I finally got to try the blatantly advertised KFC place from one of my favorite kdramas! I had the half and half chicken (golden olive oil and secret spicy), medium boneless cheesling, medium boneless soy garlic, and a dukbokki. The golden/plain chicken was super juicy and crispy, and had a nice slightly spicy kick to it. The secret spicy was just ok, a little too sweet and not enough spicy, and came with too much sauce which made the fried skin soggy. The flavor on the soy garlic and cheesling boneless were good but some of the pieces were a little dry. My favorite flavor might be the cheesling, which came with a very generous coating of cheese powder that tasted like cheddar/parmesan with possibly MSG (not opposed to that) that made it really good. I like that they have some flavors I don't really see at other locations, and would like to try the gang-jeong style next time. On another note, the menu information on yelp and their website was out of date and I thought I could only order certain flavors with the boneless option. Turns out I think you can order all the flavors for bone-in chicken (some say seasonal though? menu photo attached), in medium and large options - they wouldn't let me switch out the golden olive flavor in the half and half though. If I knew this I would've ordered a medium of everything bone-in. Also there was some miscommunication where I actually wanted the fried dukbokki instead of the normal one - I said "fried rice cake" which was what was on the menu and the lady didn't seem know what I was talking about, so if you want that I'd just be clear that its the fried version. read more

3.5* Trying to live out my Korean Dramas, I saw bb.q and immediately thought "hmm.. I've seen this logo before, wasn't it in a K drama that I just watched?" Yep! That's where you've probably saw bb.q Chicken. So it definitely caught my eye and definitely gave me the decision to come here to check out how it was. We ordered the soy garlic and also the gang jeong. I also got to eat the ddeokbokki. Note that when you do order it comes in two sizes: a Medium and a Large. The large is a whole chicken, and a medium is a half. I thought the ddeokbokki was pretty good, it was spicy so keep that in mind...obviously but it was spicier than we thought and I've had all kinds of ddeokbokki. I thought the chicken itself was pretty wimpy. The pieces were small, but I do want to say that the flavor saved bb.q from 3 stars for me. I thought both of the flavors were strong and that they had an abundance of flavors to choose from. Would I come back? Probably not because I know there are better KFC spots around the area. I would say though it's definitely an interesting spot to go to. The service was meh, I wouldn't say it was stellar and I'm talking about baseline service was meh. I would rather support local businesses rather than going to a chain though, especially when the chicken is so skimpy. read more

I gotta admit, I was a bit disappointed. I was really looking forward to trying the chicken here ever since they opened. We came the other night for dinner. Service was on point! However, the food was just...meh. After we ordered, we were each given a small cup of pickled radish. Nice, cold, crunchy, pickled radish. Very refreshing. We added on some corn salad ($3) which came in a small bowl. Very tasty. Think sweet coleslaw but with corn and bell peppers instead. The kimchi fried rice ($12) came out first. You could add spam or cheese for an additional charge. We chose to go plain. It came out with a fried egg on top. A well-done fried egg. No runny yolk on this bad boy. The rice was a bit oily and needed a pinch more salt. Otherwise, it was good. The fried dumplings ($8) came next. I think there were 8 pieces. The dumpling wrapper was nice and thin and the dumplings were nicely fried. The filling caught me off guard - it was sweet. And the dipping sauce was a bit, underwhelming. Husband asked for soy sauce instead. Chicken wise, we got the honey garlic wings and the Galbi chicken (half). Both chicken options came out hot and crunchy with moist meat. The honey garlic wings were amazing - great garlic flavor with a dash of honey. The Galbi was good but wasn't all that great. However, the Galbi tasted amazing after sitting in the fridge and being heated up in the oven. The honey garlic wings on the other hand, did not taste quite as nice as leftovers. The profound garlic and honey flavors did not carry well at takeout. All in all, this was a good experience but I don't think I'll be coming back. read more
