Not too shabby. BB Bowl seems like a quick and easy fix if you're craving a Korean meal (or even a poke bowl...because that's somehow related to Korean cuisine...?). I admit, their menu is a little disjointed, and a little overpriced, but it was a decent first experience. I ordered the vegetarian tofu soup and it tasted pretty good - it had that home style feel. Came out in a cute little tray with my side of rice and small plates. Overall, there wasn't anything outstanding about the meal. My tofu soup was good, flavorful, hot and slightly spicy, cuz your girl likes that flame. It was enough to fill the both of us and we were really happy. Since then I have brought two more friends here and they all loved it. The food was good I ordered Salmon Poke Bowl. Consisted of rice, tons of vegetables and raw salmon with roe ontop. Why is it 1 star? This was the only thing I ate that day other than toast I had for breakfast and I'm here sitting 3 am in the morning on the toilet dying from severe stomach pain and diarrhea. I rarely rarely ever get sick so getting sick from a restaurant is unacceptable. I like to come to BB Bowl on my lunch break. It's not authentic Korean food, but it is pretty tastey. My fave is either the Kimchee bowl & today I got the salmon poke bowl & it was very good! People are so critical it can be irritating. I feel like I'm more of a realist in my yelp review. If something isn't my taste, but they did a good job I'm not going to write a shitty review. I can be accountable for my palate and not crucify restaurants like a "crazy yelp internet gangster" . Don't get me wrong. I've left earnest low star reviews, but it was because something repeatedly or seriously was off. Ok, so on to BB Bowl. Delicious, clean. They keep the place up. This is like a small business Korean take on chipotle. Don't be so serious people. It's healthy Korean/American fast food. It's fantastic. I just wish all these yelp whiners could read between the lines and rate business within their category and tier. Figure it out, its not that hard. Back to BB Bowl yet again. Was anxiously waiting to try BB bowl for months now, and finally got to try it! It wasn't' what I expected it to be but it was very good! I have to say it's not authentic Korean cusine, but it's sort of a good fast food version of it and priced at a reasonable price. So let's say you work nearby and got only a 30 or 60 mins lunch time and you don't feel like having the usual greasy burgers or Chinese food. Well there you go you got a choice of BB Bowl to go to haha. So let's get down to the food, I ordered the beef bulgogi over rice bowl. So for those of you watching your weight, come here cause it's not greasy and it's a little dry, but anyways I'm not on a diet so I lathered it up with their amazing sweeten hot sauce. The sweeten hot sauce sort of sealed the deal for me haha. As for the atmosphere, very nice decor and furniture and even got some Korean pop music going on oh yea! The service is fast and excellent, the gentlemen there (wish I could of got his name) was very nice and sweet and made sure I was well informed of the Korean food and its differences between the bulgogi beef and the regular beef. So all in all I would go there again when I want to pay for quick grub that's not overpriced! read more

I personally love BB bowl, fully knowing that it's not the best Korean food out there but that's the point. It's a quick, fast-food option. Like a Chipotle for bibimbap. I'm sure you've never heard that before lol. But I honestly dig the concept. Like Sizzling Stone in Milpitas (unless that closed) and all the poké bowl places that have been popping up, you get to choose what kind of meat and toppings go in your bowl, it's bibimbap with extra customization. You can also choose extra toppings at extra cost. The flavors are good and the ingredients taste fresh and healthy. What's not to love? My favorite is the bulgogi bowl with extra egg strips! It's about time we had a choose-your-own option in the East Bay. My only regret is that they do not have a dolsot option for the bibimbap. I like my rice a little crispy and even Sizzling Stone offers that, but this is more of a healthy joint so I understand the exclusion but still, a girl can dream :(. It is also a little pricey, at around $10-13 a bowl. Other snacks like kimbap and the banchan aren't that good, so just stick to the bowls. The store is clean, inviting and the menu straightforward with not too many options to overwhelm you: it's the perfect spot for a quick lunch. The only bad thing is their location. It's located in a slow plaza and can be hard to find and won't catch your eye from the road. I really hope it does well and stays open because we need more customization options like this for a quick lunch or healthy meal, after being inundated by the same stuff over and over. Having a good korean restaurant in Alameda is a great idea but this place falls short of filling that need. 3 stars for its bibimbap and dumplings. What might characterize your experience is that you'll receive a decent sized bibimbap with a good variety on veggies. But it's probably something that you could have done at home. What sticks out is there is no stone pot that is given (or even the option). The rice is not hot or crispy. And... there isn't a fried egg, which is crucial. Food tasted alright, but then again, dousing food with spicy sauce solves most things right? This place has compromised a few too many things to turn korean food into some chipotle style korean food. read more

A Korean place opened up on the island that's actually pretty good. Waow. Pretty busy as today's the grand opening. Spiciness is on point for Korean food. Affordable and enough choices to choose from. Would recommend and will be back ... soon. EDIT: I wanted to edit this review so I can give a bit more detail. This place is not a sit-down Korean BBQ joint. This is fast Korean food, and as someone who's been to bad fast Korean food places, this one is near the top of being good. The one thing is that this focuses on bibimbap, with a sprinkling of some other options. If this was trying to be like Sorabol (variety of main dishes), then it would be lacking, but it does what it sets out to do very well. The gochujang sauce for the bibimbap is spicy. Like really spicy. Like one container made me start going crazy even as a Korean person spicy. That's a good thing. The toppings are also pretty good. I appreciate seeing the egg strips available ... and how flexible the person who did my order was. I would like to see a little more variety in the toppings (would be cool to see other kimchis, etc) but what they have makes it a good bowl. Bulgogi is also pretty good. A bit on the dry side when I tried it, but still good. I'll be trying out the soondubu next and maybe some of the banchan. Mandu is steamed rather than fried, so that may be on the list next too. :) EDIT2: "I have a feeling the nine reviews ahead of me are from friends/workers there since this place was just so terrible." My first time in a korean restaurant thats been setup like a fast food joint where they make your dish in front of you like Chipotle. There aren't many korean places in Alameda and this one is just okay, not great, not horrible and other than the bim bi bap, they have other selections on the menu like tofu soup and other items. The sauce that they have tables for you to add to your dish did taste a bit watered down so no matter how much you add it still tastes the same. I went not expecting too much and if you approach it in that way, you'll more or less walk away satisfied. So, I'm basically in love with this place. My boyfriend and I come here almost all the time. There are times when we come about 3 days a week. Haha. I had to control myself because I feel kind of embarrassed because they see me all the time! XD Anyways, on to the review! We've tried their Bulgogi Bowl, Rainbow Beef Bowl, Kimbap, Mandu, and Tteokbokki! I think the food is very good here and the portion looks small at first but once you start eating you'll see how there is actually a lot! We end up ordering a lot all the time because we don't want to leave without Tteokbokki, one of the rice bowls or the Mandu, so we end up getting them all. Lol. My ultimate favorite is the Tteokbokki! It's vey delicious to me and not too spicy for my taste! It's sweet-ish and is very good with Mozzarella cheese! I have made tteokbokki at home a lot of times and I just can't make mine taste like theirs! I noticed they've added a few dishes to their menu lately and I have yet to try those! And I don't know if they have Kimchi Fried Rice yet or if they will ever add it to the menu but I'm hopeful! Just moved into the area from Los Angeles and was looking for a joint where their poki bowls matched the taste and quality of the ones in Southern California and was delightfully pleased by this small hole in the wall here in Alameda. You can choose to have different kinds of sashimi at a small extra charge which is totally worth it. Ignore those that complain about the price. I have to say, I was extremely disappointed with my meal from here last night. We got 3 items to go, beef bowl, tofu stew and chicken curry. Beef in the beef bowl was dry but the worst thing about these 3 dishes was that the rice was hard. It was not cooked correctly -- too little water thus undercooked. And they gave us 3 tiny containers of banchan to split between the 3 dishes. They used to give 3 per each order. At this point the only reason I go there is because it's close, but not sure if its worth coming back here. read more

Not sure if it was an off day or maybe the guy behind the counter just wasn't Korean or didn't know Korean cuisine (which is bad bc he should have been taught before starting) but when I asked for banchan he had no clue what that was and they didn't really have much except for some not so great kimchee. There really aren't that many choices and the food is dry, not very flavorful and IMO not very fresh. It's nice to have another choice on the island and I give them props for that and I hope they do well but they just aren't my cup of tea for authentic Korean food when I know I can hop over the bridge and really get real Korean food. read more

I was really looking forward to this place opening. I often grocery shop next door so this is a convenient quick lunch location for me. My husband and I was there last Friday for a quick dinner before seeing friends. I ordered steamed rice, dumplings and side plate of assorted cooked vegetabes (bean sprouts, spinach, picked diakon). He ordered the bulgogi bowl with a side of kimchee. All the food is pre-made and sitting in chafing dishes to stay warm. The food was overall bland, even the hot sauce that I asked for later. I was told they make it in house. I would have rather had sriracha. The dumplings must have been sitting there a long time because even though there were in a steamer with a lid on them the tops of them were very crunchy and hard. The bulgogi bowl was bland and dry. My husband said he's glad he spent the 1.00 to get the kimchee on the side just for some flavor but it really didn't help that much. Very disappointed. Their spicy tuna bowl (poke) is so good, my favorite style which is a little bit of rice at the bottom, a bunch of nice fresh greens in the middle, and some nicely sauced spicy tuna on top. They give a spicy dressing sauce on the side that is very good also. The 5-stars is based off of one menu item I've had several items: Tofu Bowl with citrus. basic quick-food interior. Small, a few tables that are decently comfortable against the wall. it's dark inside. the Tofu Bowl is tasty, is mild in seasoning compared to most Korean foods, which i like. So you can still talk to your friends later and their eyelashes won't singe from your garlic breath. The tofu bowl is fresh, not greasy, and a decent portion. you'll eat it all, but you won't feel stuffed. Has a tv that only plays Korean soap operas. Adds to atmosphere, like you walked into a small store in Korea. read more

Nice concept for bi bim bap which is essentially Korean rice bowls. A lot of rice, lots of vegetables and some meat. You can choose which meats and plays on the Chipotle fast casual but does not quite reach the level. It does look plentiful but they give lots of rice and veggies. Meat seems sparce for the price. You essentially pay between $10-$13 depending on meat. I got the poki bowl which is spicy tuna. The poki seemed to be siracha mixed with tuna. If I was near I would eat there again but not regularly, too pricey. What also takes this down from being a hit is kimchi does cost extra which in a real Korean place it would be included amongst other side dishes. But also real bi bim bap would have a fried egg. You pay $1 extra. So the fact that you are paying for the bowl then pay extra for the kimchi and egg makes it too pricy for a fast casual place. read more
