We were pleasantly surprised by the food and homey feel of this restaurant. I loved the personal pictures of family on the wall,the blessed Mother by the entrance, and the food was plentiful and good. We had fried calamari, salads, rib eye steak, and angelhair pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe. All flavorful and good. The table bread was fresh. My coworker and I went to Bazzarelli for an early Thursday dinner. The restaurant was fairly empty, and we were seated right away. The restaurant has a certain feel to it, like it has been around for a while but with that, the food will be good. I had perused their website prior to our visit and didn't see any kind of drink menu, so I was unaware there would be a bar. I did bring a bottle of wine in the likelihood it would be a BYOB establishment. Our server promptly informed me that since there's a bar, they would not pour our wine. No problem, so we ordered a wine and cocktail; my drink was strong, so I had no complaints. The server seemed incredibly annoyed with me for some reason, which made my dining experience odd. I even said to my coworker, "Was it because I brought wine?!" but you have to just laugh things off sometimes. The restaurant was also doing some kind of photoshoot, I'm guessing for their online presence maybe. Godfather music kept blasting sporadically, so it was a little weird. Okay, overall, the whole dining experience was weird! Thankfully, my gluten-free Margherita pie saved the day, which is the ONLY reason it's getting four stars. This is one of the best gf pizzas I've had in a while, the crust was so delicious, a true rarity. I put in a to-go order early on when we put ours in and it still wasn't ready by the time the check came, nor even after I paid. I would get takeout from here, but I don't plan on dining in again unless I feel like suffering. read more

Great place. Haven't been in decades and it's still great I had cavatelli with sausage and broccoli. It was delicious and enough for a second meal for me. The food was very tasty, but the service was disappointing. We ordered a pitcher of sangria that did not taste like traditional sangria. When we mentioned this, the server responded, "If you don't like sangria, you shouldn't order it," and said it was sangria from a large bottle. We expect a local, family-owned restaurant to prepare its sangria in-house. A Fine dining restaurant with authentic Italian cuisine. There Eggplant Parmesan is delicious. The pasta amatriciana and pasta carbonara are my favorites. Flavorful appetizers, Mussels Fra Diavolo, Fried Calamari and others I have tried did not disappoint Excellent service and decent prices. Italian music creating a soothing ambiance. Wish I had a better experience here. Came in about 6:45pm waited 10 minutes to get sat. Water was placed on the table for us and bread. We came in hungry and ready to eat. Ordered 3 entrees. Everyone's entree comes and and mine took almost 15 minutes after everyone else. I got my chicken and eggplant which was not even worth $20. My pasta then came out another 10 minutes after which at that point I had to decline. A woman (probably a manager) came to the table and asked if we still wanted to pasta I politely said I'm almost done with my food so no thank you. It is sad to the low reviews lately. My family has been coming here for 20 years. It has and always will be our favorite restaurant. Angel (the lil guy) has always taken our orders and is also so pleasant. My mom and I came 2 days ago to pay respects for the family. As always the food was incredible. We sat outside which was death up very nice. I got the chicken marsala and it tasted just like it always......AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! I actually have a reservation tomorrow for a friend bday dinner. The food is better than I remembered - and it was really good to begin with! A traditional plain cheese pie as an appetizer was very good. For entrees, my wife's gnocchi with meat sauce was excellent and so was my matrigianna sauce, (marinara with pancetta, onions, garlic and olive oil) topped with a huge portion of freshly grilled chicken, was out of this world. I chose fettuccine as my pasta (you pick your desired sauce and then the pasta). My friend's chicken parmigiana was the best he said he ever had! Our other friend's rigatoni calabrese was awesome. All servings were big but not obnoxiously huge where you're asking for the doggie bag right away. Desserts were great (albeit had to settle for a sambuca cordial - they didn't have my fav, Marie Brizzard anisette): filled fresh cannoli, tortone and ice cream for the kids. Sometimes the service can be a little hit-or-miss but what AJ love is that there's always a family member there to quickly rights any wrongs - great family neighborhood feel as a result. I will stop the payment with my bank and will never ever ever eat there. 2nd update: today I have been there to complain about the overcharging and I have been refunded the $14.90 I was overcharged. I ordered chicken with eggplant with marinara sauce, neither of these were breaded and it was two different kinds of sauce on a plate. One was a marinara sauce and the other kind was an orange color with oil floating on top. It was horrible taste sent it back and got a grilled chicken again, no breading and it was severely burnt couldn't eat it. The server only came once to give us 2 1/2 slices of bread and some water and was very annoyed and sat at a table with two other employees, I asked one of the waitresses what kind of sauces orange stuff was with the oil floating on it, but she did not speak English, and she did not understand so they just said together just talking and not waiting on a customers. It was very expensive and I would not recommend the food. It was horrible,eggplant was not breaded and had an overcooked taste with some kind of orange sauce. I was there Sunday 5/5 my husband ordered the tripe and he said it was severely salty, and he did not enjoy it at all. No one to complain to no managers around and no where waitresses could be bothered coming to our table. We were not offered any dessert just paid and left huge disappointment. Yikes. First and last time we will visit. Portion sizes were good but the Chicken Francaise sauce was not good. Took more than 20 minutes to get more bread after asking several times. Prices not terrible but we, as a family of five, were charged 20 percent gratuity automatically, plus NJ Tax. We did not see any posting about this anywhere, not even on the menus. Waitress disappeared for long periods of time, but we had no control over gratuity. Took leftovers home but thru it all out. Chicken gave us upset stomachs all night. Indifferent service.
