Definitely a hidden gem! This place is like Target. I come in for one thing and leave with a bunch of new food items that I never would've thought to try. The owners are very knowledgeable and if you ask for an item, either they have it or often they have similar items that exceeded the taste of what I originally came in for. In the rare case that I am not willing to budge on the item that I came in for, the owner let me know he will make sure get it ordered and begin stocking it. Yea right. Talk is cheap; at least that's what I thought. I come in the next week and what do you know, he had it in stock. That is what I call service. Only Indian market close enough with variety of spices for day-to-day home-cooking! And staff is helpful when can't find what I need. As an avid cook and non- East Indian, staff has been helpful & patient. I've come out of store with recipe suggestions for what to do with certain vegetables or spices. And store also have small selection of fresh produce; quality was good & prices reasonable. I rather have small /quality over alot and not fresh vegetables. I saw sweet desserts but I have not tried. I bought a durable griddle and spice container which I use alot. Again, good price. read more

After visiting this delightful shop I told my husband that Vallejo had just moved up a whole notch in my heart. Which is good, because lately it's been really low. But Bazaar has all the yummy spicy goodness I need lately in my kitchen. It really picked up my spirits to see the enormous variety of dried legumes and spices, the blocks of paneer in the cooler and the cans of Egyptian ful medames of all things can you imagine omg!! I was thrilled. I went to buy some garam masala and of course they had at least a half dozen to choose from. They cater well to vegan needs and to omnivores like me as well. I am really impressed with this store. The store itself is not really huge, but it has all of the essentials. The store has almost every spice and powder, seeds and nuts required for your cooking. The whole isle is nothing but powders, seeds, and other spices. Some examples include red kasmiri powder, black pepper powder, garam masala powder, corriander powder, jeera seeds, green cardamom, black cardamon, Hing powder, urad daal, biryani powders. Prices vary from $2.50-7.00 depending on size of bag. There is another isle of different oils, ghee, and other cooking supplies. The back is where all of the basmati rice, corn flour, maydar powder, naan mixes. There is also another isle with different spice paste like chilli paste, ginger and garlic paste and such. There is a frozen section which has all kinds of things like frozen microwaveable foods including palak paneer, curries, frozen chapati, frozen naan, frozen ice creams. The refrigerator section has changed curds, milks, paneers and other cheese. They sell house aromas, and other things for the home. Not too many fresh vegatable produce. Did not find curry leafs. Also did not notice any fresh meats. No fishes. Plenty of parking in front. read more

I went to this store for the first time yesterday in search of specific items for Vegan cooking. Am a beginning Vegan cook and in the process of trying many new recipes. I found the items on my list with the help of the staff. The store was clean and organized. I don't care about the past management or the reviews based on that. I am grateful to have the 'current' store where I can shop for specialty foods instead of ordering them from Amazon. I like supporting local stores. I smiled at the cashier upon entering the store and asked for help. She and the Manger directed me to the correct locations. I bought black salt (gives an egg-like favor to Vegan Mayo), a date candy, an quick-cooking organic dal (lentil), pearl millet, organic dried Garbonzon beans, curry powder, fresh daikon (Japanese radish) & hot peppers, and cilantro. Not only a lot of good grocery items to choose from but their take-away is soooo good - the prices of which are totally reasonable. I had the chicken tikka masala - my go-to - and it's the best take-away version I've had. My husband got a plate of 3 vegetarian items and he liked them all. The rice is good, as is the naan. Anything they didn't have at the ready the quickly cooked for us. Super friendly service too. Definitely going back to try more items and to get more of the tikka, naan, etc. I highly recommend this place! I don't understand what sort of people are giving this business one star reviews for inane reasons other than to just be rude. WORST customer service experience over the phone--the person I called gave me his name as "Dhamen" and he said he was the manager. He answered the phone "Hey hold on" in a very rushed voice. When he did get back to me, I asked if I am able to place an order and then pick up and pay and he said "I'll give you the number to text but call back," "10 minutes ok?" "Ok." I call back and I simply ask who am I texting my number to and he yelled "why do you need to know? Just text the number and get your order." Now he doesn't have to be like that...immediately I ask for the manager to make sure this is a legit employee and he says, "I am the manager." "Well good luck getting any business with that kind of customer service." Hung up. My speculation is that "Dhamen" is not the manager, but maybe the son or nephew because I have been to that store several times pre-shelter in place and have never heard his voice from the guys that work there. I've been going to Bazaar for years and I've been so glad there's a place for Indian foods and spices. I was a regular during the previous owners and now with the new. I honestly don't understand the 1 star ratings related to rudeness, I never had an unpleasant experience in the past 10 years or and I'm not Indian/Pakistani. I do wish they had more meats (and what they had tends to be a bit pricey) but this isn't a butchers where you can pick up a whole halal chicken or items like that. New to Vallejo was looking for a good place to get all my Indian/middle eastern spices as I love to cook and use a lot of spices . Also I look for authentic Tahini sauce . As far as the owner he was nice and polite to me. Maybe with a bit more understanding and compassion towards the owner you will find he is a very nice guy . His culture is different, he grew up in different times ....... no need to expect service like your coming to the Ritz or The Four Seasons. It's situated at a tricky intersection. It is worth the drive&like CS Lewis' wardrobe, it's bigger on the inside than it seems from the outside. It's in a sketchy strip mall with a liquor store, a Mountain Mike's (a staple of sketchy strip malls?),a Popeye's, and a donut shop. The store itself is clean&well-stocked, with a great number of Hindu&Sikh religious goods. If you want to make your own kulfi (Indian ice cream), they have kits for it. They have mint chutney, mango lassi, rice and curry powder by the pound. They have rose petal ice cream, a sweet&luxurious treat. The service is friendly&personable, plus they point out deals. Pro-tip: Go on a weekday. It's easier to get onto northbound 29 on a weekday. Pro-tip #2: If you're coming from southbound 29, be mindful of finding Lewis Brown, make a right, then make another quick, sharp right. Be careful about the parking too. Somehow two enormous tour buses got themselves wedged into the lot by Popeye's. Generate good karma by driving mindfully with your car. read more

I have been here several times and had decent experiences. I like to buy nuts, spices, and toothpaste with natural anti bacterial Neem oil. Something our other grocer or drug stores don't seem to carry. My friendly experiences came after I stopped and said good morning to the security guard, wishing him a good day. Entering the store saying good day with a smile, I am asked to let them know if I need any help. I noticed the really low star rated posts are all from people who don't reside in Vallejo. So, in their defense, these ratings came from people unaware of the store location challenges that locals are. Locals treat the the store owners with respect on the way in. I have come away feeling that the man works a lot of hours and may need sleep, but he always appreciates my patronage. If I ask where something is, (no, he doesn't leap up like a teenager at Safeway), but he always points and tells me where to go and does not look away until I find it. My surmise for out of town visitors, they don't recognize the store is located in area known to have homeless encampments, drug dispensaries around the corner, and people panhandling at intersections. If my business were there, I would also prefer to keep my eyes on the front glass doors, looking towards passer bys, rather then focus on the friendly woman or man who is there to buy, (not steal). Watchful security for the paying customers is a good thing. As far as witnesses a customer being screamed at, I don't know what to say, wasn't there. However, my first hunch is that she may be known to the business community for less then stellar past transactions? If not, she could protest by walking out and not spending money as could you. Let all of vote on where we shop, based in our own experiences. Free enterprise will make the final determination if the store management if right for that particular location of our diverse community. Go back to Trader Joe's please, you will find the customer service experience you seek there. Yes, we consumers may not need to speak to others like shop keeps who chronically deal with theft, homeless peddlers running off their customers, or just the generally disenfranchised of the community. Not shaming homelessness or mental illness, just saying when they chronically hang out near intersection, parking lot, or approach customers outside business doors, it is proven to have a negative impact on paying customers using your store, who don't enjoy the hassle of telling people to stop washing their windows, no they don't have a bic lighter, or spare change for the bus. If theft is so bad around the corner that a major Grocery store chain like Raley's is pulling up stakes and leaving Vallejo, we can't blame the owners of small grocer from watching the front door rather then escorting shoppers up and down isles to find product. I always feel very good spending money at small family business'. Proud of families who are trying to make their small business American dream a reality. Competing with the grocery store Walmart and Smart and Final a block away is tough. Too bad the American's already living here, make it so hard for small family run business owners to get ahead by stealing, badgering potential customers, and the more privileged are worse, (not comprehending prejudice or the neighborhood challenges), writing holier then though commentary on Yelp. so our small, overworked, family run businesses can try to pay their lease payment without reading your negative commentary. I need them, to stay open so I can find homeopathic neem oil toothpaste, affordable dried fruits and nuts, and, "new to us." spices so my husband can guess the layers of flavors in the meals I cook. This adventure greatly pleases his Italian disdain for anything bland. read more

I just feel this place deserves 5 stars. I have been going to Bazaar for the last 10 years but the experience I had with the new owner was just exceptional!! I called Daman, couple of days ago as I was out of indian groceries, with the virus going on and the shortage we are all experiencing. He said he was getting the shipment in and he would let me know as soon as he had the groceries I needed. I sent him a list, he had everything ready with 24 hours and also asked me if I needed the essentials like milk, butter etc and of course I would not say no. I would highly recommend Bazaar for all your Indian groceries. They are just fantastic. Forget about the bad reviews. Lets look at NOW and TODAY.... Well done Daman and the entire Bazaar team. Thanks for being there for our community and others in this hard times. One last thing, I live in Hercules but I cross the bridge to go to Bazaar just because I feel very special!! Broke out the Indian cookbook for the first time yesterday. Made a dish that called for fenugreek and some other spices. Went to Raley's and they didn't have the spices so, I found Bazaar online. Even though I've passed by Bazaar 100's of times but, never considered going in until now. Glad I did. Great store that carried all the spices I needed. Chili powder, fenugreek coriander seeds, garam masala, paneer, ground cardamom. The owner was very friendly and helpful. For all the spices, paneer and bag of naan came to $27. These spices will last for quite some time but, I'll be back to the store for the ethnic trip without having to leave Vallejo. read more
