Buying spices from here for a while now. It's the easiest place for me to pick up since I can just park on the street and easily walk in. Amar has a such an amazing variety of spices and dried goods that I'm sure I could find all I need after a long commute home. They also have fresh vegetables and a ton of frozen items. Their selection of frozen samosas is immense that I've found myself trying almost all of them. The shop can be a bit overwhelming because it's super full and there are many isles you can't walk through but I didn't have a problem with it. Although there is a language barrier, the cashier was very friendly. I've never been over charged on any of my items thus far and appreciate when I need to reach for something too far back on the top shelf, the cashier is always willing to help (coconut milk is always at the back top shelf). read more

My go-to shop for south-asian spices, vegetables and other ingredients that are tough to find at the average grocery store. Love to stop in here for little snacks and candies as well. I come here for the papadums! I used to get ripped off by Indian restaurants serving 4-5 pieces of papadums for $2-3. I always thought there was a crazy complicated process to make papadum--which could justify the cost but it's SOO easy. The profits these Indian restaurants make from serving papadums is insane. So I walk into the grocery store and I ask where can I find lentil flour. The store owner asks "what do you need it for?" I said I want to make papadum. He's like why do you want to make it we sell papadum. And I was amazed. So I take it home and find out all I need to do to cook it is pop it in the microwave for 45-60 seconds and I'm done! This place is unorganized & a bit on the dirty side. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because there is a huge selection of Indian groceries but so difficult to find! There are items that do not have prices on them & my cousin got charged a higher price for the same item that the person in front of her paid for. The item was the exact same brand & size. I thought this was a one time mistake but I talked to others that said the same thing happened to them. Amar Grocery has the best selection of Pakistani/Punjabi/Indian groceries. I found the masala flavored Lay's chips that I used to eat in Pakistan and it really hit the spot! Fruits, vegetables, Desi snacks, biscuits/cookies, drinks, spices, clothing, etc. This store really has it all, including a very friendly and helpful staff! The owners of Amar Grocery are also starting a restaurant next door that will open in a few months. They really hyped it up and mentioned that they will be providing fresh sugar cane juice, FOUR different flavors of lassi, and chefs flown in from India. Small store but awesome selection. I went in to get some spices only but ended up getting some fresh veggies, tons of spices, masala dabba (spice tin), a pot, and a few other items. They have a nice selection of kitchen items like serving utensils, stainless steel cups, plates, etc. Looked like they also had some clothing for sale as well. I moved from the Bay Area and didn't have high expectations, but this store actually had a lot more than some of the Indian stores I've gone to in the Bay Area. I really don't have a good reason for not giving this place 5 stars other than this was my first visit and I am hesitant being overly-enthusiastic. But hey, I'm here reviewing it on Yelp not four hours after my visit, so let's just say it's a 4.5 rating. My family and I went to Amar to procure some hard-to-find ingredients for my never-ending experimentation with Indian food. Not only did they have everything we were looking for but the proprietor was extraordinarily friendly & took the time to help us find the really unusual items like nigella seeds and mango powder. This is also the place to go for curry leaves, mass-quantities of lentils, and just about anything else you could think of needing for a home-made Indian feast. A minor note for non-Indians shopping there: if you have a specific list of items you need, make sure you have either the Indian name for the ingredient or have a smart phone with Google at the ready. Nigella seeds are called kalonji, green mango powder is called amchoor, and I would have been up a creek if I hadn't been able to look it up in a hurry. read more

A lot of the food had no price labels, they didn't have the large variety that other stores have although This store is much smaller and the lack organization in the store made it chaotic to shop in on a busy day. It's the only Indian grocery store in Fairfield Vacaville area so this is the only option. I found rose pedals for the cardamom cream cake I made from a 12/30/2015 recipe from the New York Times at this awesome store on Fairfield's main street. It has hundreds of spices, dried legumes, sweets--from candies to cookies, fresh vegetables, hair oil, at least five types of rose water to an entire section of clothing, jewels and fabric. They can even make a special, ornately decorated silk dress in ten days for you. The people are kind, helpful and friendly. Amar Grocery has a wide array of Diwali Sweets, all laid out in their nearby restaurant, just 100 feet away!!! I have not eaten such good quality mithai (sweets) in Fairfield ever before! Freshly made here and such a wide variety for Diwali. Highly recommend it. Today was my third visit in three days to just stock up mithai. I bought 3 Mangoes from that store for $4.50 and when i got home and start peeling them. Two of the mangoes i bought we're black inside. I went back to the store right away with those two mangoes to show them so i can exchange them. The old Indian guy from the counter told me that they don't do returns and/or exchange on fruits! I have been coming to this store since I was a kid. They were the sole Indian grocery store in this area for years. They have a huge variety even compared to some stores in the Bay Area like Berkeley. And a really varied sweets section. The staff is always friendly and offers help. They have clothing too so you can almost get everything you need in one place. Yes it's a little crowded but they definitely make use of the space they have. Can't fault them for that! read more

This was an amazing find for me. We moved from Fremont and were very much worried that we need to go to Dublin for Indian groceries. But this store saved me the pain. This has everything an Indian grocery store has and the prices exactly the same. The produce section in the store is comparatively smaller than the one I used to visit in Fremont.
