Super pillowy steamed bun with ube halaya/jam in the center! Great cozy snack. I also tried the chicken asado one; eh, it was alright as the chicken filling was a little too gloopy for my liking. Anyway, yes this mart is ***fantastic*** if you're looking for hard-to-find Asian food goodies. This mart advertises the ability of customers to request specific items to be sold here, and the owners evidently are receptive to such requests (I mean, there's a freezer corner just dedicated to fruit-shaped ice cream lol). Also, I appreciate that interior-wise it's just an old-school bodega-style mart lol nothing overly trendy like j-pop/k-pop blaring in the store. Good shopping experience for me. :p No fuss with lot parking at all when I visited on an early afternoon Sunday.

The store itself is really cool, but the customer service is seriously lacking. I've visited 4…read moretimes now, and every single experience has involved poor customer service -- even after spending over $500 in the store. Most recently, we had a 10% off coupon that stated in large writing it expired in 7 days, only to be told there was a different expiration date hidden in much smaller print. We were only a few hours past the cutoff, and instead of offering any understanding or trying to help, the staff argued about it. Most companies with decent customer service would honor something like that. As someone with 15+ years in customer service, it's disappointing to see an establishment with so much potential fall so short in this area. The staff comes across as cold, monotone, and uninterested in helping customers. To make matters worse, there seems to be little to no manager or lead support available to assist with bigger issues. Unfortunately, the customer service here has been a zero every time I've visited.

Ended up leaving with that and some fresh oysters that I shucked myself at home and a hankering to go back for another visit just to check on the food court. Place had a customer base just as varied as the national origins of its shelved stock and cashiers were surprisingly friendly. I know prices are high, but wow! You can buy portions in sizes and prices that allow you to get a "taste". A stark contrast from Costco in this regard for sure. Almost makes the notion of "saving money" while food shopping a little passè, even in this economy! Love that it's in a non descript location fit for the grocery world's witness protection program: Rancho Cordova! Must try!

I was charged for chicharron con carne, which is $14.99/lb. Carnitas is $12.99/lb. For the carnitas, my total should've been $14.42, not $16.64. I was charged $2.22 extra. That isn't much of a difference but it's the principle. The cashier should've known given that she was the one who got my order and rang me up. It wasn't busy at all, so there was no rush and no excuses. Never going there again. Update: just got home and went through the carnitas. This is the first time it has ever been THIS DRY. It's so dry I can't even rip it easily. Most of the 1.11 lbs of carnitas is like this. Today was definitely their off day because why is it so dry?

I ended up grabbing beef salad, pad Thai, and a mixed jelly dessert, along with chips that looked like bugles to try.
