I've been on a Indian-ish cooking streak this past week. Borrowed a few cookbooks from the library…read moreand have been riffing on the cuisine. Well my comprehensive spice cabinet is mostly European centric. In order to make Indian recipes I need asafetida, cumin seeds, amchur powder, curry leaves, chaat masala, etc... You get the picture. Fellow Yelpers brought me here. I'm impressed with the inventory of box, bottle, package and frozen offerings. I had a written grocery list of 15 items. Every item I wanted was in stock. Prices are not rock bottom. The 16 oz jar of organic ghee (clarified butter) is priced at $19.99! I didn't see that until I got home. But in toto, I'll use this Indian market in the future for my culinary needs. Owner is a nice guy. He helped me find all the items as I blundered around the crowded and somewhat confusing shelves.

They have the best Pita bread. I have had good service from the people working there except for one older man who I think is the owner. Every time he is working there he is very grumpy looking and he glares at me like he doesn't want me there or something. I usually just ignore it, but the last time I went there he was extremely RUDE and disrespectful. I left without buying my items and I will never go back. I noticed there was another customer commenting here who noticed the same thing about this man when he shopped there. He should not be working in customer service.

This family owned market is sooooo cute, and everyone is so friendly and energetic, I love how welcoming they are. You can find Vietnamese and Filipino ingredients and staples here, as well as ingredients for Korean and Japanese and Chinese cuisines. Oh and Indian curries powders. This place has an impressive seafood/meat butcher counter. Like a whole catfish. Lots of shrimp. They have the vietnamese cold cuts, asian sausages, and all the Asian sauces you can dream of. There's also a large selection of asian produce - japanese eggplants, the best sized ginger, huge carrots, lots of mushrooms, jackfruit, thai chilis, taro, omg banana leaves, tamarind, etc. Oh gosh, and mangosteens and longans. I get all my bean thread noodles and melona here. They also have boba popsicles and ube ice cream. Sometimes they run out of popular seasonal items, particularly if its a big Asian holiday like Lunar New Year, but ask them when the next shipment comes in! They restock.

Every Friday, the market hosts an exceptional outdoor produce market that is a feast for the senses. It might might bring memories of Thailand rushing back, it did for me and my Thai mother-in-law, who excitedly told me the name of her favorite veggies, and what dishes to use them in. There are veggies used in traditional U.S. dishes available as well, but we rarely see freshness like this at other markets. On Fridays there is so much business that Aroon Thai has set up an outdoor cashier, so service is as speedy as possible. Hot Tip: If you're planning on checking out the Friday Outdoor Produce Market, go early to ensure you get the best selection of fresh-made Thai goodies, rolls, and sandwiches.

Only con is prices aren't labeled for 90% of items but prices remain reasonable. Went in on a Friday after work, and they had Vietnamese prepared foods: -Banh cuon $5.99 - steamed rice rolls with pork and black fungus were fresh and soft. Thoughtfully packaged with veggies, pickles, jalapeños, and fried shallots all separated out. -Sweet sticky rice $4.99 - decent (a little dry) -Banh mi $7.99 - Vietnamese sandwiches supplied by Kelly's Sandwiches and Drinks The most surprising was their fresh produce piled high in baskets: -Okra -Chinese eggplant -Mint and Vietnamese mint -Perilla leaf -Mung bean sprouts -Bitter melon -Taro -Lotus root -Yucca -Ong choy/water spinach -Daikon Dry products range from: -Starches: instant ramens, vermicelli, rice, sticky rice, mung beans -Sauces: Thai curry, Indian curry, mapo tofu, chutney -Snacks: jellies, dried squid, broad bean, hello panda, pocky -Cans: lychee, coconut milk, coconut jelly, jackfruit, halo halo, red bean A coworker recommended Aroon Thai after hearing I've desperately hunted for Asian groceries at Asiana, Phnom Penh, and Kabayan. Sadly, none of the local markets offer everything in one place. Aroon Thai fills their aisles to the brim with fresh, frozen, and dried foods. From instant chai to vermicelli, it's a great one stop shop for your fridge and pantry. Happy cooking!
