I'd been craving foule medames for a long, long time. It was mentioned to me that Bayti was the place to go for foule. I was surprised at how little web-presence Bayti has, so I hope this steers more people to this place.
Bayti means "our house," and indeed it has a very welcoming, homey feel. When I went, around 10 am, it was pretty empty, but the people there were being treated like family. Me, well, I stood out for sure, but for the pursuit of foule, I don't mind. The proprietor was very kind and gracious, and service was quick and friendly. I didn't see the menu, because I just sat down and ordered foule, so I don't know what else they have.
When you sit down, they put a bowl of green olives in front of you, and a basket of fluffy pita. And then comes a plate with fresh mint leaves, pickles, pickled turnips, raw onions, tomatoes, radishes, and lemons. And then comes the foule, oh my god. It was soooooo good, with perfect tasting olive oil and garlic, mmmmm The way I eat it is: rip off part of a pita, open up a pocket, stuff the pocket with mint leaves, onions, etc, and then fill the sucker with lots and lots of foule. It is just indescribably tasty. Eating this way, with a few olives in between bites of foule, you will go through about 3 or 4 pitas. So this is not a light meal, but if you're approaching an overnight fast or something, then get some foule. The term "hidden gem" gets overused, for sure, but Bayti is just that.
For all of the food, it is only $6. Water comes by the bottle - $1. They accept credit cards, I believe. read more
