Missak was the technician helped me today. I had a minor issue with my air filter box clamp and was able to come back after it was fixed to complete the smog check w/o incurring extra charge. They failed me for the most ridiculous reasons and it was clear that the staff was not knowledgeable in their field. I needed a DMV renewal smog inspection for my Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 diesel Class C RV. Submitted a quote request on Yelp and received five estimates ranging from $58.20 to $108.20. It seems that some shops think they can get away with exorbitant special prices for RV owners. Not at Bayside Smog! They were the $58.20 price and did a great job for me this afternoon. No extra charge for diesels or small RVs. Naqib is very friendly, speaks fluent English and was courteous and respectful. I can highly recommend this shop for any smog inspection. SUMMARY Oh thank heavens Bayside Smog passed my old goat the first time! My 20 year old Toyota SUV lives on (at least for another 2 years)! YELP CHECK IN DISCOUNT Check in and you get some dollars off :) Prices are in line w/ other places in the area. BACKGROUND Well I got a love affair for my 20 year old Japanese made Toyota SUV. They just don't make them like they used to and most of all, they don't make them easy to work on anymore. Special tools, special diagnostic equipment, etc. Sure, I *could* buy a new car or truck, but there's nothing wrong with my baby :) However in the last 4 years and 2 tests, each time it didn't pass the first time but barely passed by a hair. The last time I had to change out my injectors and catalytic converted. Perhaps that helped, but needless to say I was still worried. THE EXPERIENCE I made a reservation at Bayside Smog based on the Yelp reviews and the proximity to our place and some errands I had to run afterwards. The owner was super cool and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone else. What I really appreciated about him is that two slimy dudes with no appointment tried to cut in front of me, but the owner shooed them away and honored my appointment first. His price quote for a star certified smog check was the best that I found after calling and emailing multiple smog centers in the area. I was 10 minutes late for my appointment but he still squeezed me in and the smog check was done within 10 minutes. He wore a mask and was extremely friendly. Brought our commuter car and truck in to get smogged. The commuter car didn't pass but only because I just had work done and it needed to be driven for about 100 miles to reset all the tests so I brought it back a week later and it passed. The guy (I can't remember his name but it starts with an N) is SO nice. I checked in here on Yelp and received a discount for both my vehicles. I scheduled for 9:15am for a smog check for on the 2007 Toyota Camry. I arrived 10min after the scheduled time and Naqid informed me that if the 9:30am appointment doesn't show, he would put me in; otherwise, he would have to do mine then after. Luckily for me, the next appointment didn't show up so he took my vehicle in and got it done within 10 minutes. Paid the $58 quoted and out in 20 minutes. Called him on the phone and asked how much. He said $50. Once the smog was over he said $100. I said we just spoke on the phone and you said $50. He then proceeded to say i'll do it for $70. At that point I needed to get out of there. Payed the $70. Bad business. Avoid at all costs. There are other smog options in the area you can go to. read more
