The battery is a nice walkway around the Charleston harbor area. The entire walking path is about 2.5 miles of sidewalk. It takes you from a coast guard sector and ends close to rainbow row. It also wraps around white point garden. There are so many sights, it's very pleasant, and the whole thing is along the water. My husband went multiple times on our trip to get our morning jogs in. I highly recommend it as a sunset walk as well. read more

This is a known park in Charleston, as there is a lot of history in the place. It's also a local park for the locals who live in the area. I will make a note that there are lots of birds and they are not afraid of dropping ppoop from above. My cousin was a representative of that, as well as someone else we saw in the park. There are lots of statues with history in them as well. On a hot day, the sea breeze feels great, and in the winter, it can make it much cooler. There are lots of homes that look out to the park and give it a vibe that is out of a movie. There are sidewalks and ramps in the area, but sometimes there are a situation of off-road driving is needed. As not all of this is ADA-compliant. We got to see some cannons as well as the place where they were fired from. You can see lots of dogs and its leash free park, so you might have a four legged from come say hi. There are still rules about how they have to be friendly, and that you still have to have control over your pet. There was a gazebo in the middle that was a great place to take a break without fear of bird poop falling from the sky. Overall, it was a great park to visit while getting some history. read more

We have started our day from here. First, we saw some construction going on and we were like 'Again?" but it was in front of the white point garden. It was a lovely morning at 830 AM, with no one there, enjoying an unobstructed view of a beautifully Georgian-style home. As of March 2024 the sea wall on Murray Blvd in front of the park is closed off due to construction so you won't get view from the tip of the peninsula. However the promenade on battery street is open so you'll see all the historic homes with grand views of the bay, the islands, and off to the distance the Atlantic ocean. Tons of history here. Went here with my family and it is a beautiful park that is right on the water! It is a no leash zone so there were a couple dogs who roamed free. There are lots of statues and monuments throughout the park to walk around and see. The trees are probably the best part because they are so beautiful! Such a pretty place to go for a walk. It is a bit sad to think about the significance of this area though. There are still cannons pointed at Fort Sumter. The Battery is located along the water on one side and extremely large old money houses on the other side. There is also a nice gazebo in the center of the park where I believe many weddings and engagements occur at. If only we were able to talk to the trees in the park, I'm sure they've witness a fair share of America's history, both the good and the bad. read more

I feel a sadness in my heart every time that I visit the Battery in Charleston S.C. . In no possible way do I want to appear to be a modern day traitor to My beloved home state that has given me much more than I deserve! But what a misguided, terrible decision it was to have the cadets at the Citadel fire cannon shot at Fort Sumter in April, 1861. Approximately 650,000 great Americans were slaughtered on both the North and South combined. How sad! The cannons today at the Battery are still aimed at Fort Sumter ( in memoriam ) as a reminder of one of the most tragic decisions that has ever been made in the history of the United States of America! read more

The Battery is famous landmark of the civil war. Ive been to Charleston many times and some how missed this beautiful park. This is a must do on your visit to Holy City! The trees and antebellum houses were absolutely gorgeous. They keep the park clean and safe, I did see police hanging walking around. Great spot to explore and take a break from the hustle of the city. Great views of the Copper River, I saw dolphins and lots of boats passing by. If you need some down time or exercise this is the spot, I didn't see any public restrooms. Plenty seating, Enjoy! read more

We walked through here on a nice weathered day and thoroughly enjoyed the area. We parked at the southern end of rainbow row and walked along the seaboard, past white point garden. The kids enjoyed the park with its abundant shade, due to large trees, and its openness as far as the field is concerned. There was a protest going on with both sides of the "removal of old monuments" battle present and it was civil and peaceful. Once we completed the southern seawall walk, we turned into the neighborhoods and just wandered. There was history and great architecture on every street so you can't go wrong. read more

Great views of the Cooper River and Ashley River and the boats passing by- sail boats were out on all three days I came out here! I also passed by the Battery on the water when going out to Morris Island! That was on Saturday and high boat traffic for sure on such a gorgeous day! As a lifelong Charleston resident, this place is always recommended by me for out-of-town guests. It's the quintessential spot for photos and Charleston history, as its always featured in photos of Charleston and anything you see regarding tourism. You'll see an array of people, locals and tourists. Sometimes you will see a wedding or even a proposal (shoutout to my brother who asked his wife to marry him there over 15 years ago!) I suggest walking around the Battery alone, with a friend, family members, and even pets. Right nearby are neighborhood streets with large Charleston homes, churches, and even some shops. There's even a dog park right nearby for those of you with spoiled pooches like me. :) read more

The Battery is not far from Rainbow Row, it's maybe half a mile south. As you stroll down this way, you will catch some lovely waterfront views. I really enjoyed taking some photos as we walked on the elevated path near the water. If you are looking to see some grand southern homes, this is a great place to get your fill of architectural beauty. We ended up at a park with a variety of monuments and cannons, after that we walked back. This area isn't too far from the Calhoun mansion, which is another popular tourist destination in this city. It won't take you too long to see this area, I'd say it is worth doing if the weather isn't super hot and sticky. read more

Whether sunny, cloudy or rainy a visit here is always worth the time. Scenic beauty of Charleston harbor is what draws most people here, and you can never leave with out a selfie or just pics of the water and area. As a local we are always drawn here to do the same, get out and walk it. The walk is easy, and if the water is not enough to see just look across the street at the beautiful homes. Plus the monuments and park are right at the end. A true tourist spot, the Battery is also a local destination. There are several historic monuments to see and learn about American history, plus cool old cannons that once defended the Charleston coast and port. Lots of free parking along the sea wall, but can fill up later in the day. There are a few restaurants and shops within walking distance, along with a scenic pier and access to harbor ferry. read more

D views are always amazing, and you can really C some impressive boats going by, as well as the many different colors of Rainbow Row shimmering in the AAfternoon. What a wonderful walk as you gaze upon the sea and the majestic homes along the battery. Mornings and evenings are the best to avoid to the sweltering mid day heat and offer the best views. You may even spot very large sea birds in their rooks across the street in May if you look up into the live oak trees. Charleston has 98 square miles of historic landmarks and areas making it the largest in the United States definitely a walking city. Wear comfortable shoes and be respectful to the homes and property along the battery. These are private residents and drive ways. I always love going to the Battery. Even if it's a quick bike ride down with some friends on a gorgeous day, it's a great way to spend some time outside . There are statues to look at and benches to sit on. People usually come here to jog or fish. The water looks great and you can walk right next to it. When I first got I visited the Battery. The views from the battery walls are breathtakingly amazing! It's a great place to take a walk for exercise or just to enjoy the scenery and relax. The surrounding homes on the Battery are full of history and beautifully designed. I don't know how they have survived over the many years of hurricanes and flooding; but they are strong and are still here for us and hopefully future generations to enjoy. While the Battery walls are great to walk along and look at the ocean there is also a very nice little park with statues and historical markers, nice shade provided by the big trees to cool off during a hot summers day, and they even allow dogs in the park. Parking is limited, but it is just a short walk from downtown, through Rainbow Row. If you do find a spot to park at the Battery be weary of the drainage; I popped a tire on one of the drains once. read more

Scenic walk, beautiful homes, and lovey park are what make up the Charleston, SC battery. This was the last stop of our road trip before heading back to FL. We spent about two hours waking through the neighborhood, relaxing at the park, and touring a few of the house gardens. We sipped coffee and spent time together. It was a very enjoyable morning and highly recommend anyone who is in Charleston to check the battery. Parking was readily available but we were visiting on a Thursday morning, so it might be busier on the weekend. Parking was all street parking so make sure you're decent at parallel parking ;) read more

You can't beat a morning or evening run or walk on The Battery. It's one of the most beautiful places in Charleston, right on the water and with lots of fun houses (including a glass house). Sometimes you can see dolphins, and the sunsets are amazing. The traffic isn't so bad, but there are sidewalks and a raised area for you to walk or run on.
