What a fantastic place to relax and watch the ocean! This tiny park is on the Sullivan's Island side of the ocean and ICW connecting IOP and SI. Two park benches are just above the beach and surf where you can relax, watch the beach combers, and view the active (read: dangerous) ocean currents and watch the huge cargo ships in the distance pass by going into and out of Charleston Harbor. There are signs posted stating NO WADING, and for good reason. These currents are swift and unpredictable. We watched them for almost an hour and they are nothing to fool around with. They remind me of the surf in California along the rocky shores, where the waves crash up. NOT an area for going in the water, but superb for watching and photographing. There are lovely homes on the Sullivan's Island side also within view, as well as, the waterfront homes on the Isle of Palms side of the inlet. Parking is limited, but across the access road from Jasper Blvd. is parking for a church, where we saw others park and walk across to the inlet. There is a historical marker detailing the history of this inlet going back to the occupation of the area by the Sewee Indians, before IOP and SI were inhabited and commercialized. A great place to stop and walk the dog, or just enjoy a peaceful and relaxing time with your partner or family! read more
