It was a VERY hot day in late June when we were at Shem Creek Park but the views all but made up for any discomfort we felt with the heat. The park consists of several boardwalks that allow you to walk over the creek and the marshlands that surround it, it's also adjacent to a more commercial boardwalk full of retail and restaurants as well as a marina where you can watch shrimp boats come in and feed the dolphins and pelicans their cast offs. I could have spent hours there just doing that! I love bird watching and the walkways out into the park are perfect for that. At the end of a few of them they also have covered pergolas/gazebo like structures with a bit of seating and shade if you want to park for a while and watch. This is also ground zero for a lot of fishing, so it may be a bit more crowded an other parts of the park but on a bright, sunny day it's the place you'll want to be.

I love going to Shem Creek Park just to walk around and get some fresh air and See a beautiful sunrise or sunset. If you park in the lot that is meant for the dock then it's free if not, you have to pay at the meters but it is gorgeous. The March is beautiful all the boats going by and then you can always end your walk with grabbing a drink on shem Creek or grabbing nachos at Saltwater. It's really beautiful and it's a great little walking area. we also like sitting on the dock and watching the fisherman. There's so much to see and learn. It's always clean and feels safe. They have different bench's set up or you sit on the dock. They have public restrooms near the parking lot, that are pretty clean.

This is a nice little boardwalk park on the water. You'll see lots of birds and maybe a couple sea critters. I liked checking out the shrimping boats. There's some great info about Charleston and its nature as you walk along the path. At the end, there's a pier where you can see the bridge in the distance, and there will probably be a lot of people down there fishing. There's a free parking lot and a clean bathroom at the entrance of the park.

Shem Creek Park is a nice slice of Low Country where the Shem Creek enters Charleston Harbor.  Take one of the boardwalks from the parking lot toward the Harbor, and walk above the marsh.  Enjoy the views and informational signs along the way.  The gazebo at the Harbor provides a nice place to sit while taking in the Harbor views from Fort Sumpter to Downtown Charleston. Walk back along the Creek, pass shrimpers at their docks, and checkout restaurants at the water's edge. There are public restrooms at the parking lot.

I love this place. I always forget how much I love it until I come back. Great little walk and so relaxing.

Overall: A perfect park for an afternoon stroll or sunset. The good: A series of boardwalks off of Shem Creek - We bring our family and friends here all the time since it's easy to get to and accessible for all ages. Walking along the cordgrass and water is such a relaxing vibe, and it's a great spot for sunsets. It's fun to see the different shrimp/fishing boats (not to mention the pelicans and smells that come with them). We'll often see dolphins here, which is always a nice plus. Plus, you're right by the waterside bars and restaurants. The not-so-good: I wish there was more of it! Also, having more non-bar amenities would be nice, like little stands or shops on the "business" stretch of the boardwalk. But that'll never happen, given the amount of space that's available.

Discovered this picturesque park by accident as we were heading to eat at a restaurant nearby. It consists of a series of board walks through marsh areas to the open bay. There was plenty of fishing going on and also families out for a walk. If you're in the Mount Pleasant area it's definitely worth a stop.

Peaceful walk on the boardwalk with a covered gazebo at the end. Nice view of the marsh and water. Restaurants are In walking distance and restrooms are available with some rocking chairs available too.

Not what I was expecting. It is a Neat area in the midst of a busy area. Lots of pelicans and other birds. People kayaking and fishing. Boardwalk short but nice views of the water. Public restrooms available.

My favorite part of South Carolina is the spartina grass, but it can be tough for a casual visitor to access the wetlands. This boardwalk through a creek lined by what I assume are very expensive houses offers a pragmatic entry point where one can watch the sunset, and when the tide is low walking out into the grass is easy. The area has numerous businesses and docks as well, but the real attraction is the natural environment.

This is a really pretty boardwalk path that's also handicap friendly and I love seeing so many locals using it to fish.

Shem Creek Park is a great place to go in Mount Pleasant to see the beautiful creek, the shrimp boats, and the marsh. Parking is available right up front but it can fill up fast. The boardwalk is long and scenic, so take your time and look around. Along the way are info boards giving both historical or nature info for all. After the first stretch of boardwalk, you find a small marsh landing with trees and shrubs. Then you can go either to the creek side or the boardwalk goes further out. At the end is a nice large covered area to see the creek entrance or see the bridge. Cameras are a must to get great shots of the marsh, the pelicans, and waterway. This park is accessible for all, and perfect for awesome views of the beautiful creek. Whether a visitor or local, Shem Creek Park is another reason we love the low country.

There is something incredibly restful about Shem Creek Park on a quiet fall day in November. Compared to the hustle and bustle of Charleston especially but also in contrast to the raucous dining scene near the bridge at Tavern & Table, Vickery's, and Red's Ice Box. Here, the creek and wetlands bathe you in waves of calm. Snowy egrets wander the raised wooden walkways that afford you with panoramic views of the Charleston harbor with interesting islands and ruined forts in the distance. Roofed sections with benches and tables permit picnics, fishing, shrimping, crabbing, and general resting and soaking in the trademark Mount Pleasant calm. If you've had your fill of historic downtown Charleston, with its horse drawn carriage rides, sweet grass basket sellers, seventeenth century architecture, and endless crowds, consider a stop here at the park for a brief refresher before your next stop, for peel and eat shrimp and local beer perhaps just across the bridge. Everything will taste so much better that way! Stress, as is well known, makes it hard to enjoy life's simple pleasures. And places like Mount Pleasant are ALL about that. Check out this small but superb public space on your next Holy City visit!

We decided that we would try brunch at one of the places there next time and use the boardwalk to burn a few calories!

It is a favorite among Charleston locals and tourists alike. This park is ideal for a sunset picnic or a relaxing stroll, and it only adds to the romantic charm of Charleston. It won the 2007 Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects, confirming its status as a Charleston treasure. You can stroll through the gardens, walk the esplanade, or spend some time at one of the many fountains. Spanning over 8 acres and located less than a mile north of The Battery, Waterfront Park has become a beloved Charleston fixture. It is home to one of the city's most photographed sites: the pineapple fountain. In Charleston's scorching summer months (and we faced that too), visitors (especially children) can be found cooling off in the shallow water of the fountain. Wide walking paths, dozens of benches, well-manicured green spaces, picturesque Palmetto trees, and a famous Pineapple Fountain adorn the park.
