If you are looking for a beautiful park to visit, check out West Ashley Park. So beautiful! There are softball fields, a kids play grounds, plenty of hiking trails and a beautiful large lake and dock. We spent a few hours hiking the trails. They are well maintained and the views are breath taking. The lake is large and beautiful and looks to house several species of fish. There is a board walk and two floating docks on each side for shore fishing. We plan to come back with our kayaks for a day of fishing. There are picnic tables and a few BBQ grills. Perhaps a picnic lunch and then kayaking. The park is dog friendly with a leash. Lots of people walking and enjoying the quiet scenery and fall weather. You won't want to pass up West Ashley Park. read more

Visited West Ashley Park today. The park has baseball fields, soccer fields, hiking trails, a playground, and a large lake. There are also some picnic areas with grills. The lake has a small boardwalk with 2 docks for launching small boats. If you like fishing, the lake has several types of fish...bass, catfish, and bream. If you enjoy trail walking and enjoy breath taking views, you may want to give West Ashley Park a try. read more

Nice cozy park with plenty of soccer fields, baseball, and some off-path nature trails. All the way in the back has some picnic benches along with some access of views of the lovely marshland. There's also dock access for your kayaks! Quiet place to fish as well. read more

West Ashley Park is a beautiful place to walk some trails along the Church Creek basin, watch for waterfowl, fish or have a picnic. Take your dog along if you like, just don't let poop drop on the ball fields! My times here are few but enjoyed immensely, despite the fact that gators have taken dogs. (No water ball here please). read more

A beautiful, tranquil spot if you are needing a dose of "blue mind" - being near water for peace. There are floating docks you can launch kayaks from, trails, picnic tables, ample parking and a playground as well as sports fields. My first stop there and it certainly won't be my last. Next time it's a picnic lunch and a good book and take in the serenity! read more

Pretty park. Difficult to find the holes. No tee pads. The course winds it's way through a swamp. Was nervous about snakes. Bug spray required. Seriously though, every time I reached in the brush for my discs I expected a pit viper to strike my hand. read more

While it's a terrific place for ORGANIZED soccer and kids' baseball, it's lacking in basic park amenities and needs to be managed better. Seriously, the trails are unsafe. If you want to walk your dog on a summer's day, you have the option of very hot asphalt which is murder on their paws or trails that are not maintained and home to copperheads. Weeks ago, I saw a tree had fallen across the trail and it is still there. Does the City not own a chain saw? Walkers use the road because there is No path along the road and the trails are badly maintained and generally unsafe. There is a police station on Mary Ader Ave! They need to patrol the park every day. Adults play pickup baseball on the kids' field but anyone who can hit the ball harder than a 10-year-old will see a lot of over-the-fence plays. Then the outfielders have to jump the fence and go into the swampy woods to get the ball back. Nobody likes reaching into copperhead habitat to fetch the ball. read more

The park website states there is an off-leash dog run. This is not a dog run like others in the area. It's merely a small wooded area with a short trail that dead ends a few 100 feet ahead at a busy neighorhood road. Further, this dog run is NOT FENCED IN! I would never feel comfortable allowing my dog off-leash in middle of the woods, no less with a road in sight. read more

Don't go here for disc golf! The course is really crappy and not designed well! It took forever to find the first hole because there's no signage. Was a huge let down when I came to play. I wound up not playing as I didn't want to loose any discs. read more

West Ashley Park is one of my favorite parks in the Charleston area. I like the large size of this park and all of the different features that it has to offer. This is a great place to get some fresh air and peace during a busy day or even have a picnic. This park is clean and well maintained throughout. Today, a friend invited me to go running with her at West Ashley Park. Even though I'm a West Ashley resident and have been for over a year, this was only my second time visiting this park. West Ashley Park is a hidden gem for the West Ashley area. First, it's convenient to Glenn McConnell Parkway and all the neighborhoods nearby, but if you live in the neighborhoods off Hwy 61, it's also convenient to you because you can walk through a trail in the woods to it. The park has a nice playground, soccer fields, bathrooms, and lots of trails for running or biking. We went on Christmas Eve, but the bathrooms were open and clean. She's been to this park before and says it's fairly well maintained. None of the trails are really rough or technical. and we never felt unsafe there. Even being on trail, they are fairly smooth and my friend was able to easily maneuver her jogging stroller (she recently had a bab). We ran around on the trails and down Mary Ader Avenue. If you want to do a really long run, it might not be the place, but we easily got 4 miles in. read more

This park has a lot to offer to West Ashley, and although there are previous reviews that say it doesn't have this or doesn't have that, it's really just a matter of what you bring to the park. A nice trail to walk around an island near the water, several ball fields of various shapes and sizes, a couple of playgrounds for the kids, and ample water for an attempt at fishing. I will agree with previous reviews that mention visiting here in the humidity of summer. You'll have some bugs and gators to watch out for, but otherwise, this is a really fun park in the middle of West Ashley off of Glenn McConnell Parkway for us all to enjoy with no entrance fee. read more

A very nice park hidden away in West Ashley. I went geocaching here with my son this weekend and am looking forward to coming back with the rest of the family. We saw several ball fields, batting cages, a disk golf (frisbee) course, playgrounds, soccer fields, and two permanent restroom buildings. The roads are paved, the parking lots are not. There is an almost-hidden bridge at the far end of the furthest parking lot that takes you to an island with a walking trail, encircled by a nice-looking lake. Families were fishing -- and catching fish -- when we were there. I must say though, living in SC for many, many years that this place would be hell in the summer. The island and much of the surrounding wooded areas are low-lying and swampy. This means a massive amount of mosquitoes and there will be alligators. It's fresh water, it's SC. There ARE alligators. A suggestion would be to add some picnic tables. The only ones WE saw were in the furthest parking lot. That being said, I'll bring the rest of the family here for hiking the trails and enjoying the park, but not during the summer. read more

This small no admission fee park is in a nice area, but could be expanded upon. The roads are paved, parking area is not, there are 2 clean restroom buildings. It looked big online, but it is a mini-park with narrow winding paved roads...leave your bikes at home. The trail is all woodsy and the disc golf course is on a woodsy trail..so you would have to be pretty good at throwing straight or your disc will be lost among trees, marshy areas on the sides and there are snakes..I saw one on one of the two very mini square docks by the farthest parking lot. There's a couple picnic tables and couple grills, but you better get there early in the morning or it will be taken. The fishing probably is better if you are in a kayak or boat. The bank sides have limited spots and your can easily snag your hook in low overhanging tree branches. I did not see any dog park as mentioned online, I didn't see any batting cages either unless they were somewhere around the playground on the other side of the ball fields. The ball fields are busy on Saturday and I got caught in traffic heading out of the park. There's a nice pond with spray fountain..I would have liked to have seen some signs with a map guide of the park like Wannamaker Park has. If you're looking for some personal quiet space, this probably isn't the park for you. read more

This was such a nice park! We went in the middle of a Saturday afternoon to check it out. Not too crowded. There was what looked like a kid's bday party at a pavillion so the playground had a lot of kids. There were several fields (baseball and soccer) with only a few people enjoying a pick up game with friends. Further down the road, there are hiking trails and a fishing area. Be warned, there are signs about alligators! There is a second playground further down which was fairly quiet. My 5 year old enjoyed playing there. A few older boys were playing rough, but their mom attempted to control them. Not all parents do, so I was glad to see that. Great park in a great little spot! We'll definitely be back. read more
