A very well thought out park design! Very large playground area with a variety of playground equipment, including swings, tire, swing, sand area, slides, monkey bars, etc. I can imagine it would be hard to keep up with your child(ren) if there are multiple other children running around, but they would have a blast. Gahagan Park has quickly become one of my favorite places to walk. Since the beginning of the Coronavirus, I've been staying with my boyfriend in Lincolnville. I have been trying to go on a walk every day. Most days, I just walk around his neighborhood. However, I was excited when I heard the parks reopened. I made a venture to Gahagan Park the first time almost on accident. I needed somewhere to go to get signal, as I don't get good phone service in Lincolnville. So I went to Gahagan Park for the phone signal, but after my virtual appointment, I decided to walk around this park. I found a track wrapping around a football field. I headed towards this because I assumed this would be the best place for walking. I passed a few baseball fields on my way. When I got to the track and started to walk around, I noticed that part of the track veers off. I followed this path to see where it lead. It went by some more baseball fields. It also lead to some public bathrooms and a picnic area. At the end of this walking trail, there is a graveyard. It is fenced in, and I couldn't get in. This is the point where I turn around, as the park ends and the walking path turns into a road. I like coming to Gahagan Park for my daily walks. I have a friend who plays ultimate frisbee here! This is a cool, fun, and relatively safe place to hang out. I definitely recommend checking it out! read more

This park is great! Tons of structure for the kids to explore and a fence/wall around the park to make sure your kids don't wonder. Park and restrooms have always been clean and the ice cream trucks frequent so bring some cash. read more

Scene: Saturday. Or Sunday. 7am. I don't have to go to work. I could sleep until 9 (if I actually could) if my kids would let me. But no...it's 6:45. A fricken M. Wife is snoring, or faking it again. I never can get away with that. Living in downtown Summerville, what do you do? Take your kids that have already drank 4 cups of coffee to the park...and beat the crowd. You see, Gahagan is an early bird's paradise. Much like parking in New York City: in before 7, out by 10am...you won't see another person except the homeless guy in the corner. Just don't make eye contact and you're good. Let them charge their phone and have the picnic table. Except the picnic table is next to the water fountain... Filled with vintage 80's solid timber playground equipment, your kids can both cheat death and swing to their delight, all while completely enclosed within a fence (except that gate they always leave open...once again next to the water fountain...). There is a toddler side and a big kid side. Each are equally fun. Trust me, I've slid down each. I do prefer the toddler side with the dinosaur...but my kids prefer the big kids side with the pirate ship and death defying web of rope which I swear is out of Harry Potter. Just think happy thoughts and you'll get through it. Much like the Hardee's playgrounds when I was young, this is an acre plus of fun and tetanus. My kids love it, yours will too. See you on the weekend before the sun comes up. Accompany your kids to the bathroom. And the water fountain. read more

Gahagan Park on Boundary Street in Summerville is a great place to get some fresh air and run around when you need. I like that they have something for everyone with a lot of open space, athletic fields, and a playground. This park is well managed and maintained and always seems clean and taken care of. This park also works well as an event space. I have had a really good experience every time I have come here. read more

My son and I looooove this park!! New favorite spot! The whole playground is wooden so it doesn't get scorching hot in the summer. It's also pretty shady. There are restrooms right beside the playground and plenty of space to park. There's a little kid section, but my toddler had no problem playing on everything. The only negative thing I have to say is there was a good bit of garbage. Please pick up after yourself. Campground rules read more

Gahagan has some nice baseball fields and a track that anyone can access during the day for walking and running. The football field in the middle of the track was in rough shape. There is a massive wooden playground here and it is, in all honesty, my worst nightmare. The entrance is at the front but all of the tables are at the back. We have been to two birthday parties here and I spend the entire time watching my kid like a hawk since it is so packed. Imagine my horror when, at the most recent party, the birthday kid's parent suggested playing hide n seek here...what?? And then one of their kids couldn't be located for a good five minutes while they ran around panicking... Yup...so come to run the track or play ball but avoid the playground unless you can find a time when nobody else is there! read more

As busy as this park gets on the weekends it's surprising that there isn't a single review yet. There should be a slew of them already. Positive ones at that! I suppose it's up to me to start the trend. Gahagan Park is pretty awesome. Despite there being another park less than one mile from my doorstep I am willing to make the fifteen minute drive to take my son here. It pretty much blows other parks and playgrounds anywhere near it out of the water. There's only maybe one or two other playground/parks in Charleston period that even compare. There are ball fields right next to it for baseball, football, and soccer. There is even a public running track around one of the fields. The playground itself has a big wooden structure with bridges, climbing areas, a fireman's pole, slides, and all kinds of other fun things for kiddos. There are also several regular swings and tire swings. There's a two-to-five year old zone for younger kids which is great because, as I mentioned, this place can get very busy with kids of all ages. It's become somewhat of a weekend ritual for my family and I to try to make it out to Gahagan Park for a bit. It's free fun that allows my son to burn some energy in a healthy way. read more

We love the spark one of the nicest parks in the whole town always lots of kids though great place to pack a lunch bring some Waters and some sodas and hang out for the whole day..... Gahagan Park is home to a great athletic complex featuring baseball/softball fields and a football field with a jogging track around it. But more importantly (to me, at least) is that it is also home to one of the best playgrounds in the Lowcountry. It is a huge, fenced-in, wooden playground with only one way in or out. My kids love it. And it is one of the few playgrounds here that I can let my kids go play and not worry too much about them. I definitely recommend it! read more

I feel I should clarify the 3-star rating. We actually love coming to this playground but every time I end up being frazzled and nervous because of the enclosure. Unlike many playgrounds, Gahagan park is not completely enclosed within a fence, the entrance to the playground has no gate or anything and it is behind the play structure so you really can't be sure whether your kid has run off into the parking lot or who knows where. It is a constant source of anxiety for me when we go there. Especially in the summer when the park is overrun with kids. Which brings me to my second point of concern. Despite the small area for younger kids, this park isn't really the best for bringing kids under 5 or 6 unless it's in the morning during the week during the non-summer times of the year. Otherwise, you'll find yourself thrown into a sea of big kids, any number of whom are likely to not be paying heed to the little ones among them and completely bowl them over. That's enough for my concerns. This playground is an absolutely fantastic place to play. I have always loved the wooden playgrounds and this one is wonderful. It has been around for a long time so has many things you don't really see in playgrounds anymore like the rope walk. They have a good many swings and two tire swings. it also has bathrooms which are pretty decent for a public playground bathroom. The parking lot is huge because of the sports fields there so usually you aren't fighting for a spot. read more

Awesome park! My 2 year old son loves going here. The layout of the park is excellent with lots of obstacle courses. It's also a big plus that almost the entire play area is shaded. read more
