Debra's Playground is a large inclusive playground that opened in Goose Island, South Carolina in December 2022. The playground is part of Central Creek Park: a $9 million state-of-the-art project that includes a new pavilion, basketball and tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, walking trails, and a large stage for local music and performances. The playground spans 26,145-square-feet and is split into two sections: one for toddlers and one for school-aged children. The playground is named after City Councilmember Debra Green-Fletcher, a strong supporter of the City's Recreation Department and a champion of generations of young people of all abilities. There is also an inclusive splash pad, named "Splash Creek", that is conveniently located next to the playground.
My family and I visited Debra's Playground this past summer while we were visiting family in the area. My wife and I are always on the lookout for cool playgrounds for our two boys, and this one was really cool! We really liked the "Under The Sea" theme of both the playground and the adjoining splash pad, especially the Yellow Submarine! Notable features of the playground include the Super Netplex Towers, the Quantis 8.2, the Zipkrooz, the Global Motion, the We-Go-Round, the We-Go_Swing, the We-Saw, the Fishing Boat Sway Fun, the OmniSpin Spinner, the Cozy Dome, and the Oodle Swing. Our sons both had a blast! Between this playground and Park Circle Playground in nearby North Charleston, the Greater Charleston Area has no shortage of really cool, inclusive playgrounds. We'll definitely be returning on our next trip to Charleston! read more
